Chapter 33 Rescue (Part 2)
Hearing 001 say this, Gu Yin frowned even more deeply. That place has always been taboo for everyone. Many criminals like to cause trouble there because it's easy to escape, there are mountains nearby, and it's a place where you can travel in all directions!
It's still raining heavily tonight, so even if there are any traces, they'll be washed away by the water.
A person wearing a raincoat suddenly appeared in front of the flashlight. Gu Yin's heart skipped a beat. When she saw that there was a battery in the other person's car, it was obviously going to fish with electricity. Her heart, which had been in her throat, settled down.
The two passed each other by. After riding for a while, Gu Yin looked back and saw that the man had stopped where they had just met and was staring in her direction. When the man saw Gu Yin turn around, he quickly reached out as if to check something on the back seat. Gu Yin stopped looking at him and quickly rode away.
When they reached the three-way intersection, Gu Yin got out of the car and pulled out a round leather whip from the seat cushion. She had used it to tie a quilt to take to school before, but Gu Yin had kept it tied to the seat cushion because she was worried about safety on the way to evening self-study in the winter when it was dark.
Which cornfield?
001 scanned the area: "On the left, there's only one living being inside, but it looks very weak. If we don't rescue it soon, it might be too late."
Gu Yin found a stick next to the thorny vines and, after entering the cornfield, forcefully knocked off the corn leaves, making the passageway wider and easier to enter. The rain was so heavy that her short water boots were already soaked, and water was gushing out of her boots as she walked.
When they were on the outskirts of the cornfield, they couldn't hear anything yet, all they could hear was the patter of rain. But as they walked in, they could hear people groaning in pain. Gu Yin shone her flashlight and quickened her pace.
After walking a short distance further, Gu Yin saw a dark figure lying motionless on the ground ahead. She stopped and realized that the sound was coming from there, so she jogged over.
Even though she had fallen into a beggar gang while searching for Gu Le in her previous life and witnessed many cruel things, Gu Yin still trembled when she saw the miserable state of the person on the ground.
Where the flashlight shone, one side of the man's face was covered in blood, and his eye socket was dark. Gu Yin glanced away. The man's hands and feet were limp on the ground, and he was covered in mud. He trembled from time to time and then made a painful sound. Rain kept washing over his face. This was a man from their village. Gu Yin knew him. He was Li Li, an orphan.
"We have no cell phone and nothing to save us, what should we do? 001, do you have any ideas?" Gu Yin remained calm, especially in this critical situation.
001 shook her head: "Yes, but you don't have enough points to buy it."
"Can I pay you back later?"
001 was confused: "This person has nothing to do with you, why are you wasting your points to save him? From the time I met you until now, I don't think you're a busybody."
Gu Yin squatted down, took the scarf off her neck, lifted the man's head, and circled it around the wound: "It really doesn't matter. In my past life, even if I knew that the people pretending to be mute and asking me for money at the subway entrance, on the street, or on the bus were scammers, I would still give them a little. Even if I knew that those who provided clues were scammers, I would still send money with a sliver of hope. What if the money those scammers brought back could be used for my brother or younger brother? Or what if the money they brought back pleased the higher-ups, so they wouldn't get beaten up as much, and my brother and the others could have an easier day? Every time I go to another city, I go into any Taoist temple or Buddhist temple I see and kneel down to pray, do good deeds and praise their merits, hoping that they can have a little better time while I haven't found them. I believe in karma."
After saying that, he lowered his head and looked closely. He found that his limbs were bleeding. If the bleeding continued like this, even a god couldn't save him!
"001, what do I have available?"
001 sighed helplessly: "Just take a tiny bit of the Rejuvenation Pill you won in the lottery, just a tiny bit, no more than a fingernail's width! That's enough for him!"
The Sumeru Mustard Seed that Gu Yin had won in the previous lottery had already been transformed by 001 into a blue-silver butterfly, which was reflected on the inside of Gu Yin's left arm.
She had never used the two pills she won in the lottery; she had kept them in her Sumeru Mustard Seed.
The basic Sumeru Mustard Seed is only five square meters in size. It's completely empty inside, like a metal box. However, time seems to stand still inside. What you go in is what you come out. Gu Yin was very satisfied with this. She had kept all her important manuscripts inside.
Reaching out, she took out a wooden box and placed it above Gu Yin to create a space, preventing rainwater from dripping onto the box.
Upon opening the box, a perfectly round, snow-white pill, about the size of a thumb, came into view. To prevent the medicine from losing its efficacy, this was the first time Gu Yin had opened the medicine box.
A rich, refreshing fragrance wafted over, instantly making Gu Yin, who had been feeling a bit tired, feel relaxed and her mind became incredibly clear.
This is really good stuff!
Reaching out to take the pill, and amidst 001's constant reminders, "Just a little bit! Just a little bit!", he scraped off a piece about the size of a grain of rice.
Gu Yin: "...Is this okay?"
