Chapter 3 Disease or Poison

The Crown Prince, considering himself a magnanimous man, decided not to stoop to the level of a young woman like Song Xibai.

A rare moment of harmony occurred between the two.

This pulse diagnosis lasted a full quarter and a half minutes.

Song Xibai withdrew her hand, her brows still furrowed. The Crown Prince knew that his illness was difficult to cure.

"Is there a solution?"

The prince rubbed his wrist.

Song Xibai pursed her lips, mentally reviewing all the knowledge she had acquired in both her previous lives.

In her past life, her grandfather specialized in treating infertility, her mother was a gynecologist, and her maternal grandparents' family owned a pharmaceutical factory. It wouldn't be an exaggeration to call them a family of doctors.

Song Xibai had seen many people come to her grandfather for medical treatment since she was a child. Although her major was not this, she had seen all kinds of cases and had a lot of professional knowledge. When she said that only she could cure him, she was not bragging.

However, the Crown Prince's situation was indeed beyond her expectations.

She sat down, considered it for a moment, and decided to tell the truth.

"When did Your Highness first sense... that something was wrong?"

The prince's eyelids twitched.

Seeing his expression, Song Xibai knew he was very resistant, and before he could speak, she said something else.

"Your Highness must answer truthfully."

Having no other choice, the crown prince spoke up.

"Six months ago."

Because he had not been able to conceive, the crown prince began to suspect that there might be something wrong with him, so he consulted the imperial physician.

The imperial physician was ambiguous and didn't tell the truth, so the crown prince secretly found a doctor outside.

The doctor went on and on about kidney deficiency, aggravated yang excess, and so on. The prince didn't quite understand, but he was certain that he did have a problem.

After that, the next step was to find a way to treat the illness.

For the past six months, he had consulted many doctors, but none of them could offer a cure. So, having exhausted all other options, the Crown Prince heard of a renowned physician in the south of the city and went there incognito to seek his medical advice.

That's how he met Song Xibai.

Song Xibai took a long breath and stated her diagnosis.

"Your Highness, this is not an illness, but poisoning."

The crown prince, who had been gritting his teeth, changed his expression instantly upon hearing this and sat up abruptly.

"What did you say?! People taste my food every day, how could I be poisoned?"

"Your Highness, this poison has been present for a long time, probably planted many years ago. If the dosage of this poison is small and the toxicity is mild, ordinary doctors would not be able to detect it. But Your Highness has clearly increased the dosage several times, which is why this problem has occurred."

"Who dares to poison me?"

The crown prince was shocked; his face turned from white to black, and several names flashed through his mind.

Imperial Concubine? Second Prince? Third Prince? Empress Dowager?

His face grew increasingly grim, and in a fit of rage, he punched the bedpost.

A loud bang startled the people outside.

Feng Jia's voice came through the crack in the door.

"Your Highness, what has happened?"

The crown prince snapped out of his daze and replied in as calm a tone as possible.

"It's nothing, all of you, step back and stay at least three zhang away!"

Feng Jia quickly led everyone to retreat even further away.

It took the crown prince a long time to accept this fact.

"How can I get an antidote?"

He didn't doubt whether Song Xibai was lying to him; there was no need. Once the type of poison was determined, he only needed to consult a few more doctors. Song Xibai had no reason to lie to him about something like this.

Now he only has one problem to worry about.

Since it was poisoning, and more than once, it means that there is a problem with the people around the Crown Prince.

Now that the Crown Prince sees something wrong with everyone, this illness must be kept completely a secret.

In this way, the process of prescribing and decocting medicine must be kept secret from others.

This is very troublesome.

“This poison is not easy to cure completely. It requires daily acupuncture to detoxify, supplemented by herbal decoctions to consolidate the treatment. I’ve calculated that it will take at least three months.”

Song Xibai held up three fingers.

Three months is an optimistic estimate for her.

After all, infertility is an age-old problem that even modern medicine may not be able to cure completely.

Artificial insemination is possible in modern times, but it wasn't possible in ancient times.

Song Xibai was also unsure of the extent of the poisoning damage.

Besides, even if the poison is neutralized, it doesn't mean that she can get pregnant immediately.

Whether or not the prince can have children depends on his luck.

Of course, Song Xibai didn't say these negative things aloud.

Given the current situation, we mustn't further agitate the patient.

This patient holds the power of life and death in their hands.

The prince got out of bed and paced back and forth in the room.

"Okay! Three months it is! Just tell me what you need."

"It's best to avoid having others around when administering acupuncture, so starting today, Your Highness will need to come to my place for an hour every night. As for the herbal medicine, why don't you collect the herbs in my name, and I'll select the herbs I bring back and oversee the brewing process? That should solve all the problems."

In the short time it took, Song Xibai had already come up with a solution.

However, it's not easy to come up with a suitable illness.

Song Xibai fell into deep thought.

The crown prince had calmed down and made a decision.

There are two sides to this: the illness needs to be treated, and the person who poisoned the body also needs to be found out as soon as possible.

The room became eerily quiet; you could hear a pin drop.

The Crown Prince snapped out of his thoughts, turned his head, and saw that Song Xibai was still lost in thought, so he coughed.

"Tonight you will sleep in the bed, while I will sleep alone on the couch."

Song Xibai was stunned for a moment before she came to her senses. She glanced at the small couch by the window, then at the spacious bed, and after thinking for a while, decided to be more magnanimous.

"Your Highness, there's no need for this. Sleeping in the same bed is nothing to worry about. I believe Your Highness is a gentleman and won't do anything wrong. Besides, what would you say if the servants saw Your Highness sleeping in bed?"
