Chapter 686: Ji Yang (Two chapters combined)
Beautiful Country, 3 PM.
After leaving the hotel, Chu Yan followed the information given to him by Gu Le and went to the residential area near Harvard University to look for someone.
After getting out of the car, Chu Yan frowned as he looked at the mottled, rusty building in front of him.
I don't know how Ah Le got to know this person, or what is it about him that made Ah Le so interested in him.
This is room 305 on the third floor.
Chu Yan knocked on the door, and after a short while, the door opened and a scruffy-looking young man with a slovenly beard came out.
The other person had very dark circles under their eyes, and their eyes were bloodshot, clearly indicating that they hadn't had a proper rest in a long time. However, their eyes didn't quite match their outward appearance; there was still a sparkle in them, as if their current predicament was only temporary.
What Chu Yan didn't know was that Ji Yang hadn't met them in his previous life. Although he dealt with it himself, he went through a lot of torture before being released without charge. When he joined the Chu Group to help Chu Yan, he was still in a state of graduation.
"Who are you?" Ji Yang breathed a sigh of relief when he saw that the person knocking on the door was Chinese. But now everyone around him was avoiding him like the plague, so how could anyone be willing to come looking for him? Ji Yang's heart jumped again.
Chu Yan raised an eyebrow: "I am Chu Yan. Someone told me you are very talented and asked me to come and find you. Shall we go in and have a chat?"
Ji Yang paused for a moment, nodded, opened the door, and let the person in: "Who sent you here? My name is Ji Yang. If you know me, you should know that my situation is very bad right now, and I could be in jail at any time. That person may have lied to you, so you'd better not have any contact with me."
Chu Yan entered the house, a small but clean two-bedroom apartment, without the mess of cigarette butts and empty bottles that often result from trouble.
Chu Yan gave him an extra point in her heart; his composure and calmness in the face of adversity were quite rare.
Sitting on the sofa, Chu Yan looked at Ji Yang: "Are you a student at Foshan University? What's your major? What's going on with you right now? Tell me about it."
Ji Yang: "...It seems you really have been deceived. But you're Chu Yan? I've heard so much about you! But I've never met you before. I'm your senior from three years ahead of you, and I'm currently pursuing my PhD in the same department. As for what happened, it's a long story. My advisor has several companies in the United States, and I'm currently managing one of them. Everything was fine for the past two years, but for some reason, that company was suspected of money laundering. After that, I was detained, and my advisor bailed me out. During this time, I've been looking for evidence and hiring lawyers, but no lawyer dares to take the case. The school told me to handle it before going back. If I can't get out of this mess, I'll most likely go to jail. That's about it."
Chu Yan has a mentor named George, the world's richest man, the king of finance, a man who can make waves on Wall Street. Mr. George only teaches at the University of Florida when he has nothing to do. Most of the time he travels between countries, and wherever he goes, the country becomes wary. George also particularly likes to stay in war-torn countries. He feels that it is a great sense of accomplishment to revitalize an economically paralyzed country through his hands. In other words, business battles between companies can no longer satisfy his ambition. Only the business between countries can arouse his interest. But now it is a time of peace, so he can only take his disciples to war-torn countries.
Ji Yang had heard of Chu Yan because it was widely rumored in the industry that their graduation theses and designs were completed perfectly within a specified timeframe to save the economy of a war-torn country. If George was called a madman, then his disciples were called little madmen. As the only Yezhou native among his disciples, and also a Chinese, Chu Yan was very famous in the industry.
When Chu Yan saw him recounting this matter, apart from his furrowed brows, he showed no other emotions, such as exasperation, anger, or irritability.
Chu Yan nodded: "You have a PhD in economics, and the company you manage is suspected of money laundering. I don't believe you don't have people you suspect, nor do I believe you don't have evidence."
Upon hearing this, Ji Yang fell silent for a moment, then put his hands on his head and said in a deep voice, "Yes, the evidence I found all proves that the person behind it is my mentor. The money laundering is true, and the fact that I was sacrificed is also true. He should have been watching me for a long time. A Chinese person with no relatives or friends, someone with excellent grades but often looked down upon by those around him, once things come to light and the blame is placed on me, the first reaction of those around me will definitely be, 'See, I knew he was that kind of person! He's bound to commit crimes! No wonder no one likes him, everyone knows how to avoid harm and seek benefit!' and so on. I treated my mentor as an elder and a relative, but he turned out to be the demon who pushed me into hell."
