When Li Jian saw the person who had arrived, he smiled and said, "You're here."
"Mm." Fu Donghua nodded.
"Weren't we discovered?" Li Jian asked.
“I’ve confirmed it, he’s fast asleep,” Fu Donghua said.
Li Jian was relieved: "That's good."
Fu Donghua glanced at Professor Zhou and Professor Yang, who were huddled together trembling, and asked, "How are you?"
Li Jian shook his head regretfully: "Stubborn, can't see things clearly."
Fu Donghua pulled a dagger from his waist and toyed with it in his hand: "Then there's no other way."
Professor Zhou and Professor Yang saw it and were both startled, suddenly having a bad feeling.
They wouldn't be thinking...
Li Jian looked at Professor Zhou and advised him one last time: "Professor, you've seen it too. If you're not willing to come with us, there's only one outcome. If we can't have you, then we'll just destroy you completely. Have you thought this through? Your wife has suffered with you for so many years. Do you really want her to die with you?"
Professor Zhou's face turned deathly pale, and he looked down at Professor Yang in his arms, trembling.
With tears in his eyes, Professor Yang hugged Professor Zhou tightly: "No matter where you go, I will follow you."
Professor Zhou, tears streaming down his face, embraced Professor Yang and glared angrily at Li Jian: "You wretch, you're worse than a pig or a dog! Don't even think about making me submit!"
Li Jian shrugged helplessly: "Then there's nothing we can do."
He turned to look at Fu Donghua, a ruthless glint in his eyes: "Let's do it."
Fu Donghua nodded, tucked the dagger back into his waistband, and walked over to Professor Zhou and Professor Yang.
To silence them is necessary, but it shouldn't be too conspicuous. In the winter of Northeast China, there are plenty of ways to kill two elderly people who are not young.
Fu Donghua dragged Professor Zhou off the bed.
Professor Zhou had been ill and was not fully recovered, so he immediately started trembling all over.
"What are you doing?" Professor Yang sobbed, trying to hug Professor Zhou, but Li Jian pulled her away.
Just then, the sound of rustling footsteps came from outside.
Fu Donghua and Li Jian paused in their work, glanced at each other, and exchanged a look.
Fu Donghua then released Professor Zhou, took the dagger from his waist, and silently stood guard by the door.
It was late at night, and Xing Zhaozhao lay on the warm kang (a heated brick bed), but she couldn't fall asleep no matter how much she tossed and turned. The faces of Li Jian, Zhou Huaixi, Professor Zhou, and Professor Yang kept swirling in her mind, and a nameless unease kept swelling in her heart.
I really can't take it anymore.
She suddenly sat up on the kang (a heated brick bed).
Hao Xiuning, who was sleeping next to her, was woken up and looked over with sleepy eyes: "What's wrong, sister-in-law?"
"I have to go out for a bit." Xing Zhaozhao put on her clothes and got off the kang (a heated brick bed).
"At this hour?" Hao Xiuning turned to look out the window. It was still pitch black; it must still be the middle of the night.
“Hmm,” Xing Zhaozhao said.
"Can't we wait until dawn?" Hao Xiuning asked.
"I can't wait any longer." Xing Zhaozhao said, already walking to the door. After thinking for a moment, she turned back and instructed Hao Xiuning, "Keep an eye on the children for me."
"Mm." Hao Xiuning nodded.
Xing Zhaozhao left her home and headed straight down the mountain towards the cowshed.
It was past midnight, and the entire Xiaogaozhuang village was shrouded in darkness and silence, except for a single, lonely light shining from the direction of the cowshed at the village entrance.
Xing Zhaozhao saw it from afar and had a bad feeling. She quickly ran over.
Although the cowshed where Professor Zhou and Professor Yang lived was lit up, it was completely silent. Only a faint, almost inaudible sobbing could be heard, which seemed to be Professor Yang's.
Xing Zhaozhao immediately pushed open the door and went in: "Professor Yang?"
Before she could even see what was happening inside, a cold light shot straight toward her face.
Xing Zhaozhao instinctively reached out and grabbed it.
