The two policemen chased after them for a while before finally returning, and there were still two of them.
"We couldn't catch them, we don't know where they've gone." Both of them looked rather serious.
During their investigation of the human trafficking case, they sensed that Chen Dachuan was no ordinary person.
He and Lin Wan moved around to many places, mostly in villages and towns around Lanyuan Town and Qingxi Town. However, in every place they stayed, there were cases of young girls going missing.
Some of them supposedly married and went to the city to enjoy a better life, while others supposedly ran away with someone. In any case, without exception, they never returned home. They used to think their parents' families were poor and didn't want to come back. Many family members would curse them a few times, but no one took it seriously.
Almost all of these missing girls had been in contact with Lin Wan and had been introduced to potential partners by her.
But if all these things were pinned on Lin Wan, it would be too unreasonable for a husband to accompany her everywhere and yet know nothing about what she did. Unfortunately, there was no evidence to be found, and Chen Dachuan was stubborn. We tried every means available and even the least available, but we couldn't get him to talk.
Just then, Chen Hao arrived and inquired about Chen Dachuan's situation.
Chen Dachuan's case this time is quite significant, and Chen Hao is naturally unwilling to get involved and get himself tainted. He'd love to get rid of this burden who's always sucking their blood all at once.
The police investigating wanted to take this opportunity to find incriminating evidence against Chen Dachuan, and it would be even better if they could also lure out a few accomplices who had not yet shown their faces. So they proposed to cooperate with Chen Hao.
Chen Hao couldn't have been happier and agreed without a second thought.
Since Chen Dachuan was released from prison, there had been people lurking around him, and no one expected that something would go wrong at this time.
Chen Hao and the two police officers didn't look too good.
"Did he discover us? So he deliberately changed into Comrade Chen Hao's military uniform to confuse us?" a policeman asked.
Chen Hao frowned, pondered for a moment, and shook his head: "If he really found out, he wouldn't be able to sleep at my place for one night without feeling guilty. He should have sneaked away in the middle of the night."
"Where would he go at this time?" another police officer asked.
Chen Hao thought for a moment and said, "Let's go to his house first."
Chen Dachuan didn't notice anyone following him. After leaving the guesthouse, he returned to Dacheng Street and went to the street office to find the street director.
The neighborhood director, seeing Chen Dachuan in his military uniform, didn't recognize him at first: "Excuse me, is there anything I can help you with?"
“It’s me, Director Liu,” Chen Dachuan called out.
Director Liu was stunned for a moment before he reacted and immediately became alert: "Chen Dachuan?! What do you want?"
Chen Dachuan pursed his lips: "I'm going back to my hometown in the countryside. I'm going to sell the house. Do you think anyone wants it?"
Director Liu's eyes lit up: "Really?" It just so happens that his aunt's grandson is getting married soon and they are looking for a house.
Chen Dachuan nodded. He wouldn't sell; he couldn't stand seeing them pointing and whispering about him all the time.
"When are you planning to go back?" Director Liu asked.
"In the next couple of days," Chen Dachuan said.
"Okay, I'll go ask for you right away," Director Liu readily agreed.
After leaving the neighborhood office, Chen Dachuan went home. As he passed the old principal's house, he happened to run into Old Mrs. Qin, who was on her way to Xiaogaozhuang to find Xing Zhaozhao.
The two exchanged a glance.
Grandma Qin paused for a moment, then quickly recognized Chen Dachuan. Her eyes flashed, and she instinctively shrank back. Just as she was about to close the door, a group of soldiers in green uniforms rushed in, shouting slogans...
Hearing the exclamation from Old Mrs. Qin coming from inside the door, Chen Dachuan snorted disdainfully, "Serves you right, you old hag."
After saying that, he went straight home.
Chen Xiaoxia and her younger sister Chen Xiaoqiu were sitting at the table eating breakfast, which they had made themselves. Each of them had a bowl of thin porridge and some pickled dried vegetables, and that was their meal.
Chen Dachuan walked over, picked up a bowl in each hand, and poured it into his mouth.
Chen Xiaoxia: "..."
Chen Xiaoqiu: "..."
The two sisters had tears welling up in their eyes, but dared not speak out against their anger.
After finishing his drink, Chen Dachuan casually wiped his mouth and looked at his two daughters, saying, "Pack your things. Once I bring Mom back, we'll go back to our hometown together."
The sisters' previously teary eyes immediately lit up: "Mom can come back?"
Chen Dachuan grinned, his eyes gleaming: "Yes, Mom can come back." Even if she's not exactly the same, she'll be close enough, and she'll even have a son. This is not only not a loss, but a gain.
Chen Hao and two policemen rushed to Dacheng Street. When they passed by the old principal's house, they saw a mess in the courtyard through the wide-open gate. Two elderly people with gray hair were lying on the ground in a sorry state, being insulted and spat on by several soldiers. Chen Hao's pupils shrank involuntarily.
One of the police officers' faces darkened, and he instinctively tried to rush in, but the other quickly grabbed him and dragged him away: "Don't be reckless. If you get involved with them, do you want your family to suffer as well?"
The policeman's face turned pale, and he let him drag him along without saying a word.
Chen Hao glanced at the courtyard, frowned, and quickly looked away and walked away.
The door to Chen Dachuan's house was tightly closed. Chen Hao went over and pushed it, but the door was bolted from the inside.
Could it be that Chen Dachuan really did come home?
Chen Hao exchanged a glance with the two policemen beside him, then knocked on the door.
A young girl quickly came out to answer the door: "Who is it?"
Chen Hao recognized the little girl's voice: "Xia? I'm Uncle Chen Hao, do you remember me?"
Chen Xiaoxia recognized Chen Hao's voice, came over, opened the door, and obediently called out, "Uncle Chen Hao."
"Mmm," Chen Hao responded, taking Chen Xiaoxia's hand as they walked into the house, asking, "Is your father home?"
Chen Xiaoxia shook her head: "Dad just went out."
"Just now?" Chen Hao turned to look at the two policemen behind him, exchanging a knowing glance. Chen Dachuan had indeed returned.
"Do you know where Dad went?" Chen Hao then asked.
Chen Xiaoxia nodded: "Dad went to pick Mom up and take her home."
"What?" Chen Hao was startled and turned to exchange a surprised look with the other two police officers.
The two police officers were also shocked.
Lin Wan is still locked up in the Qingxi Town Public Security Bureau's jail. How is Chen Dachuan planning to pick her up? Is he planning a prison break? Has he gone mad?
Worried that the little girl might have made a mistake, Chen Hao asked her again, "What did Daddy tell you?"
Chen Xiaoxia repeated what Chen Dachuan had told her: "Dad said that we should pack our things and wait for him to bring Mom back so we can go back to our hometown together."
Although they thought the chances of Chen Dachuan going back to break into prison were slim, they were still worried about the possibility of something going wrong. One of the police officers pondered for a moment and said, "You stay here and continue to investigate Chen Dachuan's whereabouts. I'll go back to Qingxi Town to check the situation. If he really goes back, we might be able to intercept him on the way."
Chen Hao and the other policeman exchanged glances, had no objections, and nodded in agreement.