Knowing this would happen, Chu Yan said helplessly, "My fellow apprentices never help our teacher manage the company. Besides not being able to take responsibility, they're also afraid of not being able to distinguish right from wrong. My teacher thinks so too. So, for our assessment, he always sets out a certain amount of funds for us to start our own company or acquire one company at a time. He doesn't invest; he only looks at the results. You're really bold. The United States has always been prejudiced against us, yet you still dare to take on the role of legal representative. I don't know if you're naive or sentimental. Now that there's evidence, shouldn't this matter be easily overturned? How did it turn out like this?"
Ji Yang slumped on the sofa, his eyes vacant: "I couldn't find a good lawyer, so I found an alumnus from our school. But after I gave him the evidence, he disappeared. I made a backup, but my computer was also attacked, so the evidence is gone. It's impossible to collect it again. My teacher is already on guard against me, I can't get into the company, and I can't hire a lawyer."
Chu Yan: "This is the first time I've seen such a miserable international student. You've studied for so many years, how come you don't know how to develop your network?"
Ji Yang silently looked at Chu Yan: "It has developed, but I have no capital, and people are unwilling to befriend me. Those who are friendly with me are people who are rich but have no power. My teacher played a big role in this. After this incident, many families were contacted, and those people stopped paying attention to me."
Chu Yan: "...Put away that pitiful look on your face. Alright, I understand. Now, tell me, what are your plans if this is resolved?"
Ji Yang blinked: "If I can get out of here unscathed, I will continue to pursue my doctorate, but I won't stay here. I will go back to China and work while pursuing my doctorate. Cough, the main reason I got tricked this time was because I was too sentimental. Actually, I'm not stupid or dumb, and I'm capable at work. My supervisor's company was about to go bankrupt, but I managed to save it. That company is a listed company."
Chu Yan: "...You certainly know how to climb the rope! No matter how confident you are, it's useless. I need to see results. After this is over, go back to the Chu family headquarters in Beijing and let me see your abilities."
After Chu Yan finished speaking, he got up and left: "You don't need to worry about this. I'll handle it for you. Get some rest. Your dark circles are worse than a panda's!"
Ji Yang quickly stood up and shouted, "Can I ask who sent you to find me?" He really wanted to know who had sent Chu Yan to rescue him at this critical moment.
"It's my younger brother, a little kid." He said, then went out and downstairs.
Ji Yang suddenly realized, "So it's the young master of the Chu family! I have to thank him later! I don't know where he got such good luck to be noticed by the young master of the Chu family!"
The matter on his mind was finally settled. With Chu Yan's help, even without his teacher's assistance, those people wouldn't dare to do anything to him. Chu Yan also had money. Lawyers in the United States may seem xenophobic, but as long as you can afford enough money, there won't be any problems. If Chu Yan couldn't solve it, his teacher would still help. In any case, he no longer needed to worry about this matter.
Ji Yang's eyelids started to droop, so he decided to sleep first, get enough rest, and then go back to school to complete the formalities before reporting to Chu's company after everything was resolved!
After returning to the hotel, Chu Yan contacted Gu Yin and immediately tattled on Gu Le, revealing what Gu Le had asked him to do.
"I don't know where Ah Le met that Ji Yang. He's so stupid. He was bought and he's still counting the money for the seller. I'll put him in my hands to work for now, and then send him over when Ah Le wants someone. He's so silly! Ah Le is happy to have an easy time, but I have to come all this way. You finally get a break, and then you call me abroad. We don't even have any time for the two of us!"
Gu Yin found it somewhat amusing: "If he were really stupid, you wouldn't have put him in the Chu family. You would have helped him solve his problems, but you wouldn't care about what happened to him afterward. The fact that you let him return to the country and join the Chu family shows that he is a decent person, at least in your heart, he is worth saving."
Chu Yan chuckled: "He's a bit silly, but he's still somewhat useful."
"If you get involved, won't it be bad for you?" Gu Yin asked with some concern.
Chu Yan laughed and said, "It's alright. Everything requires evidence. I've already contacted Bai Xiao and asked him to repair the deleted evidence. I've hired my mentor's legal team. If that's not enough, I'll have my teacher handle it later. But I don't think I'll need him. I'll be going back in a few days."
