Chapter 70
In a noisy environment, the complex and varied noises divide people into small spaces. At this time, you will find the people who are truly close to you.
Chi Xia and Feng Xutong Yue were chatting happily. Xun Jiang had Xin Ran. Cheng Yang sat between Tong Yue and Cheng Mo. Ye Feng was flanked by Cheng Mo and Feng Xiao. Lin Keli teased Feng Xiao for wolfing down his food while turning her head to look at Anna and Lin Xiang being affectionate.
The most pitiful one was Ye Feng's bodyguard. He had no friends and nothing to talk about. He sat alone next to Lin Xiang, with a young couple flirting on one side and Xun Jiang and Xin Ran nagging on the other. He seemed to exist in a separate space.
Chi Xia sat to the side opposite, and the scene seemed familiar.
Having quickly satisfied his appetite and relaxed, the deputy captain of the Imperial Guard started chatting with Lin Xiang, who was standing next to him, because of a tattoo on Lin Xiang's wrist.
Seeing that the two had something in common, Anna didn't disturb them and quietly snuggled up to Lin Xiang, listening to their conversation.
Vice Captain: "This tattoo looks nice, very distinctive. What is it?"
Lin Xiang touched his uneven wrist. "I don't know what it is. I got it tattooed on me to cover up my injury. Over time, I got used to having this weird thing on my wrist."
The vice-captain pulled Lin Xiang's hand over and examined him closely. "I think it looks like a crow. Although it's black overall, it will show other colors when there's light. Look, the feathers are colorful under the light."
Hearing what the other person said, Lin Xiang also looked closely at the tattoo on his wrist. "I didn't even notice until you pointed it out. It's a crow."
The vice-captain laughed. "You're funny. You don't even ask a question when someone brands you. I also have a little snake tattooed on me, also to cover up a burn on my waist. I'll show you sometime. How did you get your scar?"
Lin Xiang paused for a moment while drinking, "I got into a fight when I was in school, I forgot what hurt me."
The vice-captain didn't ask him what caused the injury, but only why. Lin Xiang's answer was off-target; he was explaining what caused the injury.
The vice-captain found the person he was chatting with and surprisingly didn't find anything wrong with the answer. He smiled broadly, as if he had met a kindred spirit. "What a coincidence! I was also injured when I was in school. But it was because I was saving someone. Our class monitor failed her exam and burned some paper in the classroom, which set the curtains on fire. The flames were terrifying. I rushed in in a moment of hot-bloodedness. The class monitor was a petite and cute girl, and I managed to pull her out in one go. But when I turned around, the broken curtain rod fell down and hit me right there."
The vice-captain touched his waist as he spoke, "I didn't feel any pain at the time, but it started burning when I carried the student representative out and put her down."
Anna smiled and leaned closer, "Oh, that was a hero saving a damsel in distress, the young lady should repay him with her body, right?"
Anna meant it as a joke, but to her surprise, the vice-captain actually nodded, moved her hand from her waist to her head and scratched it, "Now she's the mother of my child, and the little snake on my waist was chosen by her."
"How romantic! A snake tattoo on your waist means you're confessing your love and wanting to be with me forever." Anna lay on Lin Xiang's lap, her fingers playing with the tattoo on his wrist, the uneven wound covered by a raven with outstretched wings.
The vice-captain blushed even more, and laughed as he downed a glass of wine, saying, "You teachers are so good at talking, I love listening to you."
Anna smiled and looked up at Lin Xiang, "Aren't you envious, little Xiangxiang?"
Lin Xiang grasped Anna's hand and gently patted the back of her hand, saying, "If you encounter danger, I will risk my life for you."
Anna: Really?
Lin Xiang: "Really."
While enjoying her meal, Lin Keli pulled out one ear and leaned closer to listen to the three chatting, occasionally interjecting, "No rush, we can show our sincerity when we go to Weiming City later."
Upon hearing the words "Unnamed City," Lin Xiang frowned slightly, seemingly hesitating for a moment before looking in Anna and Lin Keli's direction. "I've been wanting to ask you, why did you decide to go to that place?"
