Chapter 92 Farce
Friday was the day to go back to school to pick up their grades, and Gu Yin and Gu Hua headed to school early in the morning.
Upon arriving at school, Gu Yin went to the office first, where Wang Shumei was organizing summer homework—test papers.
Upon seeing her approach, he smiled and pointed to the test papers for each subject on the table, saying, "You don't have any. Go upstairs to the second floor later and get your second-year summer homework from the homeroom teacher of the experimental class 1. Just give it to the third-year homeroom teacher when school starts."
Gu Yin nodded upon hearing this: "Then which class am I in?" Each grade has two experimental classes, and since she skipped a grade, she didn't know which class she would be in.
Wang Shumei readily agreed: "Go to Class 1. You can register directly at the class teacher's window when school starts. I've already transferred your materials."
Gu Yin reached out to help tidy up, looked around, and whispered, "Teacher, what are the teachers of each subject in the experimental class of the third year of junior high like? What does the homeroom teacher teach?" She had to find out about the teachers of each subject first, in order to prevent doing anything out of line in the future that would make the teachers disapprove, and then the peaceful junior high life she hoped for would be gone.
Wang Shumei gave her a meaningful look, then took out a form and handed it to her: "I knew you would ask this. I don't know how you can think about so many things at such a young age?"
Gu Yin chuckled as she took the information sheet, which contained various information and rumors about all the teachers in the school. Gu Yin was stunned. How did our homeroom teacher have this?
Seeing Gu Yin looking at her in surprise, Wang Shumei coughed lightly, feeling embarrassed: "Ahem, this is my personal stuff. I have to take it away after you've shown it to me. Don't look at me like that. When I first came here, I felt the same way you do now. Knowing yourself and your enemy not only leads to victory in every battle, but also helps you avoid unnecessary trouble!"
Gu Yin wholeheartedly agreed: "Indeed! Our teacher has foresight! Amazing!"
Wang Shumei rolled her eyes: "Alright, stop being so cheeky. You don't need to worry about the other teachers in the third year of junior high. Just focus on your homeroom teacher. But you might need to be careful. Your Chinese teacher in the experimental class is Principal Huang Ting's husband, Wen Tianming. I haven't finished researching his information yet, but I've heard some rumors at school, and they seem to be true. Just be careful. Your homeroom teacher is Zhang Lanxia, who teaches English. I imagine she'll like you a lot. I won't say much about the other teachers. Having been your teacher for a year, I really like you. You're smart, self-disciplined, know what you want, hardworking, obedient, and a great helper to the teacher. I hope you achieve top marks in next year's high school entrance exam!"
Gu Yin pursed her lips and nodded: "Our teacher is the best and most open-minded teacher I have ever met. I wish him all his wishes come true and that his students will be found all over the world!"
After she finished speaking, the other teachers in the office arrived one after another. Gu Yin first took the summer homework to the class and instructed the subject representatives to distribute it. She then took the English test papers and handed them out herself.
Zhao Xiaomin took the test paper and saw Gu Yin leave immediately, so she quickly called out, "There's one more! Desk mate, you haven't received yours yet!"
Gu Yin turned around and whispered, "I skipped a grade. I'm taking the summer homework for the second year of junior high. Don't tell anyone else, keep it low-key." After saying that, she smiled and left to continue distributing the homework.
Zhao Xiaomin looked at Gu Yin walking away with a confused expression and muttered, "Skipping a grade? Skipping what grade? What's this about skipping a grade?"
Song Pengfei, who sat at the table behind Gu Yin, also heard what she said. He was stunned for a while, then sighed and said, "I thought I could catch up, but she just flew away. How can the gap be so big?"
"Yeah, I haven't even mastered the material from the first year of junior high, how come she's already in the third year?!" Qin Xueming's steamed bun suddenly lost its flavor; the stark differences among people were on full display at this moment!
When Gu Yin returned, the three of them had calmed down. Zhao Xiaomin asked in a low voice, "What do you need to do to skip a grade? Can I skip it?" She was also studying junior high school material on her own. She didn't want to fall too far behind Gu Yin. If possible, she would grit her teeth and skip a grade!
"We had to take the exam together during the final exam of the second year of junior high school. It was in the head teacher's classroom, surrounded by teachers. After we finished answering the questions, the teachers graded the papers on the spot, and we knew the results immediately." Gu Yin told her about her experience.
