Chapter 713: Arrival

Chapter 713: Arrival

Zhou Wansheng sat up straight, tidying his disheveled clothes while looking at the little mink jumping around in Gu Yin's arms, and said with a smile, "It's okay, the situation here is special, you can hold it."

After saying that, he reached out and ruffled the little ferret's head twice, only to be met with a snarl of teeth and a glare from the ferret: "Squeak squeak squeak!!!"

The little sable glared at him while snuggling into Gu Yin's arms.

Gu Yin breathed a sigh of relief upon hearing this, then supported its two front paws with both hands, lifted the little ferret up and held it in her arms, reaching out to tap its nose and saying, "Being so close to humans is not a good habit. You're really brave!"

The little ferret tilted its head: "Squeak~"

After the captain saw that everything was alright, he started the car again.

"This little mink has actually come here many times. The first time it came, it stood guard on the road outside the lake. It didn't leave when people came. No one dared to disturb it or feed it, for fear that it would think all humans were nice and then leave and encounter bad people. So everyone pretended not to see it and kept coming back."

At this point, Zhou Wansheng chuckled and said, "I heard all this from other people. Later, when the captain and I came here, this little ferret kept following us. The higher-ups even asked about it, and I told them that we had met once before, so they didn't bother with it anymore. The little ferret followed us for three days, and then left on the fourth day. We went to look for it, but we couldn't find it. However, we knew that there were troops here, so the poachers didn't dare to come back, and we left it alone."

Upon hearing this, Gu Yin reached out and rubbed its little face; she probably knew the reason.

"Squeak?" The little sable looked at Gu Yin in confusion. When she didn't make a sound, it turned around and sat in her lap, squeaking occasionally.

Seeing this, Zhou Wansheng smiled and continued, "Later, when we left and came back, it came looking for us again and followed us for two or three days before disappearing again. Having learned from the previous experience, we weren't worried. After that, I left a few more times, and each time I came back, it would come over, as if it was looking for something. Today, when I saw you, I finally understood. It was waiting for you! Hahaha, this little guy is really smart."

Gu Yin chuckled, picked it up, buried her face in its soft back, and said with a smile, "We don't have much of a relationship, so why do you remember me? And why are you being so friendly to me? Aren't you afraid I'm a bad person and you won't even be able to keep your fur!"

"Squeak~~!!!"

Gu Yin gently laid the mink down and, as if scratching and rubbing a cat, stroked its entire body until the little guy almost fell asleep.

The car stopped, and Gu Yin looked ahead, quite surprised.

Ahead lay the outer edge of the lake. Gu Yin had originally thought she would see a flat area, since many pieces of equipment needed to be placed here, and the scientists who lived here long-term almost never came down the mountain. Their accommodation, meals, and other living needs all had to be taken care of here, so large-scale excavation was necessary.

What Gu Yin was now in front of was a row of wooden houses three or four meters above the ground! And all of these wooden houses were built next to big trees, with the soil and grass underneath completely undamaged!

In the very center, in the most spacious area, there used to be a small hill, or you could say a stone forest. Now, all the stones are gone, and instead, a huge glass building stands there. From the outside, you can see people dressed in military green and white coats busy inside.

That's getting the hang of it!

"Grandpa, can we go straight there?" Gu Yin pointed to the glass room.

Zhou Wansheng shook his head: "I've never had a chance to get in there. You should be able to, but we'll have to wait for someone to come."

Although Zhou Wansheng can freely enter and exit this area, he cannot enter the laboratory. It's not that they're afraid he'll steal data, but rather that Zhou Wansheng doesn't understand experiments at all. If he goes in and accidentally damages or messes up something, he wouldn't even know why, and that would be a real problem. The experiments here are too important! Those who aren't doing experiments have no idea what the consequences of a missing test tube or misplacing something are! Not only Zhou Wansheng, but anyone who doesn't do experiments here is not allowed to enter without permission from above.

Gu Yin nodded upon hearing this, knowing that they should wait for the person in charge to arrive.

"This must be the world-renowned Comrade Zhou Guyin!"

A deep male voice came from ahead, and Gu Yin looked up.

Three people approached, all wearing white lab coats. However, the one in the middle was also wearing a military uniform underneath his lab coat, and he must have been the one who had just spoken.

Gu Yin didn't recognize any of these three people and had never seen them before, so they must be people whose identities needed to be kept secret.

The three people walked over.

Zhou Wansheng smiled and extended his hand: "Hello, Director Fang, Director Liang, and Director Wang!"

The three shook hands with each other.

Seeing this, Gu Yin stepped forward and said, "Director Fang, Director Liang, Director Wang, hello, I am Zhou Gu Yin."

The one who had just spoken was Director Fang. Seeing this, he smiled and reached out his hand: "I knew you were young, but I didn't know you were so young! You are truly a promising young man!"

Director Liang nodded and shook hands: "The younger generation is truly formidable!"

Director Wang: "There is hope for the country!"

Gu Yin smiled helplessly, "Seniors, you flatter me. I am unworthy of such praise. In your presence, I am merely an apprentice. The nation still depends on you. As for me, I still have much to learn!"

As Gu Yin spoke, her eyes were clear, filled with humility and sincerity. It seemed that she meant what she said, and Director Fang nodded inwardly. His earlier worries about her becoming arrogant and complacent after achieving such success were unfounded; she was a good child.

“We know your abilities and achievements, so there’s no need to be modest. Come on, don’t stand here, come to my office and sit down, and we can take care of some paperwork while we’re at it.”

Gu Yin nodded upon hearing this, and after taking only two steps, the little sable jumped out of her arms.

Gu Yin was startled: "Little Mink!!"

Zhou Wansheng reassured her, "It's alright, go ahead. Look in that direction, it should be heading to my temporary room. I'll go check on it. Don't worry."

Seeing that the little ferret had indeed stopped on the wooden house, Gu Yin breathed a sigh of relief and looked at the three directors who had stopped, saying apologetically, "Sorry for taking up everyone's time, let's continue."

Director Fang shook his head with a smile: "We all know this little thing. It comes here from time to time. We originally thought it was just curious about this place. After all, it's so young, it's not surprising that it would be curious. But it turns out it was waiting for you! If we had known it was waiting for you, we would have called you over earlier!"

Gu Yin said helplessly, "When I first came here, I encountered poachers and had some contact with the little ferret. I didn't expect it would still remember me."

Director Wang also laughed and said, "It's rare to find something like this; it has a special quality."
