Chapter 12: The Source of Magic

The city guards already had an absolute advantage in numbers and equipment, and their morale was greatly boosted after Lann joined the battlefield. They almost annihilated the bandits with overwhelming momentum.

In the end, only the seriously injured but not dead bandits were left lying on the ground groaning weakly.

Lann followed the sound and approached the seriously injured robber. He cut the victim with his knife and earned another experience point.

The deputy captain wiped the cold sweat from his forehead and walked forward. He was really scared to death when Lann rushed out just now.

"My Lord Earl, please go and have a rest. Leave the cleaning of the battlefield to us."

"No, I have to do it." Lann said firmly, "and I have to do it from now on."

The deputy captain was so choked that he suddenly felt like he couldn't speak.

After saying this, Lann shouted to the soldier on the other side who had discovered the seriously injured enemy and wanted to finish him off:

"All of you, leave this place alone. Go count the casualties and take care of your injured companions. If you have extra people, go count the harvest!"

Seeing Lann quickly stepping forward and slashing another robber with a knife, the two soldiers who were cleaning up the situation whispered to each other:

"Our Lord Earl...is he enjoying it too much? I'm a little scared."

"Why do you think so? Shouldn't he be considerate of us and give us priority in rescuing and caring for the wounded?"

"Now that you put it that way..."

"And he led the charge. I had only heard that the Earl was the new tournament champion, but I never thought he would be so brave. I had only heard of knights fighting against many enemies alone in poems before..."

The two warriors looked at each other and said, "It's a Lannister indeed!"

At the same time, a line of translucent subtitles suddenly appeared in front of Lann's eyes, accompanied by a sound like a holy sigh in his ears:

[Mission - City Defense Iron Guard - Part 1 - Completed]

【City Defense Iron Guard 2】:

[The training of blood is far more profound than sweat. This may help to quickly form a qualified army, but it is still a long way from being a true iron army. Many things are more important than training, such as cohesion or faith.]

The experience of more than ten bandits plus the completion of this series of tasks directly helped Lann reach the next level!

Without any hesitation, he added the extra skill points to [Unmovable as a Mountain], and the skill description became -

[Unmovable]: Reduces damage taken when dodging by 60%. Increases adrenaline poison by +3%. (3/5)

After adding skills, the situation in the task bar attracted Lan's attention. The bandit camp was destroyed, the training task was completed, but the bandit suppression task was not completed?

Why is this happening? Did someone slip through the net? Or is it because there is more than one bandit camp?

Wow, there are already thirty or forty people in this camp. If there are more people, we can form a small rebel army, which is enough to attack a small town.

Looking around, there were still two bandits who hadn't finished off the enemy wailing on the ground. Fortunately, they upgraded quickly, otherwise they would probably be dead.

Lann waved his hand and called over two soldiers to tie up the seriously injured robber, and told them to keep him alive for interrogation later. The deputy captain came forward to report the battle damage.

"My Lord Earl, I have taken inventory. This time, a dozen of our brothers were slightly injured, but they are not serious. Only three soldiers died, which is a very good casualty ratio."

The deputy captain's disapproving attitude made Lann frown immediately.

"With so many of us and such good equipment, why did three people still die?"

Seeing that Lan seemed a little angry, the deputy captain hurriedly explained: "These are extremely vicious villains, and there are always veterans among them. Our people are all new recruits, and there are always people who forget to dodge when they see the oncoming axes.

The sword has no eyes, my Lord Earl."

Lan thought for a moment and asked, "How much is the compensation for the casualties?"

The deputy captain reported a number far lower than Lann had imagined, but for those soldiers it was almost nothing.

Lan En thought for a moment and asked again, "How much did we gain from this bandit suppression?"

The deputy captain reported a figure that was far higher than the soldiers' income, and was almost nothing compared to Lan's wealth.

According to the old practice of nobles leading troops to suppress bandits, all the spoils would become the private property of the leading officers. The soldiers' gains could only depend on how much slipped through the nobles' fingers.

Or soldiers can choose to earn some gray income or even "bloody income" during the war. This is why the poor in this world see officers and soldiers as monsters.

This also provides business for civilian mercenaries and monster hunters such as demon hunters.

Lann looked at the soldiers who were bandaging the wounded, turned to the deputy captain and said, "Distribute the captured items among everyone. Give more to the brothers who died. You know what to do."

The deputy captain was surprised by the decision, and only nodded heavily and left after Lann repeated it.

Then he heard the soldiers cheering again, which made Lann feel much better, even more so than the joy of his promotion. He walked to his horse and stroked its mane, causing it to snort comfortably.

"Lord Lannister."

The deputy captain's voice suddenly sounded behind him. Lan turned around and saw that the other party was holding a box in both hands, bending slightly and handing it to him.

"Didn't I say that everything should be divided?"

"Of course, we dare not disobey your order." The deputy captain whispered, "But no one dares to take this thing."

Lan En frowned and raised his hand to take the box. It felt heavy and cold. It was a box made of wood wrapped in some kind of metal that Lan En couldn't name. There were many strange and harmonious patterns carved on it.

"This thing was placed in their leader's tent, wrapped in several layers of sheepskin."

There was a small buckle on the box, which was deflated. There was probably a lock on it, but it was obviously pried open. Lan opened the box, and inside lay a fist-sized transparent crystal, wrapped in red velvet and emitting a faint glow.

Lan was stunned.

The deputy captain looked up and glanced at Lan's stunned expression, then understood what was happening and smiled triumphantly.

"We really can't divide this thing, so we just wanted to show it to you. And according to your order, we should divide it according to the merits of the battle, so you should also get a share."

"I have seen crystals and diamonds of this quality before. Lords and ladies all like them. Even those mysterious sorcerers study them."

"This kind of thing is not what we are supposed to have, so I thought you would like it."

He kept talking, and a translucent prompt had already popped up in front of Lan's eyes.

[Discover the source of magic power, absorb it to gain skill points. ]

"Of course." Lan nodded. "Of course."
