Chapter 71 Water Ghost: Is it great to be rich?

Water ghosts look like corpses fished out of the bottom of a pond, with mucus and mud oozing out of their pores, emitting a sour smell of decay. Humans often mistakenly believe that water ghosts are created by lost travelers who fall into the mud, children who swim too far from the shore, or drunken farmers who fall into the swamp and drown.

This is of course not the case, and like most monster rumors, humankind’s understanding of water ghosts is completely wrong.

Most of what humans know about the world is wrong, but they don't realize it.

Today, the water ghosts seem to have realized their misunderstanding of the world.

They always thought that food was fished from the water, dug from the ground, or taken from the two-legged beasts on the road.

And today, food—fell from the sky!

With two "bangs", the two sheep that were bleating in the air stopped all sound and fell into a large pool of meat paste at the bottom of the valley.

The water ghosts who were having fun on the river bank became even happier when they saw this. They swarmed over like piranhas smelling blood, and devoured the meat paste on the ground without any precautions. From time to time, a few water ghosts who were diving deep in the river surfaced to join in the feast.

Thank you for the gift of nature!

Lann and his group were lying on the cliff just above these water ghosts, and they were throwing the sheep down.

At this viewing distance, a normal person can only see small blue and green things the size of a finger rushing into a mass of red stuff, and then dyeing themselves red.

However, with the help of magic props, Lann and Geralt could clearly see the water ghosts devouring flesh, gnawing on sheep horns, and even swallowing wool.

If there are evil spirits like "starving ghosts" in this world, everyone in the following pile will have to change.

Lann looked away and covered his mouth. He had just seen a few water ghosts fighting over an unprocessed large intestine and eating it with great relish.

Geralt poured a bottle of potion into his mouth and looked for a while before he said to Lann with half-black pupils and eye sockets: "Most of the water ghosts lurking in the water have come out, but there are still many that have not come out. In this way, we still can't dive in and explore the ruins."

Lann drank some water to suppress his nausea: "But at least this method is effective, right?"

Geralt nodded.

"Well, let's set up camp here today. We may have to stay here for a few days." Lann turned around and ordered, and took another sip of water. "Also, you don't need to prepare my lunch today."

The soldiers had already prepared for a protracted war before they came out, and had already brought tools for setting up camp.

People like demon hunters and druids who are used to sleeping in the open have no objection to camping.

A group of people gathered around the campfire to maintain their equipment and rest. Sword took over House's job to feed Black Wind, but Black Wind seemed to want to come over and be fed by Lann.

Geralt seemed to have something to talk to the druid about, and the druid happened to be very interested in Mossak.

Lann thought this person must be a fan or something. At this point in time, Mossak already had supporters within the Druids.

The day passed quickly.

On the second day, Lan and his team threw three sheep from the cliff. The water ghosts seemed to have their own communication system. The water ghosts who had a full meal yesterday spread the news of the feast, so all the water ghosts at the bottom of the river came out today.

They danced around the red sand with blood on their faces: nature's gifts have increased!

They were so densely packed that they looked like a large group of ants, making the people on the cliff feel numb.

The druid sat on the cliff to rest. He had transported all the cattle and sheep thrown down from the village far away. He sighed helplessly, "This is the first time I've opened a portal to do something like this."

Lann asked worriedly, "Do you... feel disgusted by our use of cattle and sheep as bait or slaughtering water ghosts? Do you think they are too pitiful? If you don't want to get involved, I can understand."

The druid glanced at Lann in surprise and said, "When did the world's misunderstanding of us druids become more serious? Not to mention that the sacrifices were originally livestock raised by humans, and the water ghosts we killed were alien species teleported by the wizard. Our behavior is completely in line with the teachings of nature.

Even the most extreme druids are just obsessed with those monsters that are about to become extinct, but water ghosts are too——"

A look of disgust appeared on the druid's face.

Lan nodded thoughtfully.

On the third day, four cows were thrown down.

The herder who was selling cattle and sheep that the druid visited was smiling happily.

The situation today was very special. Before Lann and the others threw the bait down, the water ghosts in the river gathered at the bottom of the valley at the same time in advance, singing and dancing around the red land that was soaked in blood yesterday, waiting for food to fall from the sky.

In a sense, this is also a kind of wisdom.

Lann put down the crystal bird skull and handed it to Geralt beside him: "Are they all out?"

Geralt squinted through the eyes of the skull to observe the shadows in the river and confirmed, "They are all out."

Lan nodded, almost there.

On the fourth day, no cattle or sheep were thrown down.

The water ghosts danced in the valley for a day, felt confused for a day, and were hungry for a day.

The plan was successful, but Lann was a little confused. He asked Geralt, "These water ghosts... can't they hunt by themselves? If we don't throw them down, they will really just sit there and wait for a day."

Geralt was silent for a while and said, "Maybe he needs to starve for another two days before he can react. To be honest, this is the first time I've seen such a stupid water ghost."

The druid at the side added: "They are probably raised by warlocks in underground rivers or some place with plenty of food. They have been breeding for several or even dozens of generations. They have no knowledge of the outside world, so it's normal for them to be a little stupid."

The water ghosts were left hungry for a whole day, which was so stupid that most people would feel guilty about it.

Fortunately, Lann is not an ordinary person.

On the fifth day, Lan and his team bought four cows and three sheep.

They first roasted one of the cows and ate it to fill their stomachs.

Then they gutted the other few and took out their internal organs. Just like filling spices into the stomachs of roasted cattle and sheep, they stuffed large amounts of leaves and hay into the bodies of these livestock as a buffer, almost filling them up.

Then, they took out the alchemy backpack straps and pulled out [Dragon Dream] and [Dancing Star].

Thus, the six cattle and sheep turned into six flesh and blood bombs.

Lann dispersed the team and only left two people on the top of the cliff to throw the cattle and sheep down. The others slowly moved down to the valley and hid in the bushes on both sides.

If any water ghost runs into the river, they will come out to stop and kill it, making sure not a single one is left alive.