After hanging up the phone, Gu Yin thought for a moment and then contacted Gu Le.
"Sister! Aren't you busy?" Gu Le was taking a break and asked happily as she looked at Gu Yin on the screen.
Gu Yin nodded: "I guess so. How are you doing over there? How's Grandma? Is she doing alright?"
Gu Le nodded: "Don't worry, we're all fine, we're just a little homesick. I'll go home for a week after this study abroad trip is over!"
The two chatted about everyday things for a while, and then Gu Yin asked about the purpose of the phone call.
"How do you know the person you asked Chu Yan to help?" Gu Yin couldn't understand how Gu Le could know a little kid and a young man.
Gu Le listened quietly for a moment, then got up, closed the door, lay down on the bed, and said softly, "Brother Ji Yang is Brother Yan's assistant. When Brother Yan was reorganizing the Chu family, Brother Ji Yang helped a lot. They are very good brothers. After I was rescued, Brother Ji Yang treated me like his own younger brother and took care of me. He did many things personally. He was like an older brother, giving Brother Yan and me the best warmth. Later, when Brother Yan was going around to worship Buddha and visit temples, Brother Ji Yang was also handling the company's affairs. He is a very good person, but because he was tricked by his mentor, those who knew about it kept mocking him behind his back. He was even more disliked in the international circles. Except for accompanying Brother Yan and me to seek medical treatment abroad, he would not go with Brother Yan on business trips. Because if he was there, those people would make things difficult for Brother Chu. Even though Brother Chu didn't care, he still refused to go abroad."
Now that he has the chance, how could he possibly let the thing that almost ruined Ji Yang happen again?
Gu Yin quieted down; she hadn't expected such a thing to happen.
"Your brother Yan has already arranged for him to return to China and join the Chu family as their assistant after this matter is resolved. After all the twists and turns, he's back to where he started, which is great."
Gu Le laughed: "I was just afraid that Brother Ji Yang might still want to stay abroad, so I didn't say too much to Brother Yan. I only gave Brother Yan an address. After all, times have changed, and people's thoughts may be different now. I didn't expect that they would take a liking to each other. It's really great."
After hanging up the phone, Gu Yin printed out all the materials she had prepared, took them to the principal's office, and submitted them. She would just have to wait for further notice regarding the direct PhD program.
When she got home, she was surprised to see Lan Yan feeding the chickens. "Big brother, did you come back from a mission? Or from the army?"
Before Lan Yan could speak, the chubby clucking chicken raised its big wings at Gu Yin and clucked at her, then looked at Lan Yan and clucked again. Gu Yin could hear the grievance in its tone!
Lan Yan clearly understood as well, and rubbed the chicken's head before looking at Gu Yin: "Tell me, did you bully the chicken?"
Gu Yin: "...It's clearly the one bullying me! It keeps flapping its wings at me and making me suck up dust! And it still has the nerve to complain! I'll pluck all its feathers off!"
"Giggle!!"
The scene was completely silent.
Lan Yan couldn't help but laugh when he saw Gu Yin's disheveled appearance: "Pfft! It's a chicken, don't bother with a chicken!"
Gu Yin snorted coldly: "Heh, one day I'll pluck all its fur off! I'm going to take a shower now!"
After Gu Yin left, the clucking chicken ran over again.
Blue Flame helplessly grabbed its wing and lectured, "That's my sister! How can you bully my sister? Can't you be a real man? How can you bully a girl? Look at how big you are, and look at how small my sister is. Don't you feel bad about bullying her? Don't you feel guilty?"
Clucking Chicken: "..."
That's outrageous! Just because you named me doesn't mean I'm a chicken you can lecture! "Cluck cluck cluck cluck cluck!!"
"Ptooey!! Pfft!! My mouth is full of dirt! Looks like you have a lot of feathers! You should pluck them!" Lan Yan spat out the dust from his mouth as he watched the fat chicken fly away, gritting his teeth and shouting.
After saying that, Lan Yan turned around and saw the clucking chicken sitting there quietly watching. She waved her hand and shouted, "Your husband is too fierce. I'll find you a gentle little chick later!"
Before the clucking chicken could react, a cacophony of clucking erupted from the back of the yard, each cluck louder than the last, sounding like a tirade!
Lan Yan rolled her eyes and went back to her room to wash up!
