Chapter 1588: Was it a profit or a loss in the end?

Chapter 1588: Was it a profit or a loss in the end?

As the shop neared closing time, another small surge of customers arrived. Many people heading home from work rushed over.

Among them was the person who had been watching the banner and talking to Shu Yu that morning. This person said he would come over in the evening, but he actually did.

Even more coincidentally, he was the one who won the last first prize.

Shu Yu originally thought he would choose a hairpin, but unexpectedly he chose a double-sided embroidery.

The people behind realized that the first prize was gone, and they beat their chests and stamped their feet in frustration for a while. Then they cheered up and continued to draw prizes, after all, there were still second, third, and fourth prizes to be won.

By the time the last third prize was drawn, it was already dark.

There weren't many customers outside, and Shu Yu told them the truth: nowadays, all the prizes were just consolation prizes.

After hearing this, about half of the guests left, but the rest continued to leave.

There was still some popcorn left, so Shu Yu simply filled large portions for everyone.

Everyone finally breathed a long sigh of relief after the last guest left.

"Finally finished." Da Niu slumped onto the stool behind him, closed his eyes, and rested for a while.

He's someone who's experienced hardship, but being on edge all day like this is really exhausting.

Shu Yu was also tired, but in a good mood. She leaned on the counter and looked at Meng Yunzheng, who was using an abacus, and said, "Take a break, we'll do the calculations later."

Meng Yunzheng smiled and said, "I'm not tired. I'll wait a little longer and we'll be able to calculate today's profit soon."

"Alright, then you continue." She turned to Wei Ronghua, "Manager Wei, why don't you take everyone to the restaurant across the street to order some dishes and have a late-night snack? Everyone's been busy all day and is exhausted. After eating, they should rest early. When you come back, bring some back for the two of us."

Apart from Wei Ronghua, everyone else can just squeeze into the backyard of the shop today.

Wei Fangfang was too young, so Shu Yu sent her home early. It was fine for her to help out occasionally, but she couldn't handle working all day. She couldn't exploit a child laborer.

Wei Ronghua nodded. "Okay." He called to the others, "Let's go, everyone come with me to the other side to get something to eat."

Everyone rushed out of the shop.

The huge roadside shop was almost empty, with not only the goods nearly gone but also just the two of them left.

Shu Yu walked behind the counter and sat down next to Meng Yunzheng.

The two remained silent, one calculating and the other observing, creating an atmosphere of peaceful contentment.

Meng Yunzheng is a meticulous person; after calculating it once, he calculated it again.

After confirming that everything was correct, the results were written down and presented to Shu Yu.

He then said with a smile, "It seems this event went very well."

Shu Yu glanced at the last number on the notebook, raised an eyebrow, and said, "So much?"

Three hundred and fifty-seven taels, three mace, and six wen?

This is pure profit, the money earned after deducting labor costs and prizes from the raffle.

"Ayu, how is it?" People outside the door came in one after another.

Shu Yu looked up. "You guys are moving way too fast. Didn't you want to have a proper meal?"

Wei Ronghua said helplessly, "Everyone wants to know whether we made a profit or a loss today."

After all, those prizes weren't cheap, but most people who bought melon seeds would go straight to the lottery after spending 200 coins.

Shu Yu didn't keep them in suspense and said with a smile, "Of course we made a profit."

Everyone's eyes lit up. "How much?"
