Chapter 58

Chapter 58

Once in the car, both of them turned pale, as if it were the first time they had been tricked like this.

The car drove quite a distance, and neither of them spoke. Strangely, in the enclosed space of the car, no one spoke, and Xin Ran didn't play any music, yet no one seemed embarrassed.

Chi Xia's thoughts drifted far away. She thought about many things. Xu Yuan, whom she called Mr. Xu, gave her a lot of useful information before he died. There were three unknown groups with informants at the Demon Fishing Academy. Combining the information given by Ye Feng, at least one of these three informants was a traitor to Dawn.

If a colleague is lurking in the shadows and cannot provide specific academic qualifications or teaching experience to back them up, they are most likely hidden in the encrypted list that Xin Ran showed her before. She had carefully reviewed that list at the time, and after removing the four deceased, there were still 23 people.

Although the list was compiled by Fang Jin and had long been in Ye Feng's possession, she was quite certain that Ye Feng had not seen anything suspicious in the list. Otherwise, he would not have taken the risk of adding her, an ally of unknown identity, to investigate suspicious people in the office.

As a partner, she knew she should remind Ye Feng, but Ye Feng was too inexperienced. Although he had a keen eye and knew who could be used, he did not yet have the ability to process information and integrate resources. This was evident from the fact that he had a list in hand but did not know where to start the investigation, and Fang Jin was used in a mess.

More importantly, Ye Feng doesn't understand Dawn, and letting him act would only alert the enemy.

But it would be too risky to go alone. There were three of them, and without anyone to cover for him or act as an inside agent, he could be exposed if he wasn't careful.

Based on our interactions over this period, Xin Ran is undoubtedly the most capable ally. However, the problem now is that Xin Ran is also on that suspicious list...

After turning a corner and exiting the elevated road, the car smoothly entered the green belt of the Moon Bay upscale villa area. The afterglow of the setting sun bathed the tender green grass, and a gentle breeze blew, creating a mix of yellow and green.

Xin Ran suddenly laughed as if she had thought of something, "The Magic Fishing Academy is so interesting, what do you think, Teacher Xia?"

Chi Xia turned to Xin Ran and said, "Teacher Zhang asked me to have coffee tomorrow. Do you want to come along?"

Xin Ran glanced at Chi Xia's calm face and joked, "Could it be that he poured out the coffee himself, so you couldn't have it, and then deliberately arranged to meet again next time?"

Chi Xia shook her head slightly. "I tried. He didn't know about the missing coffee. He said he needed my help with something."

Xin Ran's smile faded. "Then let's go together and see what he's up to."

Chi Xia glanced at Xin Ran again. Although she couldn't trust everyone completely, it would be foolish not to use someone of value. Xin Ran had shown her kindness and value from the beginning, and his identity as a master thief was genuine. Why not trust him once?

Back at the villa, Xin Ran took a shower in his room upstairs. Chi Xia made a bowl of noodles for each of them. Since Xin Ran liked spicy food, Chi Xia added some pickled peppers that Xun Jiang had prepared and stored in the refrigerator.

Xin Ran came downstairs wearing a loose T-shirt and casual pants. His messy hair made him look younger, about the same age as Ye Feng and the other students. He smelled the aroma and smiled, "So virtuous. I was just thinking of ordering takeout."

"I'll provide you with as much instant noodles as you want." Chi Xia handed him chopsticks, and the two sat down at the table.

Xin Ran laughed, "I didn't starve to death because of Brother Xun Jiang. What about you?"

Chi Xia: "Because I can move my hands and feet, I can be self-sufficient."

Xin Ran laughed so hard his shoulders trembled, his dimples revealing a handsome yet youthful charm, full of the unique allure of this young man.

He is very capable; there's nothing he can't do. He has a strong sense of everyday life, is a severe germaphobe, and almost never cooks at home. He even has to cover his barbecue with a canopy. He loves to take advantage of others and is stingy, but he is also very easygoing and can get along with anyone.

