Chapter 1098 Acquitted
Shu Yu and Meng Yunzheng exchanged a glance, and the latter nodded. Shu Yu immediately stood up, went over to open the door, and then stood behind Lord Jing.
Lord Jing had already neatly stuffed the case file back into his clothes, and looked up at the person who came in, "What is it?"
"My lord, this is new evidence in the Gong Xiao case. Please take a look."
Upon hearing this, Lord Jing narrowed his eyes, and Meng Yunzheng couldn't help but raise his head as well.
Shu Yu sensed something unusual about the two of them.
Sure enough, as soon as the person delivering the case file left, Lord Jing stood up and said in a low voice, "Let's begin the operation. I'll have Gong Ya arrested and brought to justice. We'll close the case before noon and release you."
Meng Yunzheng nodded and said to Shu Yu, "You stay with Lord Jing for now. I'll be out this afternoon, don't worry."
Shu Yu's eyes lit up slightly. "Okay."
Lord Jing ordered Meng Yunzheng to be taken out again, while he himself went to the Dali Temple to hear the case.
Once outside the cell and seeing no one around, Lord Jing whispered to Shu Yu, "If nothing unexpected happens, Gong Qiu's affair will be exposed to the Emperor this afternoon. Before that, we need to settle Gong Xiao's case first. Otherwise, if Gong Qiu gets into trouble, the Emperor won't care about Gong Xiao anymore, and he doesn't know how long he'll have to stay in this cell."
Shu Yu understood, and the two quickly arrived at the courtroom.
Gong Ya had already been captured and brought back, accompanied by Madam Gong.
As soon as Madam Gong arrived, she shouted, "Why hasn't the case been closed yet? Why hasn't Gong Xiao been convicted?"
Lord Jing sat in the courtroom, with Shu Yu standing behind him. Seeing Madam Gong's crazed expression, Shu Yu narrowed her eyes.
"Quiet." Lord Jing slammed his gavel, and Madam Gong gritted her teeth but eventually calmed down.
Lord Jing then began to investigate the case. He questioned the suspect very quickly, as time was of the essence and he did not want to waste any more time on this matter.
Meng Yunzheng and Zhao Xi were brought over. Madam Gong wanted to rush up and kill him, but was stopped by the soldiers.
Lord Jing presented the evidence and began interrogating Gong Ya.
Despite her pale face, Gong Ya clenched her teeth and refused to admit it.
Lord Jing has seen plenty of people like this. It doesn't matter if they don't admit it; he has witnesses and physical evidence in his hands, and he has plenty of ways to make Gong Yalian talk.
When Madam Gong heard that the murderer was Gong Ya, she was completely stunned.
Once Lord Jing explained the reason and summoned Aunt Chen, Madam Dong, and Madam Dong's brother, all the sophistry became futile.
Gong Ya was only fourteen years old. In a place like Dali Temple, under the heavy pressure emanating from Lord Jing, she finally broke down and cried after Aunt Chen could no longer resist and confessed.
Madam Gong was incredulous. After learning that it was her own attempt to force her into a marriage swap that led to her son's death, she was completely stunned.
The hatred she had been holding onto for days suddenly became a joke, causing her chest to swell and her to cough up blood, falling straight backward.
Lord Jing had her helped down, slammed his gavel, and said in a deep voice, "Upon investigation, the murderer in the case of Gong Chang's murder is his sister, a woman surnamed Gong. There are witnesses and physical evidence. The murderer will now be imprisoned to await further proceedings. The suspect, Gong Xiao Zhaoxi, was framed and is now released without charge. Court adjourned."
Shu Yu couldn't help but laugh, and Meng Yunzheng respectfully cupped his hands, "Thank you for your keen insight, sir."
"Young Master Gong, now that the truth of the case has come to light, you can go back."
I'm having writer's block! I need to sort this out.
