Chapter 41
"Brother, did you buy this watch especially for me? It looks so expensive."
"Um."
"Brother, why did you only bring me and not the other two brothers?"
Feng Xu frowned slightly. "Be quiet. You're not allowed to use your abilities later."
"Oh." Tong Yue obediently shut up and looked out the car window. It was already very good that Feng Xu could call it ability instead of thinking he was sick. Tong Yue's mouth and eyebrows were full of satisfaction.
Colorful lights hung on both sides of the road leading into the manor. As dusk approached, the lights shone with a dazzling light like the Milky Way, which was very beautiful. Feng Xu glanced at the child's innocent profile, but before he could feel disappointed, he was quickly attracted by the surroundings. He liked children who were pure and unworldly, and Tong Yue seemed to be just that kind of child.
"Hello, please show me your invitation."
Feng Xu's car was stopped by the Cheng family's security guards. The window rolled down and the driver showed them the invitation.
"Welcome, please come in. Have a wonderful evening with your family."
A chauffeur escorted them to the parking lot. After parking, Feng Xu and Tong Yue got out of the car, and the driver took out a generous gift from the trunk and led them to the designated registration point.
On the flower-lined street corridor, Cheng Yang, having temporarily bid farewell to his friend, came down to greet Feng Xu.
"Ah-Xu, it's been a long time."
"Congratulations on your birthday, Madam."
The Feng family was once one of the most powerful and influential families in Xinshi. President Feng founded the Magic Fishing Academy, the Nuodun Affiliated Hospital, and three food factories with a market value of over 10 billion yuan. Today, the Magic Fishing Academy has become the most famous academy in the city, Nuodun is the best hospital in Xinshi, and the food factories are exported all over the world.
Mr. Feng, however, was dejected. His three lovers died mysteriously one after another, and he brought back three illegitimate children of similar age. Mrs. Feng also narrowly escaped being murdered. The matter spread like wildfire in the industry, and Mr. Feng and Mrs. Feng disappeared as if they had vanished from the public eye. No one was seen attending such a grand occasion.
But Feng Xu is a rising star in the new city. He is making great strides in the field of biomedicine and represents new life. His father's decline does not seem to have affected his rise. Many people still have a good impression of Feng Xu. The invitation that Old Madam Cheng sent to the Feng family was addressed as "Full Blessing," but to put it bluntly, it was an invitation to Feng Xu.
After greeting him, Cheng Yang looked at the young and handsome man beside him and asked, "And who is this?"
“My younger brother, Tong Yue calls him Brother Cheng.”
"Brother Cheng."
Cheng Yang realized that this was President Feng's illegitimate son. "Hello, judging from your age, you must be a classmate of Xiao Mo and the others. I'll take you to visit them."
Tong Yue: "Classmate."
Cheng Yang laughed, "What a coincidence."
Tong Yue glanced at Feng Xu expectantly, unsure whether Feng Xu wanted him to befriend Cheng Mo and other young noblemen as a member of the Feng family.
Feng Xu nodded, and he smiled.
Unlike the sophisticated social circles of the Yu family, the Cheng family takes a more approachable route. In addition, the matriarch of the Cheng family has a wide circle of friends, and many families in Xinshi have received invitations.
Tong Yue spotted several alumni at a glance. The younger generation loves to join in the fun, having come with their elders to play.
Feng Xu usually attends events alone, so why is he with Tong Yue today?
Perhaps because the child is sensitive and cautious, he is not close to his two older brothers, but is exceptionally close to him. Feng Xu thought that if he interacted with more people, he might become more cheerful.
Feng Xu entered the banquet hall, and soon someone approached him to chat. Tong Yue followed Cheng Yang. As an illegitimate child, he naturally had few opportunities to attend high society gatherings. He looked around, but after looking around, he didn't feel happy.
In his eyes, most people here wore masks of aloofness and hypocrisy, their hearts filled with scheming. He liked Feng Xu because Feng Xu never bothered with pretense and was kind to him without any ulterior motive. He glanced around and spotted the person he wanted to see in a prominent position.
A smile appeared in Tong Yue's eyes, "Teacher!"
Cheng Yang was still puzzled. He had searched around in secluded spots but couldn't find Chi Xia and the three kids. Tong Yue raised his hand and said, "They're over there."
The two walked through the bustling banquet hall and arrived at the seat closest to the stage. Tong Yue happily called out to Chi Xia, who nodded and gestured for them to sit down.
Cheng Mo was somewhat surprised to see Tong Yue. He didn't know Tong Yue's family background and only thought of him as a quiet, unnoticed person in the class. "What brings you here?"