"Absolutely! Let him hold on until you go back and get someone, or even take him to the hospital! Put the pills back right now, stop trying to take them!"
Seeing him frantically flapping his wings and trying to take off, Gu Yin couldn't help but laugh: "Why are you so stingy?"
001 stared with wide, round eyes: "Where am I being stingy! You have no idea how difficult it is to obtain this medicine! Restoration Pills are easy to get, but Rejuvenation Pills are extremely rare! What will you do if you need them later and run out? Put them in quickly!"
Gu Yin knew he was doing it for her own good, so she obediently put it into the Sumeru Mustard Seed, then pried open Li Li's mouth and threw the medicine in.
In no time, Li Li, who had been groaning in pain, suddenly fell silent. His bleeding wound stopped, his breathing became even, and his body stopped stiffening. After a while, you could even hear his breathing.
Gu Yin folded up the corn stalks next to him and planted them around him to shield him from the rain.
After making sure everything was in order, Gu Yin left the cornfield. As soon as she got on her bike, she saw a flash of lightning coming from behind. Gu Yin stopped and turned around. After waiting for two minutes, two motorcycles rode up and stopped next to Gu Yin. There were four people on the motorcycles.
"Hey Ayin, what are you doing here in the middle of the night instead of at school? And why are you all alone? You're so reckless! Don't you know it's not safe at night? There's no one at home to warn you! You didn't even bring a raincoat!" After saying that, the person got out of the car and handed her a raincoat: "Put this on quickly!"
Gu Yin didn't take it, but opened the umbrella: "Village chief, it's raining heavily, so I didn't open the umbrella. Where are you going to get back?"
Seeing that she didn't take the raincoat, although the umbrella could block the rain, and the raincoat smelled fishy, Li Sen didn't insist, and reached out to open the bag next to the car, gesturing for Gu Yin to look.
Gu Yin looked down and saw that the fish inside were swarming around, both big and small.
"The water in the reservoir has started to leak out, so a few of us went over to keep watch after dusk and caught some fish!" The rain was so heavy that they had to shout to speak.
"Alright, alright, can't we talk at home? There's nothing to talk about here, and it's raining so hard! Tie A-Yin's car to the back and take her home!" Li Shengcai was finally exasperated with the two of them! In this pouring rain, so cold he could barely speak, they were still in the mood for idle chatter. Couldn't they just go back home and talk about it?!
Gu Yin looked at Li Shengcai: "Uncle Shengcai, you may not be able to leave now."
It was late at night, raining, and thundering intermittently. Looking into Gu Yin's deep eyes, Li Shengcai suddenly shuddered: "Why, why can't we go back?" After saying that, he hid behind Li Sen. How scary were those words? In this dark weather, a girl walking alone on the road looked eerie no matter how you looked at it!
Li Sen: "..." This guy is so old and still so timid! He's a disgrace to the younger generation!
Gu Yin: "..." Why do I feel like laughing?
001 didn't bother to hide it, and burst out laughing in the space: "Does he think you're a ghost? Hahaha!"
Gu Yin sighed, "There's a problem here, come with me! Someone's injured!" She then turned and walked into the cornfield.
Seeing her like this, Li Shengcai became even more frightened, his hand trembling as he gripped Li Sen's: "Shall we...go too?"
Li Sen slapped his hand away impatiently: "Shameful!" Then he frowned and quickly followed.
The other two locked the car, looked at Li Shengcai and laughed: "Why don't you stay here and watch the car? We'll go by ourselves!"
Li Shengcai's eyes lit up, and he quickly nodded: "Sure, sure!"
The two shook their heads helplessly and followed swiftly.
Li Shengcai stomped his foot. It was so cold, why was she staying here instead of going home? Someone was injured? Who would be injured here so late at night? That girl must be lying!
Aside from the sound of rain, the only other sound was his own breathing. Li Shengcai began to panic. Had he made a mistake? What if there were ghosts here all alone? The more he thought about it, the more frightened he became. Surrounded by graves, Li Shengcai looked back and felt a sense of unease, as if someone was there. In a panic, he immediately turned and ran into the cornfield! He quickly rejoined his group!
After he left, the surroundings became quiet. The dark figure behind the cemetery got up with his tools and walked towards the road to another village.
Gu Yin led the group to where Li Li was lying, removed the corn stalks that had been stuck in her ears, and then Li Li, who was extremely disheveled and still unconscious, was exposed to everyone.
"How did this happen? How did this happen? Who did this?!" Li Sen staggered a couple of times, then immediately squatted down, wanting to touch her but afraid of aggravating her wound! His eyes were bloodshot as he looked at Gu Yin: "What on earth happened?!"
The other two immediately took off their raincoats and stood above Li Li.
