Chapter 352 You Overstepped Your Authority

Zhou Haomin, with messy hair and yawning constantly, arrived at the public security brigade. It was already quite late.

Last night, he switched shifts with someone around midnight and went back to sleep. He couldn't fall asleep because he kept thinking about the horse. He finally drifted off to sleep around dawn. He didn't expect to wake up so late. He didn't even have time for breakfast before rushing to work at the public security brigade.

“You’re late,” Wei Junjie said, glancing at him.

Zhou Haomin scratched his messy hair and smiled sheepishly, "I was thinking about that case last night and accidentally overslept."

After saying that, he looked around and asked, "Where's the captain? Hasn't he arrived yet?"

"Mm." Wei Junjie nodded.

Zhou Haomin frowned worriedly: "I hope nothing bad has happened?"

"Probably not? The captain is so amazing." Wei Junjie said, but he was a little unsure. After all, it was extremely rare for their captain to be so silent and disappear for two days straight.

"How about we go to Dacheng Street later and then visit the team leader's house?" Zhou Haomin suggested.

Wei Junjie thought for a moment and nodded in agreement: "Okay."

The two set off for Dacheng Street. Just as they reached the entrance, they saw that old bastard Lin Guohua arrive with Director Lin of the Revolutionary Committee.

"Zhao Bin has been absent from work without reason since yesterday afternoon and hasn't come back yet. How can a captain like him lead the public security brigade to achieve results? He can't even meet the basic needs of the people. Last night, a family on Dacheng Street was robbed. A pair of gold bracelets, passed down from their ancestors and intended as dowries for their two granddaughters, were stolen. The two elderly people in the family are going crazy and even thought about hanging themselves. He was the one who led the team on duty last night, and he didn't care at all. He was even late..." Lin Guohua grumbled to Director Lin.

Director Lin nodded repeatedly with a serious expression: "Such a thing happened? I understand. I will report this to my superiors."

Isn't this just spouting nonsense?

Zhou Haomin was furious and went over to argue with Lin Guohua. Wei Junjie saw that things were going badly and tried to stop him, but it was too late.

“That’s not right, Deputy Captain Lin,” Zhou Haomin said, walking up to Lin Guohua. “Our captain is investigating an important case, which is why he hasn’t returned to the Public Security Brigade. How can you say he’s been absent without leave? Besides, it was you, Deputy Captain Lin, who led us to investigate the case on Dacheng Street last night. With you leading the team, there’s no reason why we ordinary team members shouldn’t have to take the blame. Deputy Captain Lin, that’s not very fair of you.”

Those nearby couldn't help but whisper among themselves.

Lin Guohua got anxious, his chubby face turning bright red: "Nonsense."

"Where did I lie? Wasn't it you who took us to Dacheng Street last night?" Zhou Haomin asked.

Lin Guohua opened his mouth, wanting to deny it.

Zhou Haomin spoke first, cutting him off: "You can't deny it now. So many people on Dacheng Street saw it last night."

Lin Guohua was speechless for a moment, his fat face turning pale and then red, looking extremely ugly.

Director Lin squinted at Zhou Haomin, a sharp glint flashing in his small eyes, which were exactly the same as Lin Guohua's.

"You were the one your deputy captain Lin mentioned who was late, right?" Director Lin asked. One look at his messy hair told him he'd just gotten up.

This time, before Zhou Haomin could speak, Lin Guohua cut him off: "That's right, it's him."

“The public security brigade doesn’t want to keep someone like you who can’t serve the people diligently. Since you don’t want to do this job, you can just quit,” Director Lin said quietly.

Lin Guohua's chubby face flushed with excitement: "Director Lin is brilliant." It just so happens that his eldest sister's nephew wanted to work in the public security brigade, but there hadn't been a position yet, and here he is.

Zhou Haomin's face turned ashen.

"When did it become your Revolutionary Committee's place to interfere in the affairs of our Public Security Brigade?" A lazy voice suddenly came from outside.

Lin Guohua and Director Lin both frowned.

Zhou Haomin, however, was overjoyed. Seeing the person striding in from outside, he quickly went to greet him: "Captain?! You're finally back. Where did you go before? Why didn't you say anything? We were all worried sick."

Zhao Bin patted Zhou Haomin on the head: "I didn't say anything because I had important things to do and it wasn't convenient to reveal them. Besides, how could something happen to someone as capable as your captain? Why are you all worrying about it?"

Zhou Haomin was stunned. He hadn't expected that the reason he had made up last night was actually true, and that the captain had really gone to do something important.

He couldn't help but chuckle with delight.

With a shift in his gaze, Zhou Haomin noticed the tricolor horse that Zhao Bin was holding in his arms, and his eyes widened in surprise: "Why is there another horse?"

"Again?" Zhao Bin, sensing Zhou Haomin's implication, asked curiously, "What? Have you seen a horse like this elsewhere?"

Zhou Haomin shook his head: "I haven't seen it before, but a family on Dacheng Street was robbed yesterday. They lost a horse and a pair of gold bracelets. According to their description, the horse was about the same size as yours."

As Zhou Haomin spoke, he gestured with his hands. "Yes, I'm sure of it, it's about the same."

Zhao Bin: "..."

Zhao Bin's expression stiffened for a moment, and he asked, "The family you're talking about isn't surnamed Fu, is it?"

Zhou Haomin looked at Zhao Bin with a surprised expression: "Captain, how did you know?"

Zhao Bin expressionlessly pulled a pair of gold bracelets from his pocket.

Zhou Haomin's gaze lingered on the horse and the gold bracelet for a moment, then he couldn't help but exclaim, "Captain, where did you find all of these?"

Zhao Bin said in a serious tone, "Yesterday, I received a tip that a hideout might be where a group of habitual thieves were hiding their stolen goods, so I tried to stake it out for the night, but I didn't expect..."

"You really caught him?" Zhou Haomin looked at Zhao Bin with sparkling eyes, his smile almost impossible to hide.

Zhao Bin nodded and turned to look behind him.

Gao Mingcheng led Liu Feiyue, whose hands were tied with rope, and the other two walked over. All three of them looked ashen-faced.

The public security brigade was filled with joy, like it was Chinese New Year, except for Lin Guohua and Director Lin, who both had deathly pale faces.

"Lock them all in first." Zhao Bin winked at Zhou Haomin.

"Yes, Captain." Zhou Haomin and Wei Junjie together took Liu Feiyue and the other two into the jail.

Zhao Bin turned to look at Director Lin, expressionless, and said, "You've overstepped your authority, Director Lin."