The sharp blade cut into her palm, causing her to gasp in pain.
Ouch, that hurts!
Fu Donghua held the dagger and fiercely stabbed straight at Xing Zhaozhao, but unexpectedly, the dagger stopped halfway through. Even though he used all his strength, he couldn't go any further.
He froze, glanced at Xing Zhaozhao blankly, and then pulled the dagger back.
Xing Zhaozhao felt so much pain that her vision blurred, and she slapped Fu Donghua hard across the face: "Do you know how much it hurts?"
Fu Donghua's face was numbed by the slaps, and he saw stars before his eyes. His ears started ringing, and he spat out a mouthful of blood with a tooth still inside.
"..." Fu Donghua was stunned for a moment, then suddenly looked up at Xing Zhaozhao, his eyes flashing with a sinister light, "You bitch, you're asking for death..."
After saying that, he brandished his dagger and lunged at Xing Zhaozhao.
Xing Zhaozhao had learned a few moves from Gao Mingcheng and possessed great strength. She managed to fight Fu Donghua, a professionally trained agent, to a standstill, and even gained the upper hand.
Unfortunately, her good fortune didn't last long. She had only learned a few moves from Gao Mingcheng, and after using them too much, Fu Donghua quickly noticed the pattern in them and took the opportunity to stab her in the waist.
Feeling a sharp pain in her waist, Xing Zhaozhao knew she was doomed and couldn't win.
Mingcheng once said, if you can't beat someone, run away.
Despite the pain, Xing Zhaozhao slapped Fu Donghua's other face until it went numb, then turned and ran outside. Once outside, she took a deep breath and shouted, "Help! Someone help! Murder!"
The sound reached the nearby cowsheds, and the first to react were the cowsheds.
Professor Yang knew that Li Jian was coming and had informed them in advance. Although they had heard some noises before, they hadn't paid any attention to them. But when they heard something was wrong, they quickly got up.
Zheng Ye had followed Fu Donghua's trail and had now reached the village entrance. He vaguely guessed Fu Donghua's goal, his expression changed, and he immediately quickened his pace to catch up.
Li Jian and Fu Donghua knew something was wrong as soon as they heard that shout.
"Go and kill her quickly, I'll deal with these two," Li Jian said to Fu Donghua with a serious expression.
Fu Donghua spat out a tooth, gave a vicious reply, and chased after him.
Xing Zhaozhao was running desperately towards her home on the mountain. Even though she was covering her waist wound, blood was still gushing out. She didn't know if it was because of excessive blood loss, but she still forced herself to get home, locked the door, and only then did she breathe a sigh of relief.
"Thump." Fu Donghua caught up and kicked the door hard.
Xing Zhaozhao was startled, but luckily the door was sturdy enough that she was unharmed.
Hearing the noise, Hao Xiuning came out: "What's wrong, sister-in-law?"
Xing Zhaozhao was startled and looked at Hao Xiuning. Before she could say anything, she heard a chilling voice from above the wall say, "You think you can escape?"
Xing Zhaozhao looked up sharply and realized that Fu Donghua, unable to kick the door open, had climbed onto the wall instead.
She immediately looked at Hao Xiuning, whose face had turned pale with fright, and shouted, "Go back, lock the door, and whatever you do, don't come out."
"What about you, sister-in-law?" Hao Xiuning looked at Xing Zhaozhao, both anxious and afraid.
"It's too late, don't worry about me." After saying that, Xing Zhaozhao ran straight to the backyard.
Hao Xiuning didn't dare to delay and quickly locked the door.
"Bang!" A gunshot suddenly rang out from afar.
Fu Donghua's heart skipped a beat. He knew things were going badly and he couldn't delay any longer. He immediately chased after Xing Zhaozhao to the backyard.
Xing Zhaozhao staggered to the cellar, but suddenly her legs gave way and she collapsed.
Footsteps grew closer behind me.
She struggled to her feet and groped her way toward the door.
If she hides there, he won't be able to find her.
I touched the doorknob.
She opened the door, and suddenly everything went black before her eyes; she fell headfirst to the ground.
A pair of strong arms reached out and caught her.
