Chapter 1879 The Pan Family's Plans
Shu Yu's expression was solemn. He turned to Xia Yan and said, "Go find the patrolling officers and bring Chen Bing to the government office. I, the county magistrate, am going to file a complaint."
"yes."
"No, I didn't, don't go, don't go!" Chen Bing's voice was shrill, his eyes bloodshot as he looked at Xia Yan.
The latter ignored him and ran off to find someone without looking back.
However, the officials who had been nowhere to be seen before suddenly followed Xia Yan to the Chen family's residence very quickly this time.
They first bowed to Shu Yu, and then, without saying a word, took Chen Bing away.
The Chen family was terrified and clung to Chen Bing, refusing to let go. "Officer, officer, spare our lives! Our master didn't do those things. He's been framed."
The officer's face was cold. "Whether you've been wronged or not, the officials at the yamen will determine that. Let go immediately; obstructing officers in handling a case is considered an accomplice. Do you want to be taken away like this?"
The Chen family was startled and quickly let go.
Chen Bing cried and was dragged away by two officers. His foot was still injured, and every step he took was so painful that he broke out in a cold sweat.
Shu Yu and the others then went out, got into a carriage, and followed slowly behind.
The Pan family members stared blankly, thinking that things were about to end. The eldest Pan brother quickly ran into the backyard to ask his father for advice.
But what could Old Man Pan possibly do? He was still recovering from a serious illness, and the commotion in the front yard had already made him feel unwell. After hearing the servants explain the whole story, he felt even more annoyed and unlucky. The county magistrate Chen Bing had offended had even forged official documents years ago. If there was no evidence, that would be one thing, but what if there was? Wouldn't he be sentenced to exile and military service?
Old Man Pan only allowed his eldest son to go along and see what happened, and to act accordingly.
Pan Laoda was about to leave, but when he reached the door, Pan Laotou called him back. He thought it over and over again, and finally said to his son, "If things really get to the point of no return, you should have your sister divorce him."
"Father, this..."
"What is this? Are we going to drag our entire Pan family down with us?"
Pan Laoda thought about it and realized that the Pan family had so many people and they still needed to make a living.
He gritted his teeth and said, "I understand, Dad."
After saying that, he hurriedly chased after her.
The courtyard was empty; everyone was following the procession of officials toward the government office.
The procession was large and imposing, and Chen Bing, as the center of attention, wished he could bury his head in the ground.
The Chen family followed behind. Pan and Chen Qiu were crying and sobbing, while Chen He had a gloomy face and didn't say a word to his wife the whole way.
With the government office almost at the door, Chen Bing knew that if he missed the opportunity again, it would be too late.
He forced himself to turn away from the pain, desperately searching for Chen Qiu. Upon seeing his daughter, he quickly gestured to Chen Qiu, telling her to seek Xun Sheng's help.
Chen Qiu paused for a moment, then seemed to realize something, quickly nodded, and ran to Xun Sheng, who was also following behind him.
Xun Sheng looked at her, unsure what to say. His classmate, however, was wary of Chen Qiu. Chen Bing's character was truly questionable, and as her daughter, this classmate felt she wasn't as kind as she appeared.
Ignoring the stares of others, Chen Qiu wiped away her tears and whispered, "Brother Xun, please help my father. I don't know what my father did in the past, but no matter what he did, he's still my father. I can't just stand by and watch him get into trouble. Brother Xun, please help me this once, for the sake of the time I saved you, as a way of repaying this kindness."