This was the first time he had asked about something on his own initiative along the way.
Chi Xia has amazing hearing, especially when she's paying close attention to someone. Even when the surroundings are as noisy and chaotic as a boiling pot, she can still pick out the words of the person she's paying attention to from the hustle and bustle, like finding a needle in a haystack.
As if sensing something, Chi Xia turned her gaze to Xin Ran. Their eyes met briefly. Xin Ran was peeling shrimp. She glanced at Lin Xiang and then looked back at Chi Xia, winking at her. Sure enough, Xin Ran had also noticed Lin Xiang's unusual behavior.
But soon, Xun Jiang, who was immersed in his brotherly world, used some topic to pull Xin Ran into their private space.
Lin Keli, with her carefree attitude, shoveled pieces of beef into her mouth, puffing out her cheeks to let out the steam, and casually brushed off the question, "You should ask your darling about this. She's the one who planned the trip and invited people out."
After saying that, Lin Keli threw herself back into eating. Seeing two shrimp dumplings in Feng Xiao's bowl, she grabbed them with her chopsticks and took them away.
Feng Xiao turned around and yelled, "Teacher Lin, do you have any professional ethics? This is mine!"
Lin Keli smiled and put one in her mouth. "You've eaten a lot. I was counting them. Teacher's Day is coming soon. Consider this your gift to me."
"Disrespectful teacher, shameless!" Feng Xiao pouted and cursed.
Ye Feng didn't like to talk while eating. He ate slowly and watched the show, glancing at Chi Xia diagonally across from him every now and then. When he saw Feng Xu putting food on her plate, he kept frowning but seemed helpless.
Listening to Feng Xiao and Lin Keli's commotion, Cheng Mo picked up one of his own, quietly dipped it in his wasabi-filled bowl, and placed it in Lin Keli's bowl with a smile, "Teacher Lin, this is my gift to you, Happy Holiday!"
"Cheng Mo is still the most sensible one," Lin Keli said, picking up a piece of food and putting it in her mouth, just about to chew—
"Cough cough cough..." He coughed violently, pointing one finger in Cheng Mo's direction, patting his chest with the other, and curling up like a shrimp under the table.
Feng Xiao looked completely bewildered, and the others were even more confused. Cheng Mo handed the wine to Feng Xiao, who then passed it to Lin Keli. Lin Keli, thinking it was water, took a big gulp.
"Cough cough cough... Cheng... Mo, you... cough... utterly wicked scoundrel! You... cough murdered your teacher."
Now everyone knew what had happened. Chi Xia got up, poured a glass of warm water, walked over, squatted down, patted Lin Keli's back, and handed her the water to drink.
When Cheng Mo saw his homeroom teacher get up to intervene, he explained indifferently, "What are you saying, Teacher Lin? It's clearly because you're greedy. You didn't have enough of Feng Xiao's food and you wanted to eat mine too. I was eating the one with wasabi. Who told you to eat other people's food without checking?"
Lin Keli coughed until her face turned red. "Cheng Yang, aren't you going to do anything about your nephew?"
Cheng Yang sighed and put down his chopsticks. "Xiao Mo, apologize to Teacher Lin."
Cheng Mo smiled and said, "Teacher Lin, I'm sorry."
Lin Keli glared at the other person, picked up a shrimp dumpling, and dipped it into the other person's sauce dish. "You little brat, I can't handle you anymore. You have to eat this to apologize!"
Lin Keli was about to laugh, but seeing Cheng Mo pick up the shrimp dumpling covered in wasabi, put it in his mouth without changing his expression, and chew it with smacking sounds, "Mmm, so delicious!"
Lin Keli's laughter turned into steam, rising amidst the helpless clamor, "You actually... you incorrigible brat, I thought you had changed for the better now. This meal is on you."
Feng Xiao: "Teacher Lin, you've wronged him. He really did eat shrimp dumplings like that."
Cheng Mo smiled and said, "Okay, it's on me. I have so much money I don't know what to do with it."
