Chapter 104 Incident in the West Hall

Song Xibai shook her head.

"Your body will change after you get pregnant, that's nothing to worry about, the weather will be getting warmer soon anyway."

The Crown Prince still frowned: "I'll take you out of the palace tomorrow to see your father!"

The situation regarding Song Xibai is still unclear, and given the uncertainty within the Imperial Medical Academy, the Crown Prince is truly uneasy.

Song Xibai glared at him.

"No need. My father's temperament is such that he'd probably make a mountain out of a molehill. Besides, what about Dingxiang and me? Doesn't His Highness trust our medical skills?"

The prince thought to himself, "You two are both young girls and have no experience."

But he didn't say it aloud.

After a moment's thought, the crown prince changed his reason.

"It just so happens that the imperial physician is going to take Rou Rou's pulse tomorrow. I'll tell the head physician to ask your father to come over and check on you. That should be alright, right?"

Song Xibai yawned, nodded, and snuggled closer to him.

"I will obey Your Highness."

Her feet warmed up, and she felt sleepy. Not long after she finished speaking, she fell into a deep sleep.

The prince gently embraced her, placed a tender kiss on her forehead, and then closed his eyes.

Unexpectedly, just as dawn broke the next day, Song Xibai was awakened by a scream.

The clamor and shouts awakened everyone in the Eastern Palace.

Song Xibai threw off the covers, sat up, rubbed her eyes, and looked out the window.

"What happened?"

Just as the question was asked, Granny Fangqi hurried in.

"Master is awake?"

Granny Fangqi dressed Song Xibai before speaking in a low voice.

"Something happened over at the west side hall."

Song Xibai was startled, her drowsiness vanished, and her eyes widened suddenly.

"What happened? Everything was fine, how did this happen?"

Granny Fangqi shook her head: "This old servant hasn't gone to inquire yet, so I don't know for the time being. It was a palace maid over there who went in to help Consort Rou get up, and she suddenly screamed as soon as she entered. This old servant just glanced at her, and the Crown Princess has already sent someone over to check on her."

As she spoke, she pushed Song Xibai to sit down in front of the dressing table and asked softly, "What hairstyle would you like, Master?"

Song Xibai was too preoccupied to comb her hair at that moment. She grabbed Fangqi's hand and said.

"Never mind me, Granny, you should go and see her right away."

Granny Fangqi was actually quite worried.

She was unaware of the Crown Prince and Song Xibai's scheme, so she naturally assumed that the child in Consort Rou's womb belonged to the Crown Prince. However, Granny Fangqi could also tell that the Crown Prince didn't have any special feelings for Consort Rou, so he hadn't paid much attention to the West Side Palace.

Now that Song Xibai had spoken, Granny Fangqi no longer refused. She curtsied and hurried to the west side hall to inquire.

Song Xibai called Wei Hong in to help her comb her hair.

But when Wei Hong entered the room, Song Xibai noticed that her expression was a little strange.

"What's wrong?"

Wei Hong forced a smile: "I'm fine, I'm just a little worried."

"Oh, I'm worried too! I wonder what's going on... Has anyone gone to inform His Highness?"

"The Crown Princess should send someone to inform her."

Song Xibai nodded and stopped asking questions. She quickly tied her hair into a simple bun, inserted two hairpins to secure it, and after a quick wash, hurriedly went to the main hall.

Inside the central hall, the Crown Princess had clearly just gotten up, and looked exhausted.

Seeing that Song Xibai was the first to arrive, the Crown Princess had no intention of testing her and simply waved her hand.

"You're here? Please sit down!"

"Your Majesty, is everything alright with Consort Rou in the West Palace?"

Song Xibai asked with concern.

The Crown Princess rubbed her temples and sighed.

"Someone tampered with her food."

Song Xibai was suddenly shocked: "Who is so bold as to poison the Crown Prince's Palace?!"

This really surprised her.

It's worth noting that in the few months Song Xibai had been in the Eastern Palace, she had never encountered such a direct case of poisoning. The most serious incident was merely Zhu Qianqian tricking the Crown Prince into drinking a love potion.

The small kitchen is strictly managed; any unusual ingredients will never be served to the masters.

The Crown Princess clearly realized the importance of this matter, which is why she looked exhausted.

“I have ordered that the maids and nannies around her be placed under guard. This could not have happened in the small kitchen; it must have been done by someone close to her.”

Song Xibai nodded in agreement: "Is Rou Liangyuan alright?"

At this point, a strange glint flashed in the Crown Princess's eyes.

"She's fine, and she didn't eat any of those things."

Song Xibai was greatly surprised: "Then why did the palace maid shout that something had happened to her?"

The Crown Princess glanced at Song Xibai: "When the palace maid entered the room, she saw a bunch of dead rats on the floor and was so frightened that she started screaming without thinking."

"A dead rat?"

Song Xibai was stunned for a moment.

It's the west side hall, with many people coming and going every day, and it's cleaned morning and night, so how could there be rats?

The Crown Princess also found the matter strange, but upon closer examination, there was no apparent reason for it.

The two fell silent until the others from the back hall arrived one after another, and the atmosphere became lively again.

Du Chenghui shuffled over to Song Xibai and asked a few questions in a low voice.

These days, Song Xibai and the Crown Prince are putting on an act, keeping herself locked in her room. Every time Du Chenghui comes over, he can't get in, and he's always very worried.

Song Xibai only said that she had been in a bad mood a few days ago. Du Chenghui sighed, grabbed Song Xibai's hand, and comforted her instead.

"Why should you get angry with His Highness, sister? His Highness is His Highness after all. If you get angry with him, it will only give others an opportunity to take advantage of you. It won't do you any good!"

She was truly sincere when she spoke, and Song Xibai smiled, patted her hand reassuringly, and changed the subject.

"I understand, it won't happen again. By the way, have you seen Yoshihime privately these past few days?"

Du Chenghui frowned slightly and pursed his lips.

"I have met her, but this Lady Rouliang is not easy to get along with. When I greet her, she ignores me."

Song Xibai blinked: "Oh? When she paid her respects earlier, she seemed quite docile!"

Du Chenghui gave a soft snort.

"Sister, don't be fooled by her appearance. She may look gentle, but her temperament is anything but. You probably don't know, sister, but before she entered Prince Hui's mansion, she was a courtesan!"

Although Du Chenghui herself came from a humble background, she considered herself a respectable woman and looked down on Rou Liangyuan.

Upon hearing this, Song Xibai couldn't help but look outside.

Even the good-natured Du Chenghui couldn't stand her. Was this gentle girl doing it on purpose?

Song Xibai had never had any contact with Rou Rou in private. He only knew that Rou Rou was originally a member of the secret guards. She had left the secret guards for three years due to personal matters. Because of this incident, the Crown Prince could not find a more suitable person for the time being, so he summoned her back.

I wonder if this gentle girl has ulterior motives?
