Chapter 18 Younger Brother Da Hu
Shu Yu couldn't help but touch her eyes and nose. She had never met Da Ya before and didn't know how similar they were.
But Shu Yu as a child is very similar to San Ya now.
No wonder Ruan looked at me with such burning passion and excitement earlier; her intuition was really accurate.
Lu Erbai and Ruan Shi were still talking in the kitchen. Lu Erbai hesitated for a moment before saying, "Miss Shu... has parents and a home, and she seems to be doing well. Even if, I mean even if she really is Er Ya, she is definitely living a better life than in our family."
Mrs. Ruan was stunned, and the couple fell silent at the same time.
After a long while, Madam Ruan sobbed softly, "If you say that, I... I wish she were Er Ya. At least it would mean she's doing well and hasn't suffered much. That would put my mind at ease."
Lu Erbai patted her shoulder, "Alright, stop thinking about it. Go wash your face and start cooking. Mom should be back soon."
Ruan sniffed, hummed in agreement, and turned to get back to work.
Shu Yu let out a breath, stood up, and walked into the courtyard.
Suddenly, the courtyard gate creaked open, and Shu Yu looked up to see a thin, small figure with a sallow complexion struggling to drag a bundle of firewood inside.
Upon seeing her, the other person paused for a moment, then turned around in surprise to look at their surroundings.
After confirming that this was indeed his home, he asked curiously, "Who are you? What are you doing in my house?"
"You are... Da Hu?" This name doesn't match his size at all.
Do you recognize me?
Shu Yu nodded and stepped forward to bring in the bundle of firewood that he was pulling behind him. As she passed by him, she noticed that his palms were chafed raw by the rope that had been used to tie the firewood.
This little guy is small in stature and strength, but he has a big heart. He's not satisfied until he brings back such a big bundle of firewood.
Da Hu paused for a moment before quickly following him inside.
Shu Yu walked to the corner where the firewood was piled up, put it down, clapped her hands, and turned around. She saw Da Hu following closely behind her, curiously looking at her.
Shu Yu found it amusing. "What's wrong? Do you think I'm a bad guy?"
Da Hu stared wide-eyed and hurriedly shook his head, "No, no, I, I..." He felt inexplicably nervous and took a small step back.
In the kitchen next door, Ruan was cooking, and Lu Erbai was helping to stoke the fire. Hearing the noise outside, Ruan hurriedly came out. "Dahu, why are you only coming back now?"
"I saw a lot of firewood at the foot of the mountain and wanted to collect more, so I came back late." As she spoke, she secretly glanced at Shuyu. When she saw Shuyu looking at her, she quickly lowered her head, her face slightly flushed.
Upon seeing this, Madam Ruan immediately said, "This is Miss Shu, a guest of our family."
A guest? Da Hu stared wide-eyed in shock. Did they really have a guest whose status seemed so different from others?
Just then, the old lady's cursing voice came from outside, "...Third son, get back home! Second son's family has guests today. If you dare to cause trouble, I'll lie down at your house and you'll have to support me from now on."
As she spoke, she opened the courtyard gate, and the old lady led Sanya in by the hand.
He then turned around and slammed the courtyard gate shut, shutting out the people outside.
Shu Yu had sharp eyes and spotted the angry-looking man at the door. Wasn't that the same man she had seen when she first entered the village?