Chi Xia suddenly realized that if someone like him was a traitor, then the people of Dawn would probably have been killed off by now.

The two slurped up their instant noodles when Xin Ran remembered there was some braised beef in the refrigerator. She got up, took a plate, and poured some out. "Whoever marries my brother Xun Jiang will definitely be rich. You should try his cooking."

Chi Xia picked up a piece and said, "Instead of letting outsiders benefit, why don't you serve it yourself?"

Xin Ran paused, then looked at Chi Xia's expressionless face and laughed again, tears welling up in her eyes. "Please, don't tell jokes so seriously, they're really funny."

Chi Xia smiled faintly, "You have a really low threshold for laughter."

Xin Ran got up and poured out another plate of peanuts. The two started eating peanuts again. After a while, Chi Xia got up and said, "How about we add another bottle of wine?"

Xin Ran smiled and pointed to the refrigerator, "You go this time."

Chi Xia poured drinks for the two of them and turned on the warm lights in the restaurant. The golden light shone softly, and a bowl of instant noodles paired with tens of thousands of dollars worth of vodka gave the impression of a gourmet meal.

Xin Ran chewed on a peanut. "What was the information you said you'd share with me?"

Chi Xia slurped up a mouthful of instant noodles. "On the day Bai Yu was admitted to the hospital, a man in black approached Dr. Huang from the biochemistry department, threatening him to take Tong Yue's case and demanding that he send him Tong Yue's parasite test report."

Xin Ran took a sip of her drink. "Was Tong Yue infected?"

Chi Xia thought to herself, "Let's take a gamble," and said, "Okay."

Xin Ran froze, turning to look at Chi Xia, "The larvae are inside Tong Yue?"

Chi Xia: "I took it out."

She's not a doctor, or rather, she removed something that even doctors couldn't do.

Xin Ran raised an eyebrow, remained silent for a few seconds, and quietly took a sip of her noodle soup. "Is Dr. Huang reliable? Does he also know about this?"

If we're talking about Xin Ran's best ally, even though he didn't witness the whole thing, he could hit the nail on the head with just a few words.

Chi Xia: "He was coerced. I had Ye Feng arrange for people to protect him 24 hours a day. He was also bound to a bracelet so that we can track him down if that person calls again."

Xin Ran nodded, "If the news is released that Tong Yue was not infected, then that person will most likely not contact Dr. Huang again for a while."

"Um."

Xin Ran was right again.

"Threatening Dr. Huang was to confirm that Bai Yu had successfully planted larvae in someone. Bai Yu's plan was exposed and rendered useless, so they started controlling someone else. Now you've completely disrupted their plans. I'm very curious, how did you remove the larvae? Can you tell me?"

Xin Ran tilted her head and looked at Chi Xia.

"cannot."

Xin Ran sat up straight and continued eating her noodles. "Okay."

"Beep!" The bracelet vibrated, but Chi Xia didn't look at it.

Xin Ran: "Is there any more?"

Chi Xia: "No, for the time being."

Let Ye Feng investigate Lin Keli's matter slowly; there's no rush.

The 30,000 bounty was earned by Dawn's entry-level assassin. Dawn's starting price for a job is 300,000, with the entry-level assassin taking 10%. It's unlikely that Lin Keli, born into an ordinary family, would spend 300,000 to take the life of her father who abandoned his wife and children, because it's simply not worth it.

More importantly, she did not gain any real benefit. Her mother's hospital was an ordinary municipal hospital, while she worked at the Magic Fishing Academy and naturally knew that the Nuodun Affiliated Hospital was the best hospital in the new city.

It's almost illogical that someone with money wouldn't allow their only relative to receive treatment in the best hospital. It would be more plausible that her father's openly gay partner hired someone to commit murder, since at least that person had gained control of the entire company.

This task is best left to Ye Feng for testing.