Gu Yin recounted what she had seen: "My mom is going to the market to sell vegetables tomorrow. My brother is staying at school these days, and I was worried she wouldn't dare to go, so I came back after class tonight. I was a little behind, and suddenly I heard several loud screams from the earthen slope. Judging from the direction, it was from our village, so I immediately rode my bike over. Later, I heard the painful sounds coming from outside the cornfield. When I came in, I saw him like this and did some hemostasis. The bleeding has stopped now, but he needs to be taken to the hospital. I can't handle it by myself, so I thought I'd go back and get help first. And then you'll know what happened next."
“Li Li doesn’t usually have any enemies! Have you seen anyone else?” Li Sen asked, frowning.
Gu Yin shook her head: "I only met one person who went fishing at the earthen slope, I didn't see anyone else."
"Could it be that he had a conflict with someone at school and came here to seek revenge?" the others wondered.
Li Sen stood up: "Never mind that for now, you two lift him up and put him on my back! Get him to the hospital right away!"
“He has injuries on his wrists and ankles, be careful.”
The two men forcefully placed the person on Li Sen's back, and just as they were about to leave, they bumped into Li Shengcai who came in.
When Li Shengcai saw the extra person behind the village chief, he was startled: "What's going on? Where did this person come from? Who is this?"
As Li Sen walked, he said, "Li Li, you've been injured, and it's serious. Get him to the hospital right away!"
Holy crap, there really are injured people! Good heavens, this place is terrifying!
As the group went outside, the village lights were bright in the direction they came from, and the sounds of tricycles and motorcycles followed.
After putting the person on the motorcycle, Li Sen shone a large flashlight forward and saw that the person driving the tricycle was his father. He breathed a sigh of relief, then turned off the flashlight and waited for them to arrive.
After Gu Shu and the others returned to the village, they went straight to the village chief's house, but the village chief was not home. Only the old village chief was there. After they told him what had happened, the old village chief quickly found Li Dashan and several other village officials, and they drove over.
Gu Shu was sitting in the back of the tricycle when he saw people ahead. His heart jumped. Could these people be so bold as to hurt someone and still be here?
When they got closer and saw Gu Yin standing there like a drowned rat, Gu Shu's vision went black, and he couldn't even stand up straight, so he sat down directly in the truck bed.
His mother used to experience blurred vision and a feeling of the world turning upside down, but he didn't think much of it at the time. Now he finally understands it!
He grabbed the bicycle handle and stood up, staggering towards Gu Yin. He even picked up a small twig along the way. When he got to Gu Yin, he didn't say a word, but started hitting her buttocks and back.
"What are you doing here at night instead of at school! Huh! What are you doing back here?! It's raining heavily, and it's so dark! Is this the kind of time a girl should be out in the dark?! Tell me! Why did you come back?! Auntie says you've grown up and become sensible, but I think you're getting more and more disobedient! Running out in the middle of the night, is this something a sensible and obedient person would do?!"
Gu Yin was stunned when Gu Shu returned, and even more surprised that Gu Shu would appear here at this time. She only came to her senses after being hit.
Hearing Gu Shu's accusations and sensing the sobs and fear in his voice, Gu Yin suddenly felt incredibly guilty. She hugged Gu Shu, who was still hitting her, and said pitifully, "Brother, I know I was wrong, really. I'm cold and hungry now, please don't be angry, okay? So many people are watching! Besides, I originally wanted to come back with the villagers, but the teacher went overtime, and I..."
Hearing Gu Yin's last words, Gu Shu, who was still angry, hugged her tightly and said, "You brat, it's a good thing you didn't come back with us." Otherwise, he was afraid that she would be the one who got into trouble. Girls are less physically strong, and if they fell behind, who knows what those people would do? Just thinking about it made him feel scared.
The old village chief was also surprised to see Gu Yin, but he didn't come over to speak. Instead, he looked at Li Li in the car and saw that his hands and feet were covered in white sores from being soaked in water. He immediately looked at his son and said, "You take the lead and take him to the hospital. I'll follow behind in the car. The other adults and children can go back first! I'll go to the police station to report this later. Such arrogance is simply inhuman!"
After arranging everything, the old village chief, Li Sen, Li Dashan, and the two people who had just been with Li Sen, the five of them, took Li Li and headed towards the town.
Gu Yin's bicycle was here. Gu Shu let go of her and became the driver, taking Gu Yin with him as they followed the group towards the village.
It's almost midnight now, and everyone is exhausted. When we got to the village, no one said a word, and everyone went home. Who knows what tomorrow will bring?
As Zhunben knocked on the door, Gu Yin looked at Gu Shu and said, "Don't tell my mom about this yet. I'm afraid she'll worry. Let's talk about it when Grandma comes back."
Gu Shu looked at her irritably: "You didn't even tell me you were coming back! If you can come back, why can't I? You have no idea how terrifying today was. It happened right behind me, and we ran for our lives! There were three murderers, and Li Chenggong said there was even a gun! From now on, I won't come back for evening self-study anymore, and no matter what, don't you come back either! Do you hear me? Seeing you there almost made my heart stop!"
Gu Yin nodded: "I know!" She didn't want Gu Shu to come back either, since no one knew who those people were or if they would come back.
