Chapter 343 Entering the Training Camp
In November, before heading to Beijing, Gu Yin participated in the preliminary round of the information technology competition. This time, there was no written exam; it was all computer-based, and the participants also included junior high school students.
Those questions were really easy for Gu Yin, such as the "Ah Mao's Experiment" and "Inverted Pyramid" that are commonly found online.
It would be very time-consuming to calculate this, but with a computer, it's just a matter of applying logic and formulas. Gu Yin finished one question in less than a few minutes, and after the program ran without errors, she moved on to the next one.
After completing the information science course, you can submit it on your computer and leave, so Gu Yin doesn't have to wait too long.
After finishing the test, Gu Yin didn't linger or even wait for the results. She packed her luggage and, led by her biology teacher, headed to Beijing.
Because she had to take an information technology exam, she didn't participate in activities such as the opening ceremony of the winter camp.
After she arrived in Beijing, her biology teacher handed her over to Meng Yu, who had come to pick her up, and they returned to Jiang City.
After getting on the bus, Gu Yin looked at Meng Yu and asked, "Where will the training camp be held?"
"At the gymnasium, everything has been switched to intensive training mode. There will be a test this afternoon, and the teachers will get a basic understanding of you based on your scores. After that, there will be two weeks of training, followed by an exam. Those who pass will stay, and those who don't will be eliminated. It's very brutal, completely different from the provincial and national competitions. This is a race against time. If you relax even a little, you'll be eliminated. So I hope you take it seriously. Also, there will be 50 of you in the same class. As for accommodation, it will be four people per dormitory room, but you're late, so I don't know how many people you'll be in yet."
Gu Yin nodded: "Don't worry, I will try my best."
Meng Yu patted her on the shoulder: "I believe you. By the way, as for the national chemistry competition, there shouldn't be any major problems. Just make sure you have the right attitude and let the training teachers see your efforts and results. Otherwise, if any teacher is unwilling, it might be difficult for you to leave the competition."
Gu Yin knew that she needed to be humble, low-key, and diligent.
The car stopped at the stadium. Gu Yin got out and followed Meng Yu to register. After that, she received an ID, which was a badge that she had to wear inside the stadium. Otherwise, she would be kicked out as an outsider and would get into trouble. It was a bit like a school badge.
After the formalities were completed, Meng Yu could no longer enter. Gu Yin hung up the sign, said goodbye to the other party, and then turned and entered the venue.
The venue was large and divided into several areas. With the help of the staff, Gu Yin took her luggage to her accommodation.
"Teacher, this is the last student. Which room does she live in?" The staff member led Gu Yin to the dormitory entrance and asked the gatekeeper who was on duty inside.
"ID card."
Gu Yin handed her ID to the other party. After verification, the aunt pointed to the last dormitory room: "That's the only one left. It has toiletries and everything. There's a schedule on the back of the door. You can take a look yourself when you get there."
After taking the key and thanking the staff, Gu Yin and the staff walked towards the last room.
There were 50 students, only 21 of whom were girls. The first five rooms were already full, so the last room was for Gu Yin alone, and Gu Yin was quite satisfied with it.
"If you need anything in your daily life, just ask the dormitory auntie. If you have any questions about your studies, just ask your teacher. Your teacher will be here for the assessment this afternoon. If there are no other questions, I'll be leaving now."
Gu nodded: "Thank you for your hard work."
After the staff left, Gu Yin closed the door. There were four bunk beds in the room. Gu Yin chose one of the innermost ones, put down her luggage, and then checked the schedule.
Classes start at 8:30 AM and end at 11:30 AM (theoretical classes). Lab classes begin at 2:30 PM and end at 4:30 PM. There is one day off per week. Evenings are free, but students are not allowed to leave the gymnasium. The dining area is to the right of the dormitory, very close and time-saving.
Gu Yin checked the time; it was already eleven o'clock, and the cafeteria should be preparing to open for lunch.
Gu Yin took out her things, arranged them neatly, washed her face, grabbed her keys, and went out.
