Chapter 1721 Meng Qi waiting outside
Uncle Meng was still unconscious, so Meng Yunzheng gave him another pill.
He was running low on medicine; the poison those rebels were given was diluted by him, otherwise there simply wouldn't be enough for so many people. He also distributed some of the remaining medicine for external and internal injuries to the wounded in the cells.
Fortunately, they will be able to return soon; Meng Yunzheng left some medicine with Xia Yan.
Uncle Meng was placed on a flatbed cart, the same kind used to transport food to the wild beasts, only now there weren't many of them. Uncle Meng lay on it, along with He Er's cousin and other injured people who couldn't walk easily.
Meng Yunzheng had initially considered taking Tao Feili's body back with him, but then decided against it. They had important business to attend to now; even if they did take Tao Feili back, he would either be sent back to the Tao family or to the Meng family.
No matter where they sent him, it would be difficult to settle him, so they left him in the black market.
In addition, weapons were strapped to the other carts.
Meng Yunzheng and Shu Yu both carried bows and arrows on their backs and swords at their waists; they carried as much as they could.
They walked very slowly; the secret passage was narrow, and they were carrying heavy loads, so they couldn't move quickly.
When they reached the fork in the road, Xia Yi, who was walking ahead, stopped.
She nodded to Meng Yunzheng and Shu Yu, saying, "Let's part ways here."
Xia Yi was heading to the county magistrate's private residence. The fork in the road led in two directions; the abandoned mansion wasn't a problem, but the magistrate's residence needed to be blocked off. Xia Yi also wanted to see what was inside, or whether Magistrate Cheng lived there.
If he were here, Xia Yi could easily take him down.
Meng Yunzheng told her to be careful, and Xia Yi then led Lu Wu and his group in another direction.
Meng Yunzheng and the others continued walking forward quietly.
After finally reaching the end, everyone breathed a sigh of relief.
Qin Kun stepped forward and activated the mechanism to open the secret passage, then went up first. Meng Yunzheng and Shu Yu followed closely behind, while the others remained where they were, waiting to confirm that everything was safe outside before emerging.
It was still quite dark outside. Meng Yunzheng and his group had left the Meng family in the morning and stayed in the black market for almost a day and a night.
It's almost dawn now, but because it's winter, there's still about half an hour before daybreak.
After Meng Yunzheng came out, he listened carefully but heard no sound. Then he turned around and pulled Shu Yu out.
Just as the people behind were about to follow, Meng Yunzheng's ears suddenly perked up, and he abruptly turned his head, "Who?"
Mr. Yang and the others who were behind him were startled and immediately dared not move.
Meng Yunzheng squinted at the outside of the room, and Shu Yu raised her wrist to look outside as well. Everyone looked tense.
The next moment, a familiar, hushed voice was heard, "Brother?"
Meng Yunzheng was taken aback, then pressed down on Shu Yu's wrist. "It's Meng Qi."
Shu Yu breathed a sigh of relief and gave a reassuring gesture to Master Yang and the others behind her.
Sure enough, Meng Qi peeked out from under the window and, seeing them standing inside, happily climbed in through the window. Suppressing his excitement, he ran to Meng Yunzheng's side and said, "Brother, it really is you! You're finally back!"
He let out a long breath, his face still showing lingering fear. "How was it? Everything went smoothly, right?"
Meng Yunzheng hummed in agreement. "Everything went smoothly. But what are you doing here? Where's Yuan Gui? Has he been sent back yet?"
