Chapter 6

Chapter 6

New Town is the most prosperous area in the New Territories, and its affiliated hospital is the best hospital in New Town, so it ranks among the top hospitals even in the entire New Territories.

Its full name is Nuodun Affiliated Hospital. It is said to be run by a relative of President Feng, the chairman of the board of directors of Moyu Academy. Therefore, when teachers of Moyu Academy are injured or disabled, they are sent here.

Chi Xia parked her car and walked along the quiet and clean tree-lined path in the hospital towards Building 1 of the inpatient department.

After many years, I came back to the hospital and it had really changed a lot. It seemed to have expanded a lot and the facilities were more and more advanced. There were holographic signs all the way, so I didn't take any detours.

Chi Xia recalled that when she was researching the information, she learned that the hospital was busy generating revenue and building its reputation in its early years, and it would accept any kind of patient. The wards were full of patients with difficult and complicated diseases, especially those infected with mutants. However, the Norton Affiliated Hospital cured most of them, and its reputation was established in an instant.

Now they can even send their own caregivers to support the nursing home next door, and their reputation remains as good as ever.

Chi Xia's first job after getting her "marriage certificate" was a 33,000 yuan scam against an old man recuperating at the Nuodun Affiliated Hospital. The old man had a full head of white hair, wore a pair of silver-rimmed reading glasses, and had a kind and friendly smile. She followed him for a week but couldn't bring herself to do it, especially since she saw him often buying lots of candy for the injured children, which made him very popular with the kids.

She couldn't understand what deep-seated hatred this old man could have caused, forcing people to put a bounty on the black market. It seemed the bounty was 300,000, but she was a newcomer, and for the first few orders, she would only get a 10% commission, with the rest going towards the organization's training.

The three thousand was an extra amount the boss gave her to bolster her courage.

Just as she began to waver, thinking she might not be able to handle the situation, and was about to cancel the order, she used her last few coins to buy a bouquet of flowers that people were bargaining for before closing up shop. She wanted to visit the old man and express her remorse for the murderous thoughts she had had towards him.

On the way, she thought of many things to say, how to introduce herself, how to smile when she saw the old man, and tell him that she was very moved to see him buying candy for many sick children in the hospital. She also said that she was a patient herself and had come to visit him before being discharged, hoping that he could also recover and be discharged soon.

Unfortunately, the old man didn't give her that chance.

It was nearly eight o'clock in the late autumn ward. The sun had almost set, and the corridor lights were on. Chi Xia, holding several sunflowers wrapped in newspaper, walked excitedly and apologetically to the old man's single room.

But the door was closed. She raised her hand to knock but hesitated. If the old man was already resting, would it be presumptuous of her to do so?

She originally intended to put the flowers on the ground, but then thought that they might be accidentally stepped on by passersby, so she decided it would be best to hand them over to the nurses at the nurses' station so they could pass them on.

Having figured out a plan, she happily turned around, lifting her foot to leave—

"Waaah..."

Shh, don't move!

"Waaah..."

The assassin's hearing and alertness were unlike those of an ordinary person; he could hear very subtle and unusual noises. Chi Xia stopped and turned back, holding the flowers, she pushed the door but couldn't move it. She kicked the door open.

An unexpected turn of events made the 300,000 yuan reward seem reasonable, and even less.

However, her 33,000 was secured. The moment the sunflower fell to the ground, she closed and locked the door in one swift motion.

The old man frantically grabbed a fruit knife from the table, pointed it at her, and shouted angrily, "Who are you? Get out!"

Chi Xia didn't waste any words with him. She leaped over with her long legs, kicking the knife out of the old man's hand. With another sweeping kick, she slammed the old man against the headboard and pressed her foot hard on the old man's neck with the sole of her shoe, making it impossible for the old man to struggle free or make a sound.

Her long legs allowed her to control the old man while also doing other things with ease. She picked up the little girl who was being held down on the hospital bed by the old man, her hands bound and her mouth gagged, crying with her face flushed and struggling with sweat all over her body.

Chi Xia gave the girl a quick check. Apart from her swollen face, the girl was not injured anywhere else. She pulled up the girl's shorts and tights, not daring to imagine what would have happened if she hadn't come, or had left, or had arrived a moment later. The girl looked to be only five or six years old.

Chi Xia held the girl's tear-reddened face, her fingers stroking the sweat clinging to her hair. "Don't be afraid, I'll avenge you. This is the last time that disgusting old man will see the sunset. Remember, never trust kindness that comes out of nowhere again, and never talk to strangers."

