Chapter 1793 Yuan Gui Reneges on Acknowledging His Relatives

Chapter 1793 Yuan Gui Reneges on Acknowledging His Relatives

When Shu Yu reached the center of the village, she saw the village chief of Hedeng Village being helped towards her.

Shu Yu quickly stepped forward, and the village chief made a gesture to bow, but she helped him up. "Old village chief, there's no need for such formalities. I've just come to see Granny Fang."

The old village chief is quite old, but he walks steadily and seems to be in good spirits, leaning on his cane.

"It's never wrong to be overly polite. Since Mr. Lu has come all this way, why don't you come to my house for a cup of tea? I'll send someone to the Fang family to call for someone."

"No need, I can go by myself."

The old village chief nodded, "Alright, I'll accompany Mr. Lu."

Shu Yu originally wanted to say a few polite words, but then she thought that Grandma Fang had lived here for thirty years and wondered how she was doing, so she simply followed the old village chief and walked slowly, hoping to find out more about her.

The old village chief was both curious and apprehensive about Shu Yu's arrival.

After walking a few steps, he couldn't help but ask, "Lord Lu, what do you need that old woman Fang for? I heard from Yuan Gui that they've been working at the county government these past few days. They shouldn't have made any mistakes, right? Actually, they're both honest and law-abiding people..."

Shu Yu listened to the old village chief's rambling, but his words were always defending Granny Fang. She felt warm inside and smiled, "I just have a private matter to ask Granny Fang. I know she's a good person."

The old village chief was relieved. The two hadn't gone far when someone came running up from ahead in a hurry.

The man looked to be about the same age as Shu Yu, but his face was full of anger. As soon as he ran up to the old village chief, he said, "Grandpa, Yuan Gui doesn't want to acknowledge Fang Po as his relative again. He's gone back on his word."

The old village chief was taken aback, then frantically started giving his grandson meaningful glances, signaling him to be quiet.

The latter ran up to the old village chief and saw Shu Yu, who was hidden by the wall. His expression changed immediately, but he had already said what he needed to say.

He was extremely annoyed. The old village chief could only smile at Shu Yu and say, "This is my grandson. He's impulsive, so please don't take offense, Mr. Lu."

Shu Yu smiled; she simply had doubts about what he was saying.

"What do you mean Yuan Gui won't acknowledge Fang Po as his relative? What's going on?"

The village chief's grandson stammered, trying to come up with an excuse, but afraid of making up a story.

The old village chief sighed and then explained, "I suppose Mr. Lu knows something about Granny Fang. She's been all alone all these years, and now Yuangui and she get along very well. Neither of them has any relatives left. Before they went to the county town, someone suggested that they become relatives so they could take care of each other in the future. They were both willing, but just as they were making preparations, Granny Fang fell ill and went to the county town. She only returned yesterday."

Now that they're back, the matter of reuniting with family has been put back on the agenda.

The old village chief's family had a good relationship with Granny Fang. As the village chief, she asked her own children and grandchildren to help with the arrangements for such a joyous occasion as the family reunion.

Why does it sound like something's gone wrong right now?

The old village chief looked at his grandson, "Why did Yuan Gui suddenly change his mind? Did something happen? Did he say anything?"

The latter huffed, "Who knows what he's thinking? I think he just found a job at the county government and thinks he's got a promising future, so he doesn't want to take care of Granny Fang anymore. He even made excuses, saying that maybe Granny Fang still has relatives alive. Sir, listen to what he's saying!"
