Chapter 100: Don't Fall in Love Too Early!
Seeing that the water was steaming, Gu Hua reached out and touched it. The temperature was just right. She moved the firewood to another stove, got up and left the kitchen. She didn't see Gu Yin in the yard.
He called out, "Ayin, the water's warm enough! Come take a bath! You didn't go into the toilet again, did you?! If you do, you'll have to take your medicine!"
Hearing Gu Hua's voice, Gu Yin hurriedly came out: "Coming, coming! I'll take a bucket in first, can you help me boil some more? I'm afraid this stuff won't wash out! It's too dirty!"
Gu Hua nodded: "Would you like me to get you a dried loofah to scrub your back?"
Gu Yin: "...No need! Thank you!" After saying that, she took the clothes that had been dried from the bamboo pole and went into the bathroom.
Gu Hua couldn't help but laugh: "Then I won't bury the ashes of the remaining fire. I'll keep adding water for you. Let me know when you're done washing, and I'll bring you some water!"
"knew!"
Gu Hua poured water into the pot, stirred up the charcoal fire under the stove, and then sat back down in the courtyard.
The old lady returned from the convenience store, followed by Gu Shu and Gu Le. The two had gone to the river to catch shrimp early in the morning, and the three of them happened to meet at the door.
"Ah Yin! Still have diarrhea? I'm back with the medicine!" The old lady thought Gu Yin was still in the toilet and called out from the yard.
"She's not pooping anymore, she's taking a shower!" Gu Hua stood up and pointed to the bathroom.
The old lady nodded upon hearing this: "That's good. I wonder what you ate that made you go to the toilet all morning? Did you feel unwell after eating last night and this morning?"
The three shook their heads.
The old woman said in confusion, "That's strange."
"Ah Hua, get me some water!" Gu Yin looked at the mud that had been washed away and felt so tired. Luckily, it wasn't hard to wash, otherwise she would have had to scrub her skin off!
Upon hearing this, Gu Hua went into the kitchen and took a full bucket of water to the bathroom.
Gu Shu put down the bucket of river shrimp and, while washing his hands, called out, "Did you drink the well water directly? I've seen A-Yin often drink well water directly! Did she catch a chill?"
It's been hot lately, and the Gu family children always draw water from the well when they come back from outside. It's icy cold and sweet, and Gu Yin has drunk it several times.
The old lady nodded: "Maybe! From now on, none of you are allowed to drink anything cold! You must all drink boiled water! Understand?!"
"knew!"
Gu Le poured the river shrimp into the basin and looked at the old lady: "Grandma, we'll have river shrimp stir-fried with chives for lunch!"
The old lady looked at it and saw that it was quite a lot, so she nodded: "That's quite a lot. Make a plate of stir-fried river shrimp with chives, and another plate of stir-fried river shrimp with soybeans. Don't go out this afternoon, remember to study!"
Gu Shu knew that this was directed at him, and said with a smile, "I know, Grandma. Ayin said we need to balance work and rest! Otherwise we'll go crazy from studying!"
Gu Yin had just finished showering when she heard Gu Shu's words. She said irritably, "I just told you that you could get up and walk around after reading for a long time to relieve your fatigue. When did I tell you to go shrimp catching all morning?"
Gu Shu looked over with an embarrassed smile, then was completely stunned: "My god, is this a fairy? She's so white she's practically glowing! You only had your injury healed for a week or two, and you've already become like this?!"
Gu Yin felt a pang of nervousness. Had things changed a lot?
"Grandma! I want to drink soup every day! I want to be fair-skinned too! I've gotten so much darker this summer! When school starts, all the kids in the city are fair-skinned, and I'm all dark-skinned. Will people laugh at me?" Gu Shu grabbed the old lady and started to whine.
When the old lady saw how fair-skinned Ayin was, she felt something was different, but upon closer inspection, she realized it was still the same, just much fairer. However, Ayin had been recuperating from her injury and hadn't gone out much, so she must have gotten fairer from the rest of her life.
"As the old saying goes, a girl changes a lot as she grows up! Ah Yin, you've grown up! What are you doing standing in the sun? Come here, you've finally gotten fair-skinned, don't get tanned again!" The old lady beckoned Gu Yin over.
Then, looking at Gu Shu with disdain, she said, "You won't get whiter from eating this, you'll just get fat! Go back and work in the fields with your grandpa! How can a young man like you grow a belly!"
Gu Yin sat down, and Gu Hua reached out and touched her arm, exclaiming, "Skin as smooth as jade is nothing compared to this! I won't go out anymore, I'll take care of it too!"
Gu Le ran over and snuggled into Gu Yin's arms, beaming, "Sister Xiangxiang! Sister, you're such a fairy!"
Gu Yin felt embarrassed by their compliments.
When his family returned home that evening, they showered him with praise. After dinner, Gu Qinglang even asked Gu Yin to go out for a talk.
When Gu Yin came out, she saw him standing under the tree, so she went over and asked, "Father, what's wrong?"
Gu Qinglang turned around, smiled, scratched his head, and said a little embarrassedly, "Well, well, our goal is a high school in the city. The third year of junior high is a very important year, so we can't be careless, you know?"
Gu Yin was puzzled, but still nodded: "I know."
Looking into his daughter's clear eyes, Gu Qinglang realized he had been too anxious. He took a few deep breaths and nodded, "It's alright then. Go back and get some rest."
Gu Yin: "...Just say what you have to say! I feel bad seeing you holding it in!"
Gu Qinglang looked around, then whispered, "You're growing more and more beautiful, and Dad is very happy. But if any male classmates express any strange ideas to you, you have to tell Dad, and Dad will help you solve it! Got it?"
Gu Yin: "...You're not talking about puppy love, are you?"
Gu Qinglang blinked but didn't say anything.
Gu Yin was both amused and exasperated: "Don't worry! I won't date early! I won't even think about marriage until I'm 30! Right now, all I care about is studying!"
Hearing this, Gu Qinglang became worried again and hurriedly said, "It doesn't have to be so late. You can still date in college. Date a few, compare them, and find the best one!"
"You, Gu Qinglang! Instead of sleeping, what nonsense are you spouting to my granddaughter? Is this the kind of thing for her to hear at this age?!" The old lady had just come out of the chicken coop when she heard her second son talking about this and that. Was this the kind of thing for A-Yin's age to hear?
Gu Qinglang and Gu Yin were both startled when they saw the old lady dart out from the side with a tree branch in her hand. Gu Yin quickly ran back into the house, telling her father to pray for his own good fortune.
Gu Qinglang raised his hand to block the old lady's branch, and said anxiously, "Mom! Mom! Please let me explain! I was just worried that some bad kids at school would harass Ayin, so I reminded her! Really!"
Gu Yin looked out the window and saw that her father was being chased and beaten by her grandmother again, without knowing what her father had said.
Seeing Gu Yin laughing by the window, Gu Hua asked in confusion, "What's wrong? What are you laughing at?"
Gu Yin walked back to the bedside, picked up a book and flipped through it: "My dad did something and was chased and beaten by Grandma, hahaha."
Gu Hua: "...Okay, I don't understand the adult world, I'll just read a book!"