The little girl nodded between sobs, and Chi Xia stroked her head. "Go on, find your mother, take a bath and get a good night's sleep."

After the girl left and the door was closed, Chi Xia looked at the old man and suddenly realized the filthy and vicious thoughts behind the candy. No wonder even at his age, when he was in the hospital, people were still after him. He deserved what he got.

I received 33,000 yuan, right here at this hospital.

Thinking this, Chi Xia had already arrived at the VIP ward that Lin Keli had messaged her about. Good heavens, a private VIP ward! Following the principle of not letting colleagues suffer any injustice other than from students, this Teacher Xin was staying in a deluxe private room. Chi Xia raised her hand, just about to knock on the door—

Through the small glass window on the door of the luxury private room, one could see a tall, slender figure standing by the window, wearing a hospital gown and eating an apple in one hand.

This is the Teacher Xin that Lin Keli mentioned, who has a crippled leg, two broken ribs, and a moderate fracture of the cervical spine?

Did I go to the wrong place? Chi Xia wanted to send another message to confirm with Lin Keli. She raised her bracelet and was about to send a message.

The person turned around. Was he seeing things? It really was Teacher Xin! That soft, clean short hair, that slightly thin but young and handsome face—there was no mistake!

He's in a wheelchair with a cast on, and he also has to wear a neck brace, right?

Chi Xia was dumbfounded. Just as he finished thinking about a series of symptoms, he saw Teacher Xin inside take two more bites of the apple, throw away most of the rest, and then pick up the detachable plaster cast and neck brace from the sofa. He walked lightly back to the hospital bed with a limited view through the glass window.

Chi Xia took two steps back lightly. Having discovered such a huge secret, she felt it would be more polite for her to take another stroll before returning.

When she returned half an hour later, she glanced at the small glass window and, seeing no healthy figure, raised her hand to knock on the door.

"Please come in."

Chi Xia composed herself, smiled, and gracefully opened the door, went inside, and then gently closed it again.

"Hello, Ms. Xin. I'm Chi Xia, the new homeroom teacher of Class 3. Lily has a family emergency, so I'll take care of you tonight."

Chi Xia speaks slowly, enunciating each word clearly in a soft voice. She stands very upright, with her hands clasped in front of her legs and her back straight.

Teacher Xin reached for something on the bedside table. Chi Xia looked up and saw a pair of square black-rimmed glasses in the middle. Teacher Xin was wearing a neck brace, which made it difficult for her to move, and she squinted slightly to indicate that her eyesight was not good.

Chi Xia has excellent eyesight, and she could clearly see that Teacher Xin was leisurely eating an apple, without wearing glasses, and that it did not affect her ability to pick up things or walk at all.

However, in order to cooperate with him, Chi Xia still helped him get his glasses and handed them to him. In order to show that he was indeed blind, Teacher Xin even touched her hand first before touching his own glasses.

"I'm sorry I touched your hand." He apologized sincerely, then put on his glasses before looking at Chi Xia. It was unclear whether he could see her more clearly or more blurry.

Chi Xia smiled and quickly waved her hand, "It's okay. Do you want some water? I'll get you some."

Watching him disguise his neck brace and plaster cast on his leg, Chi Xia asked a question.

Teacher Xin smiled and said, "Then I'll have to trouble you."

Chi Xia poured him a glass of warm water and handed it to him with both hands. Teacher Xin reached out and hissed, then turned back and pressed his abdomen. Chi Xia could tell that he was acting out rib pain. If she hadn't received professional training, she would definitely have burst out laughing.

“Um, Ms. Xin, don’t move, I…” Chi Xia looked around, “I’ll go find you a straw.”

Teacher Xin turned his head slightly to look at the bedside table. Following his instructions, Chi Xia opened the drawer, which contained everything from tableware to straws, toothpicks, and dental floss.

After drinking the water, Teacher Xin gulped it down in one go, then smiled sheepishly, "I was a little thirsty, thank you, you came just in time."

Chi Xia was amazed by his acting skills. Just imagine, if she hadn't arrived half an hour earlier and seen Teacher Xin moving freely in the ward with all four limbs intact, wouldn't his performance now be perfectly reasonable?

Unfortunately, there are no "what ifs" in this world. What you see is what you see, and what you know is what you know.

"It's very hot outside, why don't you sit down and rest for a while?" Putting aside her superb acting skills, Teacher Xin is very polite and courteous to people.

Chi Xia nodded and sat down, still looking obedient. Teacher Xin hesitated for a moment, then looked at her with a flickering gaze, "Thank you in the hallway. I'm so sorry to trouble you again now."

