The next day, Xing Zhaozhao went to the hospital again to see Gao Mingcheng.
Two burly caregivers stood guard like door gods in front of Gao Mingcheng's ward.
"Please leave. Chairman Gao instructed that if you dare to use violence, call the police immediately, and you will be responsible for the consequences," the caregiver warned Xing Zhaozhao.
Xing Zhaozhao: "..."
That wretched child.
Not wanting to be taken to the police station, Xing Zhaozhao reluctantly left, turning back to look at herself every step of the way.
Just as I reached the hospital entrance, I saw Gao Lianzhou carrying a schoolbag in one hand as she came in from outside.
Xing Zhaozhao's eyes lit up, and she immediately went to greet him: "Lianzhou, have you come to see your great-grandfather?"
When Gao Lianzhou saw Xing Zhaozhao, her face fell. She slung her schoolbag over her shoulder and walked straight past her, saying, "Go away. I don't want to see you. You've disappointed me too much."
Xing Zhaozhao followed closely: "Why? Is it because of my relationship with your great-grandfather?"
Gao Lianzhou suddenly stopped, her face flushed with anger, glaring at her: "How dare you say that? I treat you like an older sister, and you actually want to be my great-grandmother." That's three generations above her!
Xing Zhaozhao laughed and said, "It's not that I want to be your great-grandmother, I am your great-grandmother."
"You still dare to talk!" Gao Lianzhou stomped her feet in anger.
"Tell me honestly, is your purpose in approaching me just for my great-grandfather?" he demanded angrily.
Xing Zhaozhao was even more amused; her little brain was quite clever.
She couldn't help but raise her hand to touch Gao Lianzhou's head, but Gao Lianzhou turned her head away.
"Don't laugh, I'm being serious." Gao Lianzhou looked at Xing Zhaozhao with a serious expression.
Xing Zhaozhao stopped smiling, looked at him seriously, and shook her head: "No, when I met you, I didn't know your great-grandfather, and when I met your great-grandfather, I didn't know you were his great-grandson."
Gao Lianzhou stared at her for a moment, and only after confirming that she was not lying did his expression soften slightly.
"What are you doing here? Do you want to see my great-grandfather?" Gao Lianzhou asked. "Don't even think about it. My grandfather won't let you have a chance to see my great-grandfather. He sent a caregiver to guard the ward door. If you dare to make a move, they will call the police immediately."
“I know, I just came down from up there,” Xing Zhaozhao said.
"Then why aren't you leaving? Why are you blocking my way?" Gao Lianzhou asked.
Xing Zhaozhao looked at him with a smile, without saying a word.
Gao Lianzhou was just a little naive, not really stupid. She quickly realized what was going on and her expression immediately changed: "Don't even think about it. I will absolutely not help you."
Xing Zhaozhao held up two fingers: "I saved you twice, now it's your turn to repay me."
Gao Lianzhou's face fell, and she said reluctantly, "Can't we get a different reward?"
"No." Xing Zhaozhao shook her head firmly. "I only want this."
"Please, Lianzhou, I just want to see how he is now," Xing Zhaozhao pleaded, looking at Gao Lianzhou.
This was the first time Gao Lianzhou had ever seen his idolized fairy sister with such an expression. His heart softened, and he nodded in agreement: "Then... okay."
Xing Zhaozhao hugged Gao Lianzhou tightly with joy: "Thank you, Lianzhou."
Gao Lianzhou's cheeks flushed slightly.
Gao Lianzhou stood in front of the two caregivers with a straight face and a cool and aloof demeanor. Heaven knows, he was almost dying of nervousness inside.
"Young Master, are you here to see the old general?" the caregiver asked, then stepped aside to let him pass.
"Hmm." Gao Lianzhou nodded coolly and was about to open the door to go in when she suddenly seemed to remember something and turned to ask them, "When I came here just now, I saw that woman at the hospital entrance. She was here?"
"Yes, young master," the two caregivers nodded in unison.
"You didn't let her in, did you?" Gao Lianzhou asked.
The two caregivers shook their heads again: "No. We will never neglect anything Chairman Gao instructs us to do."
"That's good." After Gao Lianzhou finished speaking, she was about to push the door open and go in again, but she stopped again.
“Since she’s already come and left, she probably won’t be coming again today. You don’t need to stay here anymore, go back and rest,” Gao Lianzhou said.
The two caregivers exchanged a glance, seemingly somewhat tempted: "But what about Chairman Gao..."
Gao Lianzhou waved his hand dismissively and said, "Grandpa won't mind such a small matter."
The two caregivers were still somewhat hesitant.
Gao Lianzhou said impatiently, "Anyway, I've already made my point clear. Whether you like it or not is up to you."
Seeing that Gao Lianzhou had said so, the two caregivers showed joy on their faces: "Then thank you, young master."
"Alright, let's go." Gao Lianzhou dismissed them directly.
The two caregivers then left together.
Once she was sure the two caregivers had gone far away, Gao Lianzhou turned to look at Xing Zhaozhao, who was hiding in the stairwell not far away, and waved to her.
Xing Zhaozhao immediately ran over and slipped into the ward.
Gao Lianzhou followed closely behind, looked around cautiously, and quickly closed the ward door.
Xing Zhaozhao walked to the bedside and looked at Gao Mingcheng, who was lying silently on the bed. Her eyes quickly welled up with tears.
She sat down by the bed, held Gao Mingcheng's cold hand tightly in her palm, and said in a hoarse voice, "I've come to see you, Mingcheng. Can you open your eyes and look at me?"
Gao Mingcheng lay there quietly, without making a sound, except for a barely perceptible tremor of his eyelids.
"I'm sorry, I couldn't bring the photos of Dafei, Xiaoyumao, and Xiaohongling that you wanted," Xing Zhaozhao continued. "I did take the photos, but Xiaoyumao played with her phone until it ran out of battery. Thinking it was broken and afraid of getting scolded, she stuffed it into the stove hole. By the time I found out, it was too late; it was all ruined by the heat. Now I can't contact you anymore and can only wait and wait, but no one comes..."
As Xing Zhaozhao spoke, she couldn't help but sob, "When we get back, I'm going to give him another beating. He's too naughty and causes too much trouble. I don't know who he takes after, but he's definitely not like me. Aunt Hao says he's like you. You were just as naughty when you were little. Well, he's your son after all..."
Gao Lianzhou, listening nearby, couldn't help but shrink his pupils. He seemed to have heard something extraordinary.
