Hearing the clattering sounds coming from the study, Chen Wei became anxious and kept knocking on the door, asking, "What's wrong, Zhaoming? What happened? Come out and tell me."
The noise in the study stopped for a moment. Chen Wei thought Xing Zhaoming had taken her words to heart, but before she could even feel happy, she heard Xing Zhaoming shout angrily from the study: "Get out."
Chen Wei: "?!" Almost a lifetime has passed, and he has never told her to get lost.
Chen Wei's eyes welled up with tears.
Unable to get anyone to open the door, she had no choice but to call Xing Jiashu back.
Chen Wei was sobbing and couldn't explain herself clearly on the phone. When Xing Jiashu returned, he was sweating profusely.
"What happened, Mom? What happened to Dad?" Xing Jiashu asked worriedly.
Chen Wei grabbed Xing Jiashu and cried as she said to him, "Your dad has locked himself in his study and has been smashing things all afternoon. No matter how much I call him, he won't open the door. I really don't know what to do, Jiashu."
Xing Jiashu breathed a slight sigh of relief upon hearing this. It was just that some things were broken, which was a minor matter, as long as no one was hurt.
"Don't worry, I'll go ask." Xing Jiashu patted Chen Wei's arm reassuringly, then went to Xing Zhaoming's study and knocked on the door: "Dad, it's me, Jiashu."
"Bang!" Something flew over and slammed against the door, followed by Xing Zhaoming's booming voice: "Get out!"
Xing Jiashu was completely relieved. Judging by the volume of the noise, the person was definitely alright. Of course, the problem still needed to be addressed.
"Mom, do you know what Dad did and who he met before he locked himself in his study?" Xing Jiashu asked Chen Wei.
Chen Wei thought for a moment and said, "It seems that he went out to a gathering with your Uncle Liu and some of his old comrades. He went out yesterday as well, but I don't know what happened today. He came back without eating and locked himself in his study as soon as he got back."
"Something must have happened when he was having a gathering with Uncle Liu and the others. I'll ask Uncle Liu about it." Xing Jiashu said, and then called Xing Zhaoming's old comrades-in-arms. After asking what happened, they fell silent.
"How did it go? Did you get the information?" Chen Wei asked anxiously.
Xing Jiashu nodded: "So they went to my uncle's place together. I thought my uncle's young wife had a big fight with him and they might be breaking up."
Chen Wei stomped her foot angrily and said, "I knew it was related to that persistent ghost. It's better to cut ties with him so he won't bother me all the time."
Xing Jiashu originally thought that the old man would be fine after he lost his temper, but to his surprise, three days have passed and Xing Zhaoming still hasn't gotten over his emotions.
Xing Jiashu was exhausted by the oppressive atmosphere at home and Chen Wei's constant nagging, so he had no choice but to ask Gao Hongfei: "Are you free? Let's have a drink together tonight."
“I can’t go tonight, I have to have dinner with the old man. They’re going back to Lanyuan tomorrow,” Gao Hongfei said.
Xing Jiashu was somewhat surprised and asked, "Didn't your grandfather just get discharged from the hospital? Why is he going back to Lanyuan already? Are you sure you can let him go back?"
Gao Hongfei sighed helplessly and said, "There's nothing we can do. He wanted to go back, but he insisted on going back with us. We just couldn't stop him."
"That one?" Xing Jiashu was taken aback for a moment, then quickly realized, "You mean her? It's good that she's gone. Our family hasn't been able to live a peaceful life lately because of her."
"What happened at home?" Gao Hongfei asked curiously, unaware of the situation.
Xing Jiashu told Gao Hongfei about Xing Zhaoming's visit to Gao Mingcheng that day, as well as the situation at home in the past few days: "It's almost driving me to depression."
Gao Hongfei expressed his deep sympathy: "Tomorrow, tomorrow night, come to my house, and we'll have a good drink together."
"Then it's settled," Xing Jiashu said.
Gao Hongfei was sitting in the car on his way to the hotel, with Ying Rongrong, who was dressed up, sitting next to him.
Ying Rongrong listened the whole way until Gao Hongfei hung up the phone before asking him, "Was that Jia Shu's cousin on the phone?"
Besides Xing Jiashu, no one else would come to Gao Hongfei's house to drink.
Gao Hongfei nodded: "Mm."
"Why are you suddenly asking me to drink? Is something wrong at home again?" Ying Rongrong asked.
Xing Jiashu usually only comes to Gao Hongfei for drinks when he has something on his mind; there's no need to guess.
Gao Hongfei then told Ying Rongrong what had happened.
Ying Rongrong fell silent after hearing this, as it concerned her elders and there were some things she couldn't say.
After a long while, she sighed helplessly and asked, "Is Uncle alright?"
"He's just in a bad mood. From what Jia Shu said, he's quite energetic and has good stamina. There shouldn't be any health problems for now, so we shouldn't worry too much," Gao Hongfei said.
"That's good." Ying Rongrong said, paused for a moment, and couldn't help but sigh again, saying, "Back then, when you did that, Dad beat you so badly. I never thought that Dad would repeat your mistakes one day."
Hearing Ying Rongrong mention things from the past, even though it had been a long time, Gao Hongfei's expression still involuntarily stiffened for a moment.
"Dad shouldn't," he defended his father.
Ying Rongrong, however, was still worried: "Are you sure? He's already fallen out with your uncle. You were acting foolish back then, but you weren't completely deaf to what others said. In comparison, the old man is much more stubborn. I'm really afraid he'll be hard to manage in the future."
Gao Hongfei frowned, unsure of what to say.
Because he had experienced something similar before, he always thought he would instinctively reject the woman who looked like his mother and had the same name, and who might have impure motives. But that didn't happen. He didn't know if it was because the old man trusted her and that influenced him, or if there was some other reason.
Gao Hongfei pondered for a moment and said, "I believe that she... is different from Lin Wan."
"Let's hope so," Ying Rongrong said. At this point, all she could do was try to think positively.
As they were talking, their car arrived at the entrance of Zhaohong Hotel.
Meanwhile, in the VIP room specially reserved for them at the hotel, almost everyone had arrived except for Gao Hongfei and Ying Rongrong. They were sitting in twos and threes, chatting casually, creating a lively atmosphere.
Gao Mingcheng was pulling Xing Zhaozhao along, pointing out each item to her.
“That’s the eldest brother, Gao Han, and his son, Lian Zhou, whom you’ve known for a long time.”
"That's the second sister, Gao Yue, her husband Xia Chen, and her twin daughters Xiao Yue and Fan Xing. Oh, and Fan Xing inherited your strength."
"Let's not talk about the third brother, Gao Yang, you've known him for a long time..."
"Huh? Why is one missing?"
Gao Mingcheng counted the heads and realized they didn't match. He looked at Gao Han and asked, "Xiao Han, where's your wife?"