Chi Xia shook her head, "We're all colleagues, it's only right."

Seemingly afraid of embarrassing her, Teacher Xin tried to make conversation, "There are apples in the cabinet downstairs, provided by the hospital. Would you like some?"

The mention of apples made Chi Xia unable to contain herself. She coughed lightly, looked up, and smiled brightly, "Okay, I'll peel one for you, and we'll eat it together."

Teacher Xin kept in mind that he had broken two ribs on the right side, so he raised his left hand and pointed to his neck brace, saying, "I'm not feeling well, you eat."

Chi Xia smiled and thoughtfully peeled an apple for him, cut it into small pieces, and fed him a piece, saying, "Apples are good, eat more and you'll get better faster."

Teacher Xin watched as Chi Xia peeled an apple, making a single, clean cut without breaking the peel at all. "You're really good at peeling apples," she said.

“Yes, my mom often praises me too.” Chi Xia smiled so clearly, as if she really had a mother.

"Teacher Xin, aren't your family members here?" If you have family, there should be people visiting you and keeping you company, but Teacher Xin doesn't.

Teacher Xin nodded, "I came here alone. I don't want to tell them what I'm doing. I often get injured, and I'm afraid they won't be able to handle it."

Chi Xia nodded, "I understand."

Teacher Xin: "Does your family, your mother, live with you? Does she agree to your joining the Magic Fishery Academy?"

Chi Xia pursed her lips, looking somewhat embarrassed. "No, I was also keeping it from my family."

Teacher Xin nodded slightly. "I understand."

“Ding ding!”

Chi Xia's bracelet beeped twice. It was a message from Lin Keli, who transferred a large sum of money to her with a message saying that it was money for the Shengang Lobster that was supposed to be paid for, and that she shouldn't skimp on herself and should order whatever she wanted.

Chi Xia truthfully told Teacher Xin about Lin Keli's information. Teacher Xin smiled faintly and said, "You order, I'll just watch you eat and smell the aroma."

Chi Xia looked at his carefully disguised patient uniform and said, half-jokingly, "Forget it, you can't eat seafood like this. Let's save it for later, and the three of us can eat it together next time, Sister Lili."

Teacher Xin: "You're really a good friend."

Chi Xia glanced at the time. "I'll go get you some food. What would you like to eat?"

Teacher Xin: "No need, the special care ward has special meals, and the nurses will bring them over at the appointed time. What would you like to eat? I'll ask the nurse to bring an extra portion."

Chi Xia thought for a moment, "I'll do the same as you, to avoid trouble."

Teacher Xin was using the ward's tablet to change the special care meal to two portions.

After ordering, he handed the food to Chi Xia and placed it on the table. "Did the students in Class 3 give you any trouble today?"

Chi Xia sighed deeply, sat down by the hospital bed, held her head in her hands, and looked at the other person with a sincere expression, "I heard from Sister Lili that you've been holding on for two months. How did you manage to get through it?"

Teacher Xin seemed to have come to terms with it. He looked at the ceiling and said, "Just think of it as replacing parts of your whole body, treating yourself as a sandbag that has been tempered into steel. It's not so bad."

Chi Xia had personally witnessed the level of violence in Class 4, and she had seen firsthand how unruly those students were. Class 3 was known as Scumbag No. 2, and Class 4 was known as Scumbag No. 1, which showed that on the surface, the students in Class 4 were much more vicious than those in Class 3.

But how could this young Teacher Xin withstand it? Moreover, Chi Xia was quite certain that his injury was fake, or perhaps it was related to his talent.

Does he have a self-healing talent?

Seeing that Chi Xia was being honest, Teacher Xin quietly leaned closer and lowered her voice, "I'll tell you a secret."

"Here it is," Chi Xia nodded immediately, wearing a "you know, I know, I'll never tell" face.

"Actually, my talent is self-healing."

Sure enough, that's not surprising. As long as his injury isn't to his heart, he can recover quickly within the appropriate timeframe even without medical treatment. With the addition of technological means, the recovery will be extremely rapid.

Chi Xia pretended to widen her eyes and blinked. Teacher Xin then lowered her voice and said, "I only told you one thing. You have to keep it a secret for me. Otherwise, the academy will reduce the compensation I receive for my talent."

Chi Xia nodded. That was indeed true. But why was this Teacher Xin willing to tell her about something so important that concerned her food tickets?

Just because I came here today to be his caregiver?

Isn't this a bit too hasty?

Teacher Xin looked at her, her eyes glistening with tears, "In exchange, can you tell me one of your secrets too?"