After hearing Gu Yin's words, Zhao Xiaomin became withdrawn, and Song Pengfei, who was originally somewhat interested, also quieted down. They had only studied half of the junior high school curriculum, and they would definitely be at the bottom of the class in the final exam. There was absolutely no way they could skip a grade!
"Sigh, forget it then, I'll just stick to the usual steps! You can be the expert all to yourself, I won't join in the fun!" Zhao Xiaomin said with a bit of regret.
Gu Yin patted her shoulder: "We're just not in the same grade, but we're still in the same dorm. I didn't change dorms!"
For the three years of junior high school, students will live in the same dormitory they stayed in during their first year. When the third-year students leave, the new students will move into the vacant dormitory. They don't have to move, which is more convenient. Gu Yin quite likes this arrangement.
Zhao Xiaomin thought about it and realized it made sense! Her reluctance to part with the child vanished!
After the test papers were distributed, the subject representatives went to the blackboard to write down the other summer homework assigned by their respective teachers. Math had the most homework, and they didn't finish writing until the assembly bell rang.
"Come back and continue copying the questions after you're dismissed!" The math representative put down the materials, gave the instructions, and left the classroom.
The new principal himself hosted this gathering, so the director was not needed at all. Gu Yin was unsure if they had started assigning roles, as she was just a student and didn't know anything.
The new principal is much more meticulous than the previous one. The previous principal went straight to announcing the rankings and awarding prizes, while Principal Huang Ting talked about a lot of good and bad things that happened this semester, and then gave a summary that lasted an hour and a half.
The students below were starting to lose their composure, and the line was becoming disorganized. Seeing this, Huang Ting immediately said with displeasure, "I just finished explaining the rules, and look at the way you're lining up! What kind of line is this! Crooked and crooked! Is this how students should behave? Stand up straight! Class teachers, go down and take a look! Anyone who's not standing properly, bring them to the front! Let everyone see!"
Gu Yin sighed inwardly. The reason this school was shut down after two years was 90% due to the students' insubordination and frequent fights. Huang Ting's shout would definitely not make those who were already impatient listen obediently.
Sure enough, as soon as she said that, the boys in the regular second-year classes started to protest: "Principal! We came here first thing in the morning and haven't even had breakfast yet! You've been talking for over an hour, aren't you going to finish? My legs are shaking. Even if the soldiers were here, they couldn't stand your endless nagging! Enough already, is it interesting to keep talking like this every day?"
"That's right, that's right! Our school is so good, Principal, you've only just arrived and haven't gotten to know us yet. We're all good students! We know what to do without you telling us! If you keep going, those bookworms from the next class will collapse! Then you'll have a hard time explaining to their parents when they come over!"
The students from other classes joined in the commotion. Huang Ting remained silent, but Gu Yin could see that her face had turned dark.
In the past, the director would have come down to maintain order long ago, but this time, he stood quietly to the side with his head down.
Seeing the growing chaos below, Huang Ting took a deep breath, adjusted her black-rimmed glasses, looked coldly at the crowd, then stepped down from the podium and went up to the teachers' building.
The audience quieted down for a moment, then started making noise again. The teacher couldn't control them at all, and they didn't really want to either; if the teacher interfered too much, they would be the ones who suffered.
The director looked around, didn't see Huang Ting, smiled, and walked onto the stage.
"Would you like to go home for dinner early?"
"Yes!" the noisy male voices roared.
The director nodded: "Then we'll dismiss everyone after I present the awards!"
Cheers erupted from below.
The director gestured for them to come up and start calling out names: "Gu Hua, first prize winner of the second year of junior high, and Gu Yin, first prize winner of the first year of junior high. Please come up to receive your awards."
The two sisters met on the stage, smiled, stood in front, accepted the certificate, gifts, and 30 yuan bonus, took a picture, and went down. As for the city ranking, the director didn't mention it. He had already wasted so much time, and if he continued to talk about it, things would get out of hand. Anyway, their teacher and Gu Yin already knew.
Next, the students who won second and third prizes went on stage. The awards ceremony ended in less than half an hour, and the director smiled and waved to everyone: "See you next semester then. Have fun during the summer vacation, but be careful! Dismissed!"
