The old lady didn't feel unwelcome at all; instead, she mysteriously came over to share her experience with Song Xibai.
"Don't give your child a name that's too auspicious. Ordinary families like ours can't handle that. It's better to give them a humble name so they're easier to raise. All five of my children survived!"
Song Xibai took the opportunity to ask about the names of her children, and was then told: Big Head, Second Dog, Third Little Boy, Fourth Girl, Egg...
Song Xibai imagined her own child being called that in the future and almost burst out laughing.
Even if she agrees, the people around her would never agree.
Can you imagine princes and princesses being called "Big Girl" or "Second Dog" in the future?
The lowest name Song Xibai could imagine for a prince was Zhinu.
She thanked the old woman for her kindness and said that the child's father had already decided on a name.
The old woman didn't try to persuade her anymore, but suddenly blinked her eyes and leaned closer to whisper something.
“I’ve seen an unfamiliar man in your yard these past two days.”
Song Xibai felt a chill run down her spine and became extremely vigilant.
As expected, the Crown Prince's frequent visits made it impossible to escape the attention of these people.
What should we do now?
Subdue them and lock them up?
Or should we try another method...?
Song Xibai narrowed her eyes.
The old woman was oblivious, continuing to say to herself, "That man, he's got his eye on you, hasn't he?"
Song Xibai was taken aback.
Seeing that she didn't speak, the old woman thought she was embarrassed, sighed, and slapped her thigh.
"Even though you had children with your ex-husband, his whole family is gone. You don't need to stay by his side! You're still so young! Find someone who understands and cares for you, someone who can help you raise these two children. Your ex-husband should be thanking him in the afterlife!"
Song Xibai was completely stunned.
Auntie, aren't you overthinking this?
She pursed her lips and tried to explain, "No, you've misunderstood..."
He had barely started speaking when the old woman interrupted him.
"What misunderstanding? I've seen more than you've ever seen, I wouldn't be mistaken! That guy definitely has his eye on you! Didn't you see how anxious he was when you gave birth? Anyone who didn't know better would have thought you were born his child!"
Song Xibai thought to herself: It really is his child!
Unable to explain, she could only remain silent and feign shyness.
The old woman also advised her: "But men! If you get something too quickly, they won't cherish it. Don't agree to him yet, let him be anxious. I'll play matchmaker then... And let me tell you, men are always thinking about that kind of thing, so you have to keep an eye on his pants."
So, ma'am, are you still working as a matchmaker?
Seeing that the old woman was talking more and more outrageous, Song Xibai hurriedly stopped her.
"I understand, Auntie is thinking of me. I'll think it over carefully. Wei Hong, take some candy for Auntie to take back and share with the children."
The old lady beamed with joy and carried the bag of candy home.
Just then, the prince arrived and brushed past the old woman.
I always felt that the old lady next door had a strange look in her eyes...
The crown prince found it very strange and asked a question after entering the room.
Then Song Xibai suddenly burst into laughter.
I laughed so hard my stomach hurt.
Song Xibai clutched her stomach and slapped her thigh, laughing uncontrollably.
"What on earth is going on?"
The crown prince looked completely bewildered.
Song Xibai wiped her eyes: "The old lady next door wants to play matchmaker for me!"
The crown prince glared, extremely annoyed.
"What serious illness does she have?!"
Song Xibai covered her mouth and chuckled.
"She wanted to tell me that the child's biological father was me, so I could be the child's stepfather."
After saying that, he couldn't help but turn around and lie on the bed laughing.
It took the Crown Prince a while to figure out the relationship, and he was both annoyed and amused.
"She has good taste."
Song Xibai wholeheartedly agreed.
"You know what, after seeing you a few times, that old lady could tell that our relationship was unusual. That kind of insight is not something an ordinary person can have."
The crown prince, however, had other ideas on his mind.
"Speaking of which, you entered the Eastern Palace in a sedan chair back then, so it can't really be considered that you married me. If only I had met you a few years earlier."
He felt quite melancholy when he thought about what had happened back then.
The Crown Prince lived for twenty-five years and had few regrets about most of his life except for meeting Song Xibai too late.
Song Xibai, on the other hand, didn't feel anything special.
Even if the two had known each other for a long time, there was no way she could marry the Crown Prince!
Putting aside the difference in social standing, there's no way to explain the age gap alone.
The crown prince is five years older than her; he can't possibly wait until he's twenty to get married, can he?
Moreover, at fifteen years old, I was running around freely in the streets and alleys all day long, and it was impossible for me to, nor would I want to, enter a place with so many rules like the palace.
Song Xibai smiled and hugged his arm.
"I think the timing of meeting Your Highness was just right, neither too early nor too late."
As for the wedding and such.
She's a modern, progressive woman, the kind of person who cares about rituals, isn't she?
Although there are some minor regrets, I won't dwell on them too much.
Song Xibai was quite open-minded about this.
After laughing and playing for a while, the child woke up. Song Xibai fed the child a few mouthfuls and then asked the wet nurse to take the child to the next room.
Zhao Yan is very particular about who she feeds on, while Zhao Jing is less picky and only cares about milk.
However, Song Xibai's own breast milk was scarce, not enough for both children. She couldn't just feed one, so after much thought, she decided that after Zhaojing finished eating from the wet nurse, Zhaoyan would also have a couple of sips. Perhaps the presence of his older sister's scent would make him willing?
After listening intently for a while and not hearing Xiao Zhaoyan crying, Song Xibai breathed a sigh of relief.
