Chapter 218 Aftermath

Hongfei and Hongyu, who were covered by the blanket, heard the bad guy's voice gradually disappear outside and quieted down. They pricked up their ears, listened carefully, and then cautiously called out, "Mom?"

Xing Zhaozhao looked at the blanket covering the three little ones and felt relieved: "Mom's okay." As she spoke, she reached out to lift the blanket, but then stopped, turned to look at Chen Dachuan beside her, and expressionlessly pulled over another blanket to cover him before turning back to lift the blanket covering the three little ones.

"Are you alright?" Xing Zhaozhao untied Hongfei and Hongyu and carefully checked them over from head to toe. She found that apart from some bruises on their necks, they were fine, and she was finally relieved.

"Mom..." Little Hongling cried loudly and buried her head in Xing Zhaozhao's arms.

Xing Zhaozhao quickly hugged the little girl tightly, saying tenderly, "Hey, Mommy's here."

"I'm sorry, Mom, it's all my fault. I didn't close the cellar door properly, and I didn't expect him to hide inside." Hongyu sobbed as he apologized to Xing Zhaozhao.

Xing Zhaozhao reached out and pulled Hongyu into her arms as well: "It has nothing to do with Xiaoyu. If he wants to come in and harm people, he will come in no matter whether you close the cellar door or not."

With a dead body in the room, Xing Zhaozhao didn't want the three little ones to stay there any longer, so she wrapped them in blankets, picked them up, and took them to the next room.

Hongfei leaned on Xing Zhaozhao's shoulder, looking at Chen Dachuan covered by the quilt on the kang (a heated brick bed), and asked in a low voice, "Mom, is he... dead?"

The children are still young, and Xing Zhaozhao originally didn't plan to let them know these things now, but since he asked, she hesitated for a moment and still told him the truth: "Yes."

Hongfei hugged Xing Zhaozhao tightly around the neck: "If you kill someone, will Mom be arrested?"

Hongyu looked confused and didn't quite understand what his brother meant, but he did understand that his mother was going to be taken away. He quickly turned around and hugged Xing Zhaozhao's neck tightly, saying, "Mom is going to be taken away? By whom? No, I won't allow it."

Hongyu's sudden movement almost caused Xing Zhaozhao to drop the three little ones she was holding.

She gently patted Hongyu's little bottom: "No one is going to take Mommy away, brother is just kidding."

Hongyu immediately turned around and glared at her brother angrily: "Bad brother."

Hongfei: "..." Never mind, he's still young, I won't stoop to his level.

Xing Zhaozhao temporarily placed the three little ones in the next room. Before leaving, she specifically instructed Hongfei and Hongyu: "You two stay here and keep your little sister company. Mom is going next door to help Aunt Xiaolan tidy up the house. I'll come back to find you later."

The two little ones nodded in unison, "Okay."

No sooner had Xing Zhaozhao left than Hongfei got off the kang (heated brick bed).

Hongyu quickly grabbed her brother: "Brother, where are you going?"

“I’ll go help Mom,” Hongfei said. “That bad guy just broke one of our toy models in the yard, and we haven’t cleaned it up yet. It’ll be a problem if someone suddenly comes and sees it. Also, Black General got kicked by that bad guy and is injured. He’s still lying in the yard. I don’t know how badly he’s hurt. And we need to clean up the things in the cellar too…”

Upon counting, Hongfei realized there were quite a few things to deal with.

Upon hearing this, Hongyu also wanted to help: "I want to go too."

Hongfei pointed to Xiao Hongling, who was sitting next to them, staring at them with wide, bewildered eyes: "If you come with me, what will happen to your sister?"

"..." Hongyu stammered, unable to speak.

"Right now, my younger sister is the most important person in this family. I'm entrusting you with the most important task of protecting her. Can you do it, Comrade Gao Hongyu?" Hongfei asked, looking at Hongyu seriously.

Hongyu was stunned by Hongfei calling him "comrade" and immediately stood up straight on the kang (a heated brick bed). He saluted Hongfei, just like his father used to do: "I guarantee to complete the mission, Comrade Gao Hongfei."

Hongfei returned Hongyu's salute, then quickly turned and ran away.

Hongyu happily sat down in front of her younger sister and started playing with her.

After Xing Zhaozhao saw the three little ones off, she returned to her original room. Fu Lan immediately came to greet her. Although she had not fully recovered from the shock, her face was pale and her body was still trembling involuntarily, but she still looked at Xing Zhaozhao firmly and said, "Sister Xing, I killed Chen Dachuan. When the police come looking for me, don't worry about it. Just let them come and arrest me."

Xing Zhaozhao glared at her: "What are you talking about? I was the one who killed him."

Fu Lan said anxiously, "I killed him. I stabbed him to death with a pair of scissors."

"I strangled him to death. What's so great about that? Don't try to take the blame for yourself," Xing Zhaozhao said.

“I’m not taking responsibility for nothing. I’m telling the truth. Sister Xing, even if you don’t think about yourself, what will happen to your three children if you get arrested?” Fu Lan asked anxiously.

Xing Zhaozhao pressed down on Fu Lan's shoulder, looked at her seriously, and said, "Don't worry, no one will be arrested."

Fu Lan was taken aback: "What do you mean?"

Xing Zhaozhao walked to the edge of the kang (a heated brick bed), wrapped Chen Dachuan tightly in a quilt, carried him on her shoulder, looked at Fu Lan, and said, "I'll go to the woods to deal with him. You take care of the house."
