Chapter 34 The Crown Princess's Secret

Zhao's fans asked a question subconsciously.

Which hand?

"Any hand is fine."

So, Zhao Fen extended her right hand.

Dingxiang extended two fingers and pressed them on the pulse, holding her breath and concentrating carefully.

Every now and then, she would ask some questions, and Zhao Fen would blush but still answer them one by one.

Dingxiang then asked her about her usual diet, daily routine, and so on.

This pulse diagnosis was unusually long.

At that moment, a figure slipped silently into Zhao Fen's residence.

Zhao Fen and Er Qiao live together, but Er Qiao is on night duty tonight and is not in the house.

The figure landed silently, its eyes able to see in the dark like a cat's.

She searched the room for a while and soon found the inventory records of the medicine storeroom.

Then, she took a piece of paper from her pocket, pressed it onto the last page of the ledger, and gently peeled it off.

The paper is coated with a special medicine that absorbs ink, even dried ink.

After making two copies, she put the ledger back, put everything back in its place, and then left quietly.

However, Song Xibai did not sleep in the east hall.

She waited for a little over fifteen minutes before the person returned.

The sound of the window latch falling was exceptionally clear in the quiet room.

"Wei Hong?"

Song Xibai called out.

"My lord, your servant is back."

Dressed in black, Wei Hong emerged from the north wing and quickly ran to the south bedroom.

The bedroom window is large, and even a quilt can't block out the light.

But it doesn't matter, Song Xibai has a high position, so even if she lights the lamp in the middle of the night, who would dare to say anything to her?

So the candles in her room never went out; they were always lit!

Wei Hong took out the two pieces of paper from her bosom.

By the light of two candles, Song Xibai read through the words one by one.

When she saw the first page, she didn't think much of it.

"Judging from the medicinal herbs, the Crown Princess likely suffers from a cold combined with overwork..."

But when she saw the second one, her expression changed, and she stood up abruptly, almost knocking over the candle.

Fortunately, Wei Hong reacted quickly and managed to hold the candle steady.

"master?"

Song Xibai's expression was somewhat solemn.

"Does Your Highness know that the Crown Princess was poisoned?"

Wei Hong was startled: "You shouldn't know, Your Highness. What kind of poison did the Crown Princess suffer from? Was it serious?"

Song Xibai flicked the paper, a cold smile appearing on her face.

"A poison that makes people unable to have children, do you think that's serious?"

She had wondered before that the Crown Princess had been chosen so early, and that the Zhao family must have been extremely careful in her upbringing. In this feudal society where "of the three unfilial acts, the greatest is to have no offspring," a woman's ability to bear children was of utmost importance. Especially if she were to marry into the royal family, and the Crown Prince at that, there would certainly have been a premarital medical examination in the palace before the wedding to ensure that the Crown Princess was healthy before the marriage could take place.

Although it's somewhat unfair, that's just how this kind of society is.

Since there was no problem at the time, and the Crown Princess did not fall into the water or get wet in the rain after entering the Eastern Palace, how could she suddenly be diagnosed with a cold constitution and difficulty conceiving?

Clearly, the problem lies within the palace.

Now, Song Xibai knows.

The Crown Princess, like the Crown Prince, was poisoned.

It's unclear whether it was done by the same person or by different people.

At that moment, Song Xibai's sixth sense told her that it was the same person!

But who would do that?

Who has the ability to do this?

Empress Dowager?

No, if the Empress Dowager had done that, she wouldn't have sent Zhu Qianqian to the Eastern Palace.

It's even more impossible outside the palace. The Crown Princess lives deep within the Eastern Palace and rarely leaves. Even if there's something to do, she only summons her family members to the palace.

Song Xibai's head was throbbing from thinking so much that she couldn't help but rub her wildly throbbing temples.

"Where will Your Highness sleep tonight?"

"In the front hall."

"Tell him! The sooner the better." Song Xibai sighed. "The Crown Princess's infertility is caused by poisoning. The Crown Prince doesn't know, but it's obvious that the Crown Princess herself knows."

This couple had been married for eight or nine years, yet they didn't know anything about each other. Song Xibai didn't know what to say.

Are they the closest yet most distant of couples?

That's quite sad. If they can't even fully trust the person next to them in bed, who can they trust?

Wei Hong left quietly once again.

Song Xibai blew out the candle, climbed into bed, and went to sleep.

That night, however, she didn't sleep well and had many dreams.

When I woke up the next morning, I felt exhausted and could barely open my eyes.

She touched her wrist and then realized with dismay that she was sick too.

Fortunately, it wasn't serious; it was just a cold. It was probably because I stood at the entrance of the main hall for too long yesterday, and then I didn't close the window properly last night, so I caught a cold draft.

Wei Hong hadn't returned yet, so Song Xibai called Fu Liu and Ju Qing in and said directly that she wasn't feeling well, which startled the two palace maids so much that they hurriedly went to find Ding Xiang.

Dingxiang rushed over as quickly as possible, took her pulse, and calmly spoke under the worried gazes of the two palace maids.

"It's a cold, not too serious. It'll be fine in three to five days."

The two palace maids breathed a sigh of relief.

Song Xibai leaned against the headboard and instructed, "We're out of medicine, so we need to find someone to go to the Imperial Pharmacy and ask a physician to come over. The physician we had before was quite good."

Fu Liu muttered softly, "Your Highness is so favored now, you could even call in the imperial physician."

Song Xibai, however, did not think so.

She had no idea how skilled the imperial physician was. What if he could tell from her pulse that she was a virgin? Wouldn't that expose her?

Therefore, it's better to call him Little Physician.

Moreover, Song Xibai had inquired and found that the Fu family was not a family of famous doctors. Doctor Fu had no backing in the Imperial Hospital, so even if he saw something, he would not report it to his superiors.

As Fu Liu was speaking, Ju Qing spoke first.

"This servant will go and invite them."

After saying that, she ran out without waiting for Fu Liu's reaction.

"Who's going to try and take it from you? Running so fast, aren't you afraid of falling?"

Fu Liu stamped her foot and went out to fetch hot water.

Dingxiang chuckled to herself.

"This Juqing has a strong sense of crisis. She is worried that she will not be valued, so she always rushes to do the work and even tries to win over Wei Hong to speak on her behalf."

"How did you know?" Song Xibai asked curiously.

"That's what the palace maids said."

Dingxiang treated the palace maids for free. Although she couldn't cure many illnesses because she didn't have the medicine, the maids at least knew what illnesses they had and could secretly buy medicine when they had time. They no longer had to worry about being dragged away to die.

Therefore, in just a few days, Dingxiang had become the most popular person in the Eastern Palace.

“Zhao Fen’s illness is a bit complicated. It’s not just that she has irregular menstruation and liver problems, but most importantly, she has a problem with her pericardium.”

At this point, her expression hardened slightly.

"She had an abortion."

Song Xibai's expression changed.

"Recently or a few years ago?"

“I’m not sure, but it shouldn’t be recently,” Dingxiang said, then suddenly her eyes widened. “You don’t suspect it’s the Crown Prince’s child, do you?”
