Chapter 308 A Slap

Chapter 308 A Slap

Gu Yin knocked on the principal's office door with a newspaper in hand.

Recently, due to the college entrance examination, all the teachers in the school have been busy, including the principal. So even though it was already 8 p.m., the light in the principal's office was still on.

"Please come in."

Gu Yin pushed open the door and saw the principal wearing glasses, busy at work.

Du Zhongming looked up and saw Gu Yin. He asked in surprise, "Gu Yin? What brings you here? What brings you here?"

Gu Yin placed the newspaper in front of him: "Principal, please take a look at this first."

Du Zhongming took off his glasses and picked up the newspaper. When he saw the headline, his brows furrowed.

After reading the entire section word by word, he slammed the newspaper on the table in anger: "Absurd! This is slander! How dare this person write such nonsense! Since when have the admission requirements for Jiang High School been decided by others? Where is Chu Yan?"

Du Zhongming walked around the office with such a reputation that he was incredibly malicious! He not only wanted to ruin Chu Yan, but also Jiang Gao's century-old reputation!

"Their class had their graduation dinner today, and they're eating out."

“Call him and tell him to wait for me at the school gate. We’re going to the Nanjing Daily. I want to see if these people have gone so far as to fabricate facts and profit from tragedy just for attention! You come along, and tell me what happens on the way!”

Gu Yin nodded, first called Chu Yan, and then recounted the whole story on the way.

Du Zhong's fame was so great that he even swore a couple of times.

When the two arrived at the school gate, Chu Yan and their class teacher were already waiting there.

The two got into the car, and Ms. Xiang, the senior high school homeroom teacher, said angrily, "Chu Yan didn't explain clearly just now. Where's the newspaper? Let me see what's going on! How dare those Tom, Dick, and Harry slander our class monitor?! I'm so angry! This person has ruined my good mood! What a piece of trash!!"

Gu Yin handed him the newspaper. Teacher Xiang took it and started reading while cursing, "The idioms are wrong! The sentence structure is all wrong! This is wrong, this is wrong! What kind of rubbish can become a reporter? What's the difference between him and a gossipy woman at the village entrance! He dares to suspect that our school is a cradle for rich kids to get their gold?! I'd rather suspect that this newspaper is owned by him! Otherwise, how could this piece of utter nonsense pass the review? I'm going to report it! Report it!"

Gu Yin blinked, then looked at Chu Yan. Chu Yan's lips curled up, and he leaned closer to Gu Yin and whispered, "All the teachers at Jiang Gao High School are like this, protective of their own. You have to get used to it." The main reason is that the students are all very promising.

Gu Yin thought of her Chinese teacher, Teacher Cheng, who looked just like that. She smiled and nodded, finding her very cute.

Half an hour later, the car stopped in front of a brightly lit building.

Gu Yin got out of the car, looked at the words "Jiangshi Newspaper Group" written in large characters in front of her, and then looked at the principal.

The principal straightened his clothes and walked inside with a cold expression.

Apart from Gu Yin, the other three were all dressed in formal attire and had serious expressions. If it weren't for Gu Yin in her school uniform, people would have thought they were leaders coming to inspect.

This building houses all the newspaper offices in Jiang City, as well as some government agencies.

The Southern Daily was on the 4th floor, and the four of them took the elevator up.

The elevator doors opened, and directly opposite them was the reception desk of the Nanjing Daily.

The place was bustling with people, noisy and chaotic, clearly indicating that many people were still working overtime, or perhaps the entire office was at work.

Du Zhongming took the newspaper and went inside, knocking on the front desk: "Excuse me, could you please find the editor-in-chief of your newspaper? I am Du Zhongming, the principal of Jianggao High School."

The receptionist noticed his unusual expression and called the editor-in-chief's office. Less than two minutes later, a bespectacled, refined-looking man came out. Judging from his slightly disheveled clothes and unkempt beard, he was clearly very busy.