Tong Yue: "I came with my brother."
Cheng Mo frowned. "Who's your brother?"
Cheng Yang casually picked up a macaron from the table and threw it at Cheng Mo, saying, "Why are you asking so many questions? He's a guest, and Tong Yue is your classmate. You should treat him well."
Cheng Mo wasn't "bullying a newcomer"; he simply didn't know who Tong Yue's brother was and was just curious. When his uncle gave him a look that told him to shut up, he picked up the macaron that had fallen on his lap and stuffed it into his mouth.
Feng Xiao's rosy face scrunched up like a bun. He pointed at Chi Xia and asked Tong Yue, "You can recognize her dressed like that? Are your eyes blessed?"
How unwilling I am! I didn't recognize this person for a long time, but this kid called me "teacher" in one crisp voice.
The speaker meant no harm, but Tong Yue, who was listening, clenched his fingers and lowered his eyes slightly. He could not only see everyone clearly, but also what everyone had eaten that night.
But his brother said he was not allowed to reveal it, and his teacher also warned him that such an ability would not make him shine, but would instead frighten people, and that he should use it with caution.
Chi Xia handed a drink to Tong Yue, saying, "This is the best; I've tried it."
"What about mine?" Cheng Yang asked with a smile as he sat down next to Chi Xia, gently nudging her shoulder.
"Ouch!" Cheng Mo and Feng Xiao exclaimed with obvious disgust.
Cheng Mo: "How sour. Uncle, have some shame. If you want to put on an act, do it in front of outsiders. We all know about it."
Cheng Yang: "What do you know?"
Cheng Mo leaned closer and whispered, and Cheng Yang laughed, "You're such a clever little devil. Don't tell anyone, your grandma and my mom will be checking it out themselves later."
Cheng Mo: "Just find one, Grandma isn't stupid."
Cheng Yang: "You're just a kid, you don't understand. Ah Xiao, I heard your uncle is going to sing at the beginning of the show, so you're in charge of delivering the bouquet."
Feng Xiao's eyes lit up. "Really? My uncle is coming too! But he has so many fans, I'm afraid it won't be my turn."
Cheng Yang was chatting with the child when Chi Xia whispered to Tong Yue, "Did your brother only bring you?"
Tong Yue nodded with some pride, "They only brought me along, so my position in the family is secure."
Chi Xia clinked glasses with him, "Congratulations, brother, you're my officially recognized younger brother."
When Tong Yue noticed that Chi Xia was wearing an earphone on one side, he raised his hand to indicate his ear in confusion. Chi Xia winked at him and gently shook her head, and Tong Yue turned his gaze away.
Cheng Yang: "Where's Xiao Feng?"
Cheng Mo laughed, "Don't even mention it. Your girlfriend needed to use the restroom, and he went to give directions. When your girlfriend came back, he fell into the restroom."
Cheng Yang chuckled, grabbing a pastry from the table to tide him over. He glanced at Chi Xia and asked, "Is this even possible? Aren't you going to rescue him?"
Cheng Mo shook his head, "Don't be disgusting."
A group of people were chatting and laughing when a maid pushed a food cart over to serve fruit. She carefully placed the large fruit platter on the table with both hands and pushed it to the center.
Tong Yue was smiling, but when he saw the fruit platter, his smile vanished. He reached out and gently touched Chi Xia. Noticing his expression, Chi Xia leaned closer and whispered, "What's wrong?"
Tong Yue looked at the fruit platter, which was decorated with a variety of specially cultivated high-quality fruits. He turned his head seemingly casually and whispered in Chi Xia's ear, "There's something in there."
Chi Xia looked up at the maid. She was walking around the tables, setting out identical fruit platters. The banquet was about to begin, and the tables were almost full. This was the perfect time to tamper with the dishes.
Originally, Chi Xia was in the open while Ye Feng was in the shadows, and her chances of catching these troublemakers were not high. But when she saw Tong Yue coming over, Chi Xia thought she was in the clear.
Sure enough, Tong Yue could spot the problem at a glance.
Chi Xia quietly sent a message to Ye Feng: Control the maid who served the fruit platter.
Ye Feng replied instantly: Received.
A man in a black suit and black shirt came in, said something to the maid, and the maid followed him to push the food cart out. Soon after, someone else came in and removed the fruit platter from the table.
When they reached their table, the man smiled and said, "I'm sorry, one of the fruits has caused an allergic reaction in our guests. We'll remove it and check on it."
Cheng Yang, being the host, frowned. "An allergic reaction? What happened? Where is she? Has she been taken to the hospital?"