Cheng Yang covered his face and reached out to pinch Cheng Mo's arm. "Xiao Mo, your dad and brother told you to keep a low profile when you're out and about."
Ye Feng had been watching Chi Xia the whole time. He saw her get up and walk closer to Cheng Mo, lean down slightly and whisper something in his ear. Then Cheng Mo's smile shattered like a glass falling to the ground.
Chi Xia straightened up and smiled.
Anna and Lin Xiang stood up hand in hand, smiling. "Let's go now that we've eaten."
On the way, Anna told Lin Xiang why she wanted to go to Weiming City. Her exact words were, "People always do something impulsive and reckless when their passion hasn't faded, just to seek excitement."
Lin Xiang: "Weiming City isn't as interesting as you think. It's not too late to regret it now."
Anna hooked her finger under Lin Xiang's chin, a playful smile on her face. "What, is my little Xiangxiang scared?"
Lin Xiang drove while the people around him teased him. He sighed deeply, "Baby, you're too naughty. When we go inside, hold on tight to me and don't run around or leave my sight."
"Okay, then you'd better watch out." After saying that, Anna disappeared into the dim shadows of the seat.
In Feng Xu's car, Tong Yue and Chi Xia sat in the back seat and said impatiently, "Teacher, I have looked at him carefully. There is nothing wrong with Lin Xiang. He is even an honest and upright person."
Chi Xia had no doubt about Tong Yue's abilities. "I'll find an opportunity to test him. Have you seen the tattoo on his wrist?"
Tong Yue nodded. "There was an insect egg under the tattoo. The egg didn't come into contact with his flesh and blood; it was isolated by a bag made of special material. But he himself has no connection with that thing, which is what I can't understand."
Chi Xia: "I don't think I would mistake someone for someone else. If I did, there's another possibility: Lin Xiang has a twin brother or sister who are roughly similar in height, build, and appearance."
Tong Yue recalled his previous observations of Lin Xiang, "It's a pity that even though I could clearly see his gene arrangement and chromosome distribution, I couldn't see this possibility. However, I did see that Lin Xiang's organs were missing. He only had one kidney; the other one had been removed, but his renal fossa was still there."
Feng Xu was driving in front, listening to the two talking. For the first time, he truly felt the wonder of Tong Yue's talent. He could see through different parts of a person's body and see through a person's true nature from their appearance.
Initially, because of his personal experiences, when he saw the mutated insects drawn by Tong Yue, he thought that Tong Yue was psychologically twisted and interested in such things, and he strongly rejected this ability.
Looking back now, it's probably not Tong Yue who was psychologically twisted, but rather the extent to which he accepted those things, which prevented him from seeing Tong Yue's talent in time.
Thinking of this, Feng Xu looked at Tong Yue in the rearview mirror and said, "Tong Yue, I want to apologize to you. I didn't realize before that you had such amazing talent."
Hearing the approval from someone important, Tong Yue was a little taken aback. He turned around blankly and asked softly, "Brother, what did you say?"
Feng Xu glanced at Chi Xia in the rearview mirror and smiled, "I said our Tong Yue is amazing, his talent is simply heaven-defying. It was my brother who was blind at first."
Tong Yue laughed, his eyes glistening with tears. He had been hiding them, afraid to look directly at them, and then deliberately concealed them for fear of being ostracized. After being exposed and misunderstood by his closest relatives, he felt as if he had seen a dazzling rainbow after the rain.
"Thank you, brother."
“There’s no need for thanks between family members. Your brother will protect you. You don’t need to live in fear anymore.” Feng Xu then looked at Chi Xia, “Thank you too, Chi Xia. You were the first to discover that my brother is a true genius.”
Chi Xia smiled faintly, "No need to be polite, I've always been sensitive to good things."
Feng Xu switched to driving mode, turned around, and asked, "Really? Are you sensitive about me?"
Tong Yue's eyes widened. His brother's direct approach was too blatant; it was so embarrassing. He covered his eyes with his hands.
Chi Xia laughed, "I can't accept what President Feng said."
Tong Yue quickly changed the subject, "Teacher, what did you just say to Cheng Mo? He looked so awful."