Upon seeing Du Zhongming, a hint of embarrassment flashed across the other man's face, then he smiled helplessly and stepped forward, extending his hand in greeting: "What brings you here?!"

Seeing his reaction, Du Zhongming felt a surge of anger that he couldn't vent, and in the end, he could only let out a cold snort without reaching out.

The other party didn't seem embarrassed at all, and shook his head with a smile: "Let's talk in my office."

It was clear that the other party already knew why they had come.

Upon entering the office, Du Zhongming slammed the newspaper onto the other person's desk and sneered, "Don't you have an explanation for this, Editor Lu?"

Editor Lu poured them tea and said with a wry smile, "When I saw this layout the day before yesterday, I knew you would come to me. Can I say I tried to stop you, but could I?"

Du Zhongming sat down, took a sip of tea, and said quietly, "You're the editor-in-chief. How could the newspaper pass the review without your approval? You can fool others, but are you sure you can fool me? Old classmate, don't forget that we worked together at the newspaper for a while back then."

Editor Lu pursed his lips: "Indeed, when I saw this section, I did try to stop it, but I really couldn't. Our newspaper has a new president, and this reporter is his son. Since he came to the newspaper, this place has basically become his personal fiefdom. I am the editor-in-chief of the newspaper, but I am not the editor of the president's son. I can't control him. Old classmate, I really can't do anything about it."

Even if he wanted to manage it, he couldn't.

"So you let him frame my student, frame Jiang Gao, spread rumors about Jiang Gao. It's not that you can't control him, you just want to make a big fuss, you want everyone to know about it, you want him to pay the price. You'd better get out of the newspaper, that would just dirty your hands. Editor Lu, you even dragged me into this, you're really getting worse as you get older. If you had just told me directly, or asked me for help, wouldn't I have done it? You've pulled this stunt, making me look down on you. Today is the last time I'll help you. From now on, let's pretend we don't know each other. Call your client and the editor-in-chief over here."

Du Zhongming was right. He wanted to use Du Zhongming to get rid of the new president. When he saw the draft, he thought the other party was arrogant and dared to try to get rid of Jiang Gao's people. Then he thought, why not use Du Zhongming to get rid of the president? Or at least get rid of the president's son. So, as usual, he just raised some questions. The other party became impatient and asked him to sign it immediately. He pretended to struggle for a moment and then signed it.

If we don't know each other, we don't know each other. Anyway, we're on different paths now. Du Zhongming is rising higher and higher, while I'm still stuck in this small newspaper office, trying to make do. My life is pretty much over, and that's just how it is for me.

Soon, the president and his son arrived.

When the president saw Du Zhongming, he smiled and handed over the money: "Principal Du, why didn't you let me know you were coming? I could have arranged time to entertain you! See, haven't I been neglectful?!"

The reporter who had previously stopped Chu Yan to conduct an interview paused for a moment when he saw Chu Yan and Gu Yin, then rolled his eyes with a look of disdain.

Gu Yin raised her eyebrows. It seemed the locals were still unaware of the reason for their arrival, or perhaps they knew and thought they had come to seek peace?

Unlike Principal Du, Teacher Xiang didn't have a good temper. She looked directly at the reporter and said, "I'm asking you, why did you lie? Why did you spread rumors? Why did you frame my student? This is such a false report! As a reporter! A reporter from a legitimate organization! Do you even realize that your reckless behavior could kill someone?!"

The editor-in-chief paused, looked at them with suspicion, and then at his son: "What happened?" He had thought his son had come to see Editor Lu, but it seemed that wasn't the case, and something had happened that he didn't know about!

Du Zhongming handed him the newspaper: "Look at what your son has done! You're finished, I'm telling you, your son has ruined you!"

The editor-in-chief's heart skipped a beat. He took the newspaper, and the more he read, the more his chest heaved and his breathing became rapid!

After reading it, he staggered and turned around to slap him!
