Chapter 806: There's a giant snake!

"Death Valley, also known as the Gates of Hell, has beautiful scenery, with snow-capped mountains and lakes, like a fairyland. But the more beautiful something is, the more dangerous it often is. The same is true here. You can't drive inside; you have to walk. See that snow-capped mountain? We have to cross it before the sun goes down, otherwise it will be even more dangerous."

Everyone was ready to go. Bai Wuwen gazed into the distance and said in a deep voice.

Gu Yin looked at the towering snow-capped mountains in the distance and pinched her brow: "Could we get some ski equipment? If we walk, how long would it take?"

Bai Wuwen shook his head: "There are skiing facilities, but the terrain inside is quite complicated and could easily cause a series of deadly problems. Walking is the safest option. Let's go, you walk in the middle."

After taking only two steps, Bai Wuwen turned back and asked, "Do you know how to use this?" He pointed to the weapon at his waist.

Gu Yin nodded: "First place in target practice during military training, no problem with moving targets either."

"Goodness, that's good!" Bai Wuwen said, then had his men hand Gu Yin two guns.

After Gu Yin finished getting ready, he took the lead: "Let's go! Let's set off!"

The vast snowfield was barren, with nothing growing on it. As far as the eye could see, there were only exposed black rocks. The further they went in, the colder it got. However, the green clothes they wore were quite effective at keeping warm. They were like snowsuits, but they were close-fitting and thin. They didn't feel cold at all. If it weren't for the fact that their ears, fingers, and eyes could feel the cold, Gu Yin would have thought that the snow was fake.

The outer paths were easy to walk on, and you could see animal droppings and skeletons everywhere. But after walking for an hour, in the ankle-deep snow, there were no traces of any animals left.

"Is this inside Death Valley?" Gu Yin asked, looking at the river not far away.

Everyone stopped in their tracks. Bai Wuwen took two steps forward and shook his head: "It's only considered complete after we cross the river. You and the commander rest here for a bit, and we'll get the inflatable boats." After saying that, he and the others took out inflatable boats from their bags and started inflating them.

While they were busy, Gu Yin took out the snacks she had put in her spatial storage and started eating. These snacks were given to her by Bai Wuwen when she set off in the morning. Gu Yin was worried that they would turn into frozen pastries if she put them in her bag, so she took the opportunity to put some in her virtual ring. She was a little hungry at the moment, so she took them out to eat. They were soft and warm, so at least they didn't freeze her teeth. She ate them while observing the riverbank.

The river here must be formed from the melting snow on the mountaintop. The water is crystal clear and doesn't look very deep. The river is calm with no rapids. It is about fifty meters wide, and it wouldn't be an exaggeration to call it a heavenly pool. The area around the river is also unusually calm, almost unnaturally so.

"Is there some prehistoric behemoth in here?" Gu Yin asked doubtfully, recalling the reports she had seen online in her previous life.

The commander, who was smoking, choked upon hearing this: "Cough cough cough cough!! Cough cough!!"

Gu Yin quickly went over to calm him down: "Take a break! We still have time, no rush! Nobody's stopping you from smoking, you've already put the ash in the bag, the steps are correct! No need to rush!"

Commander: "...Ahem, what nonsense! Ahem! I'm shocked by what you said! What prehistoric behemoth! You should watch less TV dramas! I don't know what's going on in your head all day long? There's no behemoth in there, but there's a blind giant snake!"

Gu Yin: "..." Well, she was overthinking it again!

However, "A giant snake? How big? Is it in the lake?" Gu Yin looked curiously towards the middle of the lake, but the surface was completely still, not even a breeze! Not a ripple!

After Bai Wuwen and the others finished setting up the kayak, they nodded when they heard Gu Yin's question: "Yes, we've been back and forth many times, but we've only met twice. We go our own way, and it sleeps its own way, so we don't disturb each other. Don't worry."

Gu Yin nodded upon hearing this: "Are you really blind?"

"It went blind in its left eye. I heard it was from being attacked by our army. The first time we went there, we were transporting a lot of goods, which woke that thing up. It came out and capsized our boat, causing a lot of equipment to sink and become unusable. That's not all; it also swept away several soldiers. We had no choice but to fight it. In the end, we subdued it and it sank to the bottom of the lake and never came up again. I came here last summer and saw it floating on the surface. It was very long, about ten meters, and its head was thicker than our waist! But it didn't attack us. As soon as it saw us, it sank into the water. Another time, we took some people there at night and saw it eating something. We don't know what it was eating, but it ignored us. Although it's docile now, we still don't dare to relax. We always carry some insect repellent in the inflatable boat. It won't come out if it smells that. We've already scanned and explored this lake. Besides that big snake, there are only some glacial fish. We don't need to worry too much."

"I see," Gu Yin nodded.

Once everyone boarded the dinghy, Bai Wuwen pressed a button on it and then affixed a talisman. The dinghy then sped off.

The closer you get to the center of the lake, the deeper it becomes, and the water turns black, its bottom unseen.

Gu Yin reached out and touched the surface of the lake. When she picked her hand up, it was icy cold. "This water is really freezing."

Upon seeing this, the commander laughed and said, "Everyone says that those who come down from the glacier are naturally icy. Some of the soldiers here even bathe in the lake to strengthen their bodies!"

Gu Yin exclaimed in admiration, then put on her gloves. She couldn't stand the ice; it was too piercing!

I had just put on my gloves when I saw fish swarming around me.

“Blue fish are coming, not just one or two, but a whole group,” Gu Yin called out, frowning.

She knew these fish were no ordinary fish; they were even more ferocious than piranhas!

"Host, something is swimming rapidly towards us in the lake!" As soon as 001 finished speaking, Gu Yin saw movement on the water.

"The giant snake is here too!" She quickly drew her pistol and stared at the lake.