The man nodded. "Mr. Cheng, we've taken care of everything here. There's no need to worry."
Cheng Yang nodded, seemingly believing but still stood up. "Take me to see."
Tong Yue wanted to help, but Chi Xia shook her head to stop her. She stood up herself and said, "I'll go with you."
Cheng Mo and Feng Xiao also wanted to go, but Cheng Yang stopped them, saying, "You two keep an eye on the banquet hall. If anyone feels unwell, coordinate a solution immediately."
Cheng Mo and Feng Xiao got up, and Tong Yue followed them to inspect the banquet hall.
Feng Xiao carefully examined each guest's face. "I think my face blindness has gotten worse."
Cheng Mo: "That waiter looked unfamiliar, like he wasn't from the Cheng family. He didn't say which guest had an allergic reaction?"
Feng Xiao shook her head, confused. "I don't think so." Unsure, she then asked Tong Yue, "Did he say that?"
Tong Yue: "No."
The man led Cheng Yang and Chi Xia out of the banquet hall, across the corridor, and into a room guarded by two men. He then opened the door.
Cheng Yang strode inside, then paused, instinctively turning to protect Chi Xia behind him.
Five servants from the Cheng family were tied up inside, sitting neatly in a row on the sofa. Their mouths were gagged, their expressions were ferocious, and they were twisting and turning. Cheng Yang protected Chi Xia and retreated, looking at the man warily, "Explain."
Hearing the commotion, Ye Feng came out of the cubicle. The man bowed to Ye Feng and stood behind him.
Upon seeing Ye Feng, Cheng Yang breathed a sigh of relief and released Chi Xia. "Xiao Feng, what happened?"
Ye Feng raised his hand, and in his palm was a metal block the size of a button. Chi Xia recognized it at a glance as a thumb bomb.
Seeing that Chi Xia stood calmly behind Cheng Yang, not intending to say anything more, Ye Feng explained to Cheng Yang himself, "Uncle, there were thugs infiltrated the banquet. These are miniature bombs they put in the fruit platters. The explosive range is just enough for one table of people."
Cheng Yang stared, took a step back, then immediately stepped forward again. He took the metal block from Ye Feng's hand. "Your men have already tested it; it's undoubtedly a bomb?"
Ye Feng nodded.
Cheng Yang examined the item carefully for a few moments but couldn't find anything unusual. However, he preferred to be safe than sorry, so he pointed to the people on the sofa and asked, "Were they all involved?"
Ye Feng: "They've been poisoned with insects."
Similar to poisoning, but this insect is a mutated bio-virus that controls a person's behavior and consciousness. When Chi Xia informed the maid that there was a problem, the man who had been electrocuted half to death told the truth.
It's definitely scary. More than half of the powerful and influential people in the new city are here, and there are even many younger people, who are all their family's precious children. If something happens to the Cheng family, the consequences will be unimaginable.
"Should we stop the banquet and disperse the crowd?"
This was the first and safest, most effective method that Cheng Yang could think of.
Ye Feng shook his head. "I've already captured the leader of this operation. He confessed everything when the bombs were found in the fruit platter. There were six insect-men in total. There's one more we haven't caught yet, but the core of the operation was the explosion, which was hidden in the fruit platter. There were a total of 301 miniature bombs. All my men have been found and are in the cubicle now."
Cheng Yang patted his chest and nodded, then, remembering something, put his arm around Ye Feng's shoulder, "Thanks to you, Xiao Feng, you saved everyone, you're amazing!"
Ye Feng smiled faintly, but his eyes glanced at Chi Xia. Seeing that she was expressionless, he said, "My men are doing their best to catch the last one. The event can proceed as scheduled."
Cheng Yang: "Okay, okay, that was terrifying. I'll go out and take a look. I'll leave this to you."
Just as Cheng Yang was about to put his arm around Chi Xia's shoulder and leave, Ye Feng stopped him, "Uncle, go and see Grandma Cheng first. I'll take Teacher back to the banquet hall."
Upon being reminded, Cheng Yang immediately nodded, "Yes, yes, I'll go check on my mom."
As soon as Cheng Yang left, Ye Feng immediately said seriously, "The last insect-man's task is to release insects into a few designated attendees. The banquet cannot be stopped, otherwise, in her (his) panic, she (he) will run away recklessly and hurt more people!"
Chi Xia immediately understood, "Then the leader didn't recruit a list of designated personnel?"
Ye Feng: "He said his mission was just to drop bombs, while the person who dropped the insects was doing the mission alone; they were operating on separate lines."
Chi Xia nodded, "I understand, let's split up."
