Chapter 1286 The Workshop Opens

Chapter 1286 The Workshop Opens

When Shu Yu received the message, he was harvesting sunflowers at the estate.

She was wearing a drab gray smock, her hair was piled up in a bun and wrapped in a cloth, and she was cutting sunflower stalks with a sickle. She worked with a huff and puff, her movements no less efficient than the other farmers.

She looked so good that no one would recognize her if she blended into the crowd.

The messenger was Xia Yan, Meng Yunzheng's attendant, who arrived at the sunflower field but couldn't find him for a long time.

Xiang Weinan had special channels; as soon as the news was confirmed in the capital, before the official documents even arrived, someone rushed to inform him of it.

Xiang Weinan immediately sought out Meng Yunzheng to discuss matters, and the latter then asked Xia Yan to come and inform Shu Yu.

Shu Yu emerged from the sunflower field and remained silent for a long while after hearing the news. Yet, she felt a sense of 'finally arriving' within her.

Xia Yan said, "The new emperor has ascended the throne; he is the fifth prince."

Shu Yu nodded; she knew who the new emperor was before anyone else.

She untied her rolled-up sleeves and began walking towards the estate.

Although the news hasn't officially come out yet, she still needs to give everyone a heads-up.

She told everyone to stop wearing bright and eye-catching clothes, and the two red lanterns hanging at the entrance of the manor were also taken down.

The crowd was puzzled, but seeing Shu Yu's serious expression, they obediently followed his instructions.

Fortunately, the farmers in the village didn't have any brightly colored clothes, and they couldn't bear to spend the money. Only a few families, after their wages had recently increased, had bought some bright fabric to make clothes for their children, and they had all changed out of those clothes by now.

After giving his instructions, Shu Yu continued working.

Once the sunflowers are harvested, the workshop will open for business.

Because of the emperor's passing, the originally planned grand ceremony was simplified, with no firecrackers set off, and the event proceeded in a very low-key manner.

Today, the workshop has three courtyards: one is a factory for processing melon seeds, one is a factory for pressing oil, and the other is the living quarters and dining area for the employees.

The three courtyards are separate, with a large open space between them. If the workshop expands in the future, additional buildings can be added to the open space; otherwise, the space can be used to dry the harvested sunflower seeds.

The outermost part is a wall that encloses all three courtyards, leaving only the main gate and two side gates.

All three gates are guarded. The two side gates are not usually opened, and everyone goes in and out through the main gate.

On the day of the opening, Shu Yu was also present. She stood at the gate dressed in a neat outfit, looking at the forty-two employees who were suppressing their excitement. After saying a few simple words, the Lu family workshop was officially opened.

The gate opened, and the crowd filed in.

They had actually seen the inside of the workshop before, but on their first day of work, they still couldn't help but look around.

However, not long after they went inside, they became somewhat puzzled.

Shu Yu was leading the way, but why did she go to the left? Isn't the factory on the right?

Everyone was a little nervous for a moment.

Shu Yu stopped when she reached the leftmost accommodation area. She looked everyone over one by one, and they all became flustered under her gaze, fearing that something might go wrong on their first day of work and they would be sent home immediately.

Finally, a villager from Shangshi Village named Luo Chun couldn't help but ask, "Boss, aren't we...aren't we going to work?"

Shu Yu smiled and said, "Of course I'll go, but there are a few things I need to do before I go."

Her expression softened, which reassured everyone.