As soon as she closed the door, someone came out of the dormitory next door. Gu Yin looked over and saw four girls. Gu Yin smiled and nodded, then went down the steps and walked towards the door.
"My God, how beautiful!"
"I heard a student was late, could it be her?"
"It's her. The dorms ahead of us are all full, but the one next to us is empty. She just came out of there, so she must be the one who was late."
“I’ve heard several rumors. One is that she went to participate in another competition, so she was late. Another is that she’s a nepotism case and doesn’t care about the competition at all, so she forgot the time. A third is that she just came back from abroad and is planning to come here to get a degree so that she can be directly admitted to Qingdao University or Huazhong University of Science and Technology. There are many other rumors, and I don’t know which one is true.”
Gu Yin knew nothing about what the people behind her were saying, but even if she did, she wouldn't bother to explain. People's perceptions are subjective. If someone initially categorizes you in one way, they won't categorize you in another way because of your explanation, even if they are wrong. Only when you are strong enough to defeat your opponent and stand in a place beyond their reach will they change their limited perceptions!
Wherever there are people, there is a world of intrigue and conflict, something Gu Yin has always known.
She came here to learn, with the goal of entering the national team. There are 50 people, but only 4 can make it. The competition is extremely fierce and brutal. Only those who have the last laugh are the winners. So, Gu Yin never thought about making friends or getting along amicably. As long as they don't get involved, everyone can do as they please.
The canteen is large, but there aren't many people there yet, mainly because the physics training team students haven't arrived yet; it won't start until the middle of the month.
After getting her food, Gu Yin found an empty table and ate alone. In November, Beijing was already getting cold. The food was freshly prepared, and she felt warm all over after eating.
Back in her dorm, Gu Yin walked around for a while to digest her food, then washed up and went to bed.
As soon as the wake-up bell rang in the afternoon, Gu Yin quickly got up, washed up, and after getting ready, she took her pen and followed the others to the classroom.
The classroom isn't very big; it can seat just 50 people, with each person at a separate desk.
Gu Yin sat at the first table in the first row near the door. A short while later, an elderly man wearing glasses and with a serious expression walked in.
The other person was holding an exam paper, which was probably the exam paper that would be used for the test later.
Standing on the podium, Li Lifang raised his eyes and, seeing that there were no empty seats below, nodded: "I am your instructor for this training camp, Li Lifang. Nothing else matters. You just need to know that I am your teacher. Let me first explain the rules of the training camp to you."
The students below all fell silent.
"The 50 students who have come here are all top talents who can be directly admitted to Qingdao University and Huazhong University of Science and Technology. I don't know what your purpose is in coming here. From now on, you only have one purpose! That is to win glory for the country in international competitions! If you have the mentality that you have already been admitted, it doesn't matter whether you can enter the national team or not, and you can just play around at worst! Then I advise you to get out of here now! We don't need students with this attitude!"
After Li Lifang finished speaking, there was a moment of silence.
Gu Yin could clearly sense that the students had become quieter, and even their breathing had become more cautious.
"This training camp isn't a school where you have three years to gradually improve. Once you're here, you can only keep progressing. If you take even one step back, you'll be packing your bags and leaving! Alright, I won't waste any more words. Do the test, do it seriously, and show your true abilities. No matter how much you know or how many you can do, write it all down. This test will be the foundation for the learning plan I'm developing for you. If the foundation isn't solid, the building can't be built!"
After I finished speaking, the other party handed out the test papers.
Gu Yin received the test paper and looked at it. The questions included content from both the provincial and national civil service exams, only the questions were different. There were also some question types that had never been seen in any previous exams, making it two levels more difficult than the national exam!
After Gu Yin finished answering the two questions, she looked up at the left side of the classroom and found that many students were frowning and scratching their heads, clearly stumped.
"Cough cough."
Li Lifang coughed from the stage. Gu Yin looked over and saw that he glanced at her and then tapped the table with two fingers, obviously telling Gu Yin to write the test paper and not to daydream.
Gu Yin smiled and lowered her head to continue writing.
