Chapter 40 The Poor Crown Prince

At dinner time, Dingxiang came over to have dinner with Song Xibai.

Song Xibai couldn't help but tell him what had just happened.

Dingxiang almost spat out her mouthful of rice.

"You, cough cough cough... what can I say about you?"

Dingxiang was speechless.

Song Xibai blinked, indicating her confusion.

“What did I do wrong? I’ve been speaking to him in a very polite manner, but he’s the one who got angry for no reason.”

Dingxiang looked at Song Xibai, who had a blank expression, and realized that she was really confused. She couldn't help but raise her hand to her forehead.

"Sister! You mentioned another man in front of His Highness, a man you were once engaged to, or in other words, your ex-fiancé. Of course he'll be angry!"

"Why? What does my relationship with Qi Changfeng have to do with him?" Song Xibai asked casually.

Dingxiang clutched her chest.

"It's a good thing you didn't say that to His Highness, otherwise he would probably be so angry he'd fall ill... What's your relationship with Qi Changfeng? And what's your relationship with His Highness? Don't you think about it? He's your ex-fiancé, your two families have been on good terms for over ten years, and you and Qi Changfeng are practically childhood sweethearts. What man could accept that his woman still has contact with her ex-fiancé?!"

Song Xibai pursed her lips: "I originally wanted to say that I have nothing to do with Qi Changfeng! But he left before I could finish speaking."

Dingxiang was speechless for a long time.

She realized that it was clear the Crown Prince was jealous of Song Xibai, but this silly girl was still unaware!

Is it because she focused all her attention and talent on medicine, making her particularly slow and clueless about matters of love and sex?

Dingxiang felt she had discovered the truth.

Poor prince!

When her sister had relationship problems, Dingxiang felt it was her duty to help.

So, Dingxiang stopped eating her rice and pulled Song Xibai into the next room to whisper about it.

"Men are all the same. They seem generous most of the time, but they're actually quite petty. So you have to go along with them and appease them. And you have to explain things clearly immediately if there's any problem. Otherwise, if there's any misunderstanding, wouldn't that just give some little vixen a free ride?"

Song Xibai looked at Dingxiang, speechless: "Who told you this?"

"My mother!" Dingxiang said with great conviction, "Look at my parents, they've had such a good relationship for over twenty years, they've never even argued. Outsiders all think it's because my father has a good temper, but actually it's because my mother is so formidable!"

Dingxiang cited several common examples in an attempt to prove that her mother was a master at taming her husband.

This was completely different from what Song Xibai had heard before.

She said she couldn't understand it.

"Why should women always cater to and appease men? Shouldn't it be the other way around? Appease men? How do you even do that?"

“My mother said that men are actually children at heart and are easy to coax. Just find the right thing to say, praise them a few times, and then pretend to admire them. No matter how angry they are, they will immediately calm down.”

Song Xibai nodded, seemingly lost in thought.

"Shall I give it a try?"

Although she still didn't understand why she needed to appease the Crown Prince, Dingxiang's words sounded quite reasonable.

However, although Song Xibai made the decision, she did not see the Crown Prince the next day.

After getting up at dawn, Song Xibai had been mentally rehearsing the dialogue.

She thought about it for a whole day and finally figured it out.

What Dingxiang said is just the same principle as flattering one's superior.

Once you figure out what the other party is looking for, it's not difficult to do this!

Song Xibai cheered herself up.

She waited from dawn until it was almost dark, but the Crown Prince still hadn't appeared.

For the first time, Song Xibai felt worried and anxious.

She kept glancing towards the door, which caught the attention of the palace maids inside.

Wei Hong thought for a moment, then leaned closer and asked in a low voice.

"My lord, shall I go to the front and ask His Highness when he will return?"

Song Xibai hesitated.

"Isn't this a bit inappropriate?"

She still remembered when she first entered the Eastern Palace, Consort Zhu sent someone to stop the Crown Prince, and ended up getting caught.

Wei Hong smiled, pursing her lips.

"I won't say it's because my master wants to ask. I'll just say that I have something to discuss with Eunuch Feng myself."

Song Xibai reluctantly agreed.

Wei Hong then went out the door.

She returned after about half an hour.

When Song Xibai saw her return alone, he could not hide his disappointment.

"His Highness didn't come?"

How should I continue with my apology?

Two days had passed and the matter remained unresolved, leaving Song Xibai feeling very uneasy.

Wei Hong shook her head, patted the snow off her body, and when she saw that no one was in the house, she stepped forward and lowered her voice to speak.

"Your Highness is not in the palace; he has gone out."

Song Xibai was taken aback.

"Leaving the palace at this time?"

Wei Hong nodded: "Eunuch Feng is not here either. I only found out by asking Eunuch Liu. Because it was kept from the palace, no one knows."

Song Xibai frowned: "What's the matter that you're keeping so secret? It's snowing heavily here!"

She was a little worried.

Yesterday was supposed to be my routine acupuncture treatment, but the Crown Prince got angry and left. I wonder if this will delay his treatment...

Wei Hong originally intended to comfort Song Xibai, but unexpectedly, Song Xibai became even more worried.

With something on his mind, Song Xibai barely ate any dinner, only managing a few bites before going to bed.

Lying in bed, I tossed and turned, unable to fall asleep.

With the Lunar New Year approaching, there shouldn't be any major events requiring the Crown Prince to leave the palace.

What could possibly be wrong?

Song Xibai tossed and turned until midnight before finally drifting off to sleep.

As a result, she had only been asleep for a short while when a light footstep suddenly came and woke her up.

Song Xibai sat up abruptly and subconsciously pulled a sharpened hairpin from under her pillow.

"who?"

The footsteps stopped.

Then, a familiar voice rang out.

"It is I."

Song Xibai relaxed, blinked several times to adjust to the darkness, and then saw the figure standing outside the screen.

Turning her head again, she saw that it was still pitch black outside the window, and Song Xibai couldn't help but ask.

"Your Highness is only returning now? Why didn't you send someone to remind me? If I had accidentally hurt Your Highness, I wouldn't be able to explain myself no matter what."

The crown prince was helpless.

He had just returned to the palace when he heard Liu Ji say that Song Xibai was looking for him. He was a little worried, so he came over to check on her. Not wanting to wake her, he didn't let Wei Hong make a sound.

But to my surprise, she still woke up.

The Crown Prince rubbed his temples and told Wei Hong to come in and light the lamps.

The dim candlelight illuminated the room, and Song Xibai saw that the Crown Prince was wearing a dark-colored casual outfit, and his hair was still wet, obviously from the melting snow.

Song Xibai put on a robe, got out of bed, and quickly walked over to pull the Crown Prince to the charcoal stove.

"Going out in this snowy weather? Not caring about your wet hair? What if you get sick? What use is a doctor like me if Your Highness doesn't take care of your health?"

She quickly untied the prince's hair and then told Wei Hong to bring him a dry handkerchief and dry clothes.