Of course, Chi Xia did not reveal any details about her identity, such as Mr. Xu, or Lin Xiang, who was on a blind date with Anna. Although these two were not at the level of Dawn traitors or informants of the Demon Fishing Academy, they were indeed members of an unknown group. Their existence was to hunt down the Dawn assassins.

Exposing them is no different from self-destruction; this is something she has to handle herself.

After finishing their instant noodles, the two divided the work of cleaning up the restaurant.

After leaving the restaurant, Xin Ran said, "Aren't you sleepy? Go to sleep."

Chi Xia: "Are you going to restore that surveillance footage?"

Xin Ran laughed, "Yes, and while we're at it, let's check if that person left any clues in the Rubik's Cube at Bai Yu's house."

Chi Xia had just gone up the stairs when she remembered something and turned back to call out to Xin Ran.

Xin Ran smiled and turned around, her eyes bright and sparkling with a clear, refreshing light. "Is there anything else?"

Looking at his bright smile, Chi Xia raised her wristband and asked, "You've been living here for so long and haven't paid any rent yet. It's 3000 a month, right?"

Xin Ran turned around to look at her and smiled, "That's right."

Chi Xia operated the bracelet and transferred some money. Xin Ran looked at the amount in her account and exclaimed, "So much! Are you planning to settle down here?"

Chi Xia: "88,000 is your reward, thank you."

Xin Ran paused for a second at the number, then smiled and said, "Thanks."

Back in her room, Chi Xia retrieved two bracelets, one on her left and one on her right. She looked at the bracelet Ye Feng had given her; the tracking expert had sent her the latest news: the owner of the abandoned warehouse had been found—it was Feng Kaizhi, the father of Feng Xu and Tong Yue, the former dean of the Demon Fishing Academy, President Feng.

Thinking about those three words, Chi Xia lay down on the bed and looked at the ceiling. The person said that the abandoned warehouse was the old site of Feng Zong's food factory a long time ago. It was then rented to three different bosses, but none of them stayed for very long. They stopped renting it out in less than a year. It had been abandoned for many years.

Just as Xin Ran said, there was nothing to be found in the abandoned warehouse. Even so, why did this tracking expert take so long to find information from so far back?

It seems necessary to find Feng Xu to understand the inside story; otherwise, it simply doesn't make sense why we went to such lengths to suppress this information.

"Phew..." Chi Xia breathed a long sigh of relief.

For an assassin, using your brain is more tiring than using your hands. It's too tiring. Chi Xia, supporting her tired head, went to take a shower. The advantage of short hair is that you don't need to blow-dry it much; it dries quickly.

She woke up at 6 a.m. the next morning, with her alarm clock still 30 minutes away. Chi Xia got up, washed up, put on her black faculty uniform, and went downstairs.

Xinran hasn't gotten up yet, looks like she stayed up very late last night. Let's give her some encouragement with breakfast. Chixia made two of the simplest sandwiches in the world: two slices of bread with a slice of ham and a piece of lettuce in between, and two glasses of milk.

6:45.

"Waterloo..." Xin Ran came down, seeing him so dejected for the first time—

Holding onto the stairs with both hands, her body slid down like avocado noodles, her hair disheveled, and her head drooping.

Chi Xia wanted to laugh, so she pulled out a chair for him and asked, "What's wrong, All-Round King?"

Xin Ran sneered and slumped onto the table. "Can you believe it? I was actually brought to my knees by a scene with characters cut from a very basic IA game!"

Chi Xia laughed, "Really?"

"Yes! The school office's surveillance video is 2K resolution. Even in the last century, it's an antique. Putting it on my computer would be like a virus. IA's removal of characters is like an old-fashioned game with no substance. Can you understand the heartache of me using modern high technology to decipher an old-fashioned computer?"

Chi Xia laughed, without any politeness or mercy, and couldn't stop laughing.

"Yes, yes, yes, have breakfast, you still have to go to class. Cheer up, you can't miss Teacher Zhang's coffee date today."
