The midwife was experienced and taught Song Xibai how to breathe to relieve the pain. She also massaged her belly from time to time to adjust the baby's position.
Generally, if labor starts early, the baby isn't necessarily head-down, requiring a skilled midwife to adjust the baby's position. However, Song Xibai had twins, leaving even less space, making it truly difficult for ordinary midwives to manage.
Fortunately, the midwife was quite skilled. After working for most of the day and staying up all night, she finally managed to turn the baby's position.
At first, Song Xibai had the leisure to chat with the midwife and discuss delivery techniques! But as time went on, the pain became more and more frequent, and she held her breath, not daring to shout loudly. In the end, she didn't even want to speak anymore.
Giving birth naturally is so exhausting!
Song Xibai really wished he could go back to the modern era and just have the baby delivered by cesarean section!
But it's just a thought; it's impossible to actually do it!
In her daze, she heard the midwife's voice again.
"Madam, is everything ready?"
How can a midwife have so much energy after staying up all night?
The thought popped into Song Xibai's mind, and then, in the next moment, it was overwhelmed by endless pain.
You two, if you're going to come out, then come out now!
Song Xibai was on the verge of a breakdown, wishing she could just grab a knife and cut open her stomach!
Perhaps her emotions affected the child, for suddenly the midwife exclaimed in surprise.
"I can see the end! Madam, hurry! Give it your all!"
Song Xibai's spirits lifted, he took a breath, and suddenly exerted force...
"They're out! They're out!"
Dingxiang exclaimed with delight, took the wailing baby, and asked the midwife to cut the umbilical cord.
Song Xibai's vision went black for a moment, and he spread his hands, almost falling asleep.
"No, there's one more! Madam, this is the last time!"
The midwife's voice echoed in her ears.
"No, I'm out of energy."
Song Xibai felt that he couldn't open his eyelids, and he couldn't move his fingers. He really couldn't muster any strength at all.
"I'll do it!"
Dingxiang suddenly pushed the midwife aside, pulled out a silver needle, and quickly pricked Song Xibai several times.
He then took out a piece of ginseng from his small bag, cut off a slice, and put it into Song Xibai's mouth.
"Holding it in your mouth."
The silver needles quickly brought out the medicinal properties of the ginseng.
Song Xibai blinked, bit down on the ginseng slice with her teeth, and gathered all her strength once again.
"ah!!!"
With a scream, the second child was finally born safely.
Song Xibai felt as if all her strength had been drained away.
But she still struggled to open her eyes, wanting to see the two children.
The midwife deftly prepared the first child, brought her to her side, and then took the second child from Dingxiang's arms.
Song Xibai suddenly felt something was wrong.
Why isn't he crying?
She looked up at the midwife.
The midwife's expression showed a hint of panic.
The baby in her hand was a boy, but he was a third smaller than the girl in front of him. He was thin and small, with sparse hair on his head, and his eyes were closed, as if he might die at any moment.
She quickly grabbed the child's feet and gently patted the little bottom twice.
But the child still didn't respond.
The midwife gritted her teeth and increased her pressure.
The child moved his feet, but couldn't cry out.
Song Xibai felt her heart clenching, as if a large chunk of her heart had been ripped out and twisted into a ball.
Tears welled up uncontrollably, overflowing from my eyes and streaming down my face.
"Ding, Dingxiang, bring it here, let me see it."
She said those words in a trembling voice.
Dingxiang hurriedly took the child and handed him to Song Xibai.
Song Xibai touched the child's nose and mouth with trembling hands, but could barely feel his breathing.
"I raised you with great difficulty, endured so much for so long, and risked my life to bring you into this world. You can't just leave me like this!"
Song Xibai murmured, then her eyes hardened. She wrapped her arms around his chest, extended her thumb, and pressed it gently down on the child's heart.
One after another.
Tears streamed down her face, their salty taste mingling with the bitterness of ginseng slices, much like Song Xibai's indescribable mood at that moment.
After what seemed like an eternity, the baby in my arms finally moved!
He waved his little arms and suddenly grabbed Song Xibai's fingers.
At that moment, as if some mysterious force was flowing between mother and child, the little one suddenly opened his mouth and cried.
His cries were so soft, barely louder than those of a newborn kitten.
She seemed to still feel wronged.
But at least I managed to cry.
Song Xibai felt a sudden release and almost fell over.
Dingxiang grabbed the child with one hand and steadied her back with the other.
"Sleep soundly! I'll take care of the baby!"
Song Xibai smiled with relief, closed her eyes, and fell into a deep sleep.
Dingxiang looked at the tiny baby in her arms, then at the one lying next to Song Xibai, and sighed inwardly.
Why don't we just turn it around?
I knew beforehand that I was pregnant with two boys, one strong and one weak. I originally thought that if I had two sons or two daughters, it would be fine. Even if the weaker one couldn't be raised, I wouldn't be too heartbroken or have too much of an impact.
But ironically, the healthy one was a girl, and the frail one was a boy...
The midwife dared not speak.
This baby boy is so small and weak, I don't know if we can even raise him. If we can't, wouldn't we be ruining our reputation?
Both were preoccupied and remained silent. One was busy cleaning up the mess, while the other was checking Song Xibai's pulse.
