Chapter 1080 Someone is following Shu Yu
Shu Yu stayed at the restaurant for about an hour before leaving, and even packed a portion of pastries to go.
As she walked out of the restaurant, she glanced at the beggar in the corner, shook her head, sighed, and said, "How pitiful."
The waiter who saw her out sighed, "Yes, it's rare to meet such a kind person as you today. You gave so much reward money, so we can finally have a good meal."
He'll finally get a decent meal. He'd finally managed to win the girl's favor with his words, and she rewarded him with... half a tael of silver. It wasn't as much as that kind-hearted beggar, but it was still worth it.
Shu Yu looked away, picked up the pastries in her hand, and walked away without looking back.
She moved at a leisurely pace, seemingly still curiously observing her surroundings. Occasionally, she would stop to look at something interesting or fun, and if she found something she liked, she would buy it.
These things included not only food and toys, but she even bought a strangely shaped bowl that she found interesting.
Therefore, they walked very slowly, and only returned to the inn with great regret when they could no longer carry their things.
When Shu Yu reached the counter, she greeted the shopkeeper and asked, "Has my maid returned yet?"
The shopkeeper shook his head. "Not yet."
Shu Yu frowned. "They've been gone for far too long. I wanted to buy some more things for her to carry. What if they haven't come back by the time the city gates close?"
She muttered a couple of things to herself, then picked up her things and went back to her room.
Not long after she returned to her room, a man in gray came over, leaned against the counter, and asked the shopkeeper about Shu Yu's background in a roundabout way.
The innkeeper said that the girl had a maidservant with her. The maidservant seemed to be from Tianning County. As soon as she arrived at the inn, she went to pay respects to her father outside the city.
The girl was generous; she even gave her money to buy incense and paper money. After the maid left, she went out shopping.
The man in gray nodded upon hearing this, left the inn, and after many twists and turns, returned to South Fifth Street. He entered the restaurant where Shu Yu had eaten pastries and said to the innkeeper, "I've inquired, and it's true that the young lady sent her personal maid back to pay respects to her father. The maid hasn't returned since leaving the city, and she said she would leave Tianning County first thing tomorrow morning."
The shopkeeper nodded. "That makes sense, it matches what she said earlier. Keep an eye on her and see if she leaves tomorrow morning."
"yes."
The man in gray returned to the outside of the inn, huddled in a corner, and stared at the inn's entrance.
As dusk approached, Yingxi returned in his carriage.
Her eyes were a little swollen, but she seemed to be in good spirits.
Not long after she entered the inn, she came out again with Shu Yu.
The two found a restaurant to eat at, and after eating, they bought some things and then went back to the inn to rest.
The next morning, Shu Yu and Ying Xi loaded their bags onto the carriage, checked out of the hotel, and drove straight to the city gate.
After watching them leave the city gate and not return for quite some time, the man in gray yawned and went back to the tavern on South Fifth Street. He whispered to the innkeeper, "They left at dawn."
The shopkeeper nodded. "It seems they really were just passing by." It had nothing to do with Meng Pei.
The shopkeeper glanced expressionlessly at the old beggar at the door before continuing with his work.
