Feng Jia felt a chill run down her spine. Without daring to raise her head, she backed away and left.
He has quite a few capable people under his command, so it's not difficult for him to get information, especially since the Marquis of Chengen's mansion is currently a hot topic in the capital. Finding out anything there is no trouble at all.
Not long after, news that the Marquis of Chengen's mansion had two young ladies of marriageable age who were not yet engaged was sent to the Crown Prince.
The Crown Prince listened to Feng Jia's report with a furrowed brow.
He couldn't listen any longer when he heard Feng Jia say that the Chengen Marquis's mansion had specially hired two old palace maids to teach the two young ladies palace etiquette, and he interrupted him.
Feng Jia is incredibly shrewd; how could he not guess what was going on here?
However, he dared not ask and simply lowered his head to await instructions.
The crown prince frowned deeply. At first, he didn't quite believe it and wondered if his uncle had done it behind his grandfather's back. But after hearing this, how could he not believe it?
Without the grandfather's consent, the cautious aunt would never have made such a decision on her own.
He took a deep breath, paced back and forth in the corridor twice, and then said in a deep voice.
"Come with me to the Marquis of Chengen's residence."
Feng Jia responded with a "Yes" and immediately went out to call people to prepare.
The prince then went back inside.
He didn't try to hide anything and told Song Xibai directly.
“I’ll go to the Marquis of Chengen’s residence and ask my grandfather what he really means.”
Song Xibai nodded, but still a little worried, she went to the inner room and brought out a small box of pills for him to take.
The crown prince took the sniff and was immediately left speechless, not knowing whether to laugh or cry.
These were all things that Song Xibai used to make and bring to him when he was in the Eastern Palace, including hangover remedies, antidotes, insect repellents, and so on—they were quite complete.
He handed it to Feng Jia outside the door.
"I'll come back tomorrow."
Suddenly, Song Xibai grabbed his belt from behind and pulled him over. A pair of soft hands climbed up his chest, and she stood on tiptoe, breathing sweetly into his ear.
"Your Highness, please be careful."
The prince's Adam's apple bobbed, and he pulled her close by the back of her neck, fiercely pressing his lips to hers.
They lingered for a long time before finally parting ways.
How much longer?
The prince's voice was somewhat hoarse.
Song Xibai smiled gently and winked playfully.
"Your Highness, please be patient! In just one more month..."
She whispered a few words in the prince's ear.
The Crown Prince's barely suppressed agitation was almost reignited by her.
"Be good."
The prince pinched the tip of her nose.
Song Xibai covered her mouth, but her eyes sparkled with a faint smile.
The crown prince longed to take her into his inner chamber and bully her, but in the end he suppressed the thought and turned to walk out of the room.
A cool breeze instantly sobered him up considerably.
After taking two steps, the Crown Prince suddenly stopped and turned to Eunuch Feng.
"Feng Jia, is there a kind of red pill in that box?"
Eunuch Feng opened the box: "Your Highness, yes, it does. It says 'Qing Huo' (清火) on it!"
The prince reached out, took one, and swallowed it whole.
In a short while, he felt the heat in his body dissipate and his mind cleared up a bit.
Let's go!
The master and servant strode out of the courtyard.
Once outside the alley, the carriage was already waiting.
In less than a quarter of an hour, the Crown Prince arrived at the gate of the Marquis of Chengen's residence.
The gatekeeper of the Chengen Marquis's residence initially didn't pay much attention to the small and shabby carriage, but when he saw Eunuch Feng in front of it, his expression changed drastically, and he hurriedly bent over and ran over.
Upon seeing the Crown Prince, his face practically blossomed into a wide smile.
"Your Highness, what brings you here at this hour?"
"Go and inform my maternal grandfather that I have something important to discuss with him."
The Crown Prince gave the order in a calm tone.
After saying that, he stepped onto the steps, crossed the threshold, and walked towards the front hall of the Marquis's residence where guests were received.
Before he was a teenager, he often came to the Chengen Marquis's residence and was very familiar with it.
After waiting in the front hall for a quarter of an hour, the Marquis of Chengen did not arrive; instead, the Marquis of Chengen's heir, who was also his maternal uncle, came.
As soon as the Marquis of Chengen entered, he let out a hearty laugh.
"Your Highness, what brings you here? Haven't you eaten yet? I'll have a drink with your uncle."
He walked over, patted the prince on the back, and maintained the same attitude as before.
Before, the Crown Prince would have felt that his uncle was kind and didn't treat him like an outsider, but now, he felt a different kind of emotion.
The crown prince did not respond, but instead stated the purpose of his visit: "Where is my maternal grandfather? I have important matters to discuss with him."
"Father is not here; he went to the Ministry of Personnel."
The heir of the Marquis of Chengen waved his hand casually, and without saying a word, pulled the crown prince and walked towards the banquet hall.
Eunuch Feng hurriedly followed.
Before long, he pulled the crown prince aside and they began to drink.
The Crown Prince had a few drinks during a social gathering and was hesitating about how to ask the question when he heard the Heir Apparent of the Marquis of Chengen slap the table.
"Where are the other dishes? Why haven't they arrived yet? I'll go check!"
After he finished speaking, he didn't give the Crown Prince a chance to react and quickly left the banquet hall.
The crown prince watched his retreating figure, his gaze deepening.
He returned in less than two minutes, followed by two girls.
The two women, one dressed in pink and the other in blue, bore a striking resemblance, both possessing oval faces and slender figures.
Her almond-shaped eyes were slightly long with a slight upturn at the corners, and her gaze was filled with a captivating light.
If you look closely, you can see that the girl in pink is lively and pretty with bright eyes, while the girl in blue is gentle and quiet with a touch of scholarly air.
"You've rarely come over these years, and it's been many years since you've seen your family, hasn't it? Come, come, these are your two cousins. Hua'er, Shu'er, come and greet your cousin."
