Chapter 1978: Teaching Shu Yu a Lesson
Shu Yu glanced at her wet clothes, resignedly squatted down, picked up the fish, and put it back into the bamboo tube, where there was still a little water.
She said to the child, "The little fish is still alive. Go back and get some more water to keep it alive."
The child looked up and realized he had bumped into someone and gotten their clothes dirty. He immediately apologized, stammering, "I'm sorry, I... I didn't mean to."
"It's alright, go home now."
The child glanced at the small fish in the bamboo tube, then at the gentle Shu Yu, whispered a thank you, and ran home with a blush on his face.
After all that commotion, when Shu Yu looked up again, she could no longer see the people who had been following her.
Her clothes were wet and she felt very uncomfortable, and passersby kept glancing at her.
Shu Yu had a headache. She had originally planned to go to Lu Ji's shop to ask Jiang Fengshou about the Cheng family's eldest daughter, but she couldn't care less about that now. She needed to go back and change her clothes first.
Fortunately, they had already reached Fuyuan Street, and Shu Yu quickly returned to the small courtyard where she was renting a place.
A short while after she entered, the maid peeked out from around the corner. Looking at the empty street, the maid's face was blank. Where did she go? How could she have disappeared so quickly?
The maid took a few steps forward, looked around the courtyard that Shu Yu had rented, and then stamped her foot and hurried back.
Cheng Jiatong was still waiting for her. When she saw her return, he looked up and asked, "Do you know where she lives?"
The maid lowered her head and said softly, "I live on Fuyuan Street, but she almost spotted me just now. In the blink of an eye, she disappeared."
“…” Cheng Jiatong glared at her, “Useless.”
The maidservant lowered her head and dared not utter a sound.
Cheng Jiatong kicked her, "Are you sure it's on Fuyuan Street?"
The maid nodded repeatedly, "She was bumped into by a child, and her clothes are all wet. She definitely needs to go home to change. Miss, what should we do now? Should we go back and find someone to teach that woman a lesson?"
“Go back to find someone? No need. Didn’t you say your brother knows some thugs? Tell them to go to Fuyuan Street, wait for that woman to come out, tie her up, keep her tied up overnight, and then let her go. Let’s see how she still has the face to propose to Gan Rui.”
The maid trembled; her mistress was about to completely ruin the girl's reputation.
But looking at the slap mark on the young lady's face, she wasn't surprised. When had the young lady ever suffered such an injustice in her life? She would never let the person who slapped her off easily.
The maid agreed, and she acted quickly. Just past noon, five or six thugs had gathered together.
The group walked directly toward Fuyuan Street, their arrogant demeanor causing passersby to make way for them.
As Jiang Fengshou passed by Lu Ji's shop, he glanced at it, leaned against the door, and clicked his tongue, "Who are these thugs going to cause trouble for this time?"
It was midday, and there weren't many customers in the shop. Zhou Tiedong had just finished wiping the counter when he heard this. He walked over and looked at the backs of those people, frowning as he said, "The city has been so strict lately, how dare they cause trouble?"
"It's good that they made a scene; if they get arrested, it'll serve as a warning to others."
Only after the group of thugs had gone far away did Jiang Fengshou turn his attention back to the counter and get back to work.
Unbeknownst to him, the thugs stopped not far from the courtyard where Shu Yu lived.
