Chapter 2231 They all came knocking on the door.
Although the emperor really wanted to criticize Meng Yunzheng's academy name, he held back in order to maintain his dignity.
He glanced at the civil and military officials below, each with their own thoughts, and said, "I have granted Scholar Meng's request to return to his academy to teach. The matter is settled. Do any of you have anything else to report? If not, the court may adjourn."
The officials below actually had many questions they wanted to ask, but after the emperor finished speaking, he didn't give them a chance to speak at all, and just glanced at the eunuch.
The head eunuch understood immediately and shouted, "Court adjourned!"
The officials could only bow and respectfully see the emperor off. Qi Chan stood in the queue, his brows furrowed as he looked at Meng Yunzheng, who was still standing in the middle.
No, I have to have a good talk with him after the court session. Qi Chan really doesn't want to miss out on such a promising and learned young man.
However, as soon as the emperor left, the chief eunuch walked up to Meng Yunzheng and said, "Scholar Meng, the calligraphy you requested is in the back hall. His Majesty has asked you to retrieve it."
"Alright, thank you for leading the way, Father-in-law."
And so Meng Yunzheng was summoned away by the emperor, leaving Qi Chan breathless and nearly unable to breathe.
He waited outside the palace for half an hour, but Meng Yunzheng did not come out. He could only frown and tell the coachman to turn back.
After changing out of his official robes at home, Qi Chan got back into the carriage and said to the driver, "Go to Futai Street, to the shop run by the Princess of Wen'an. You know the address of the shop you took the old lady to the other day, right?"
"I know, I know," the driver readily agreed.
Qi Chan leaned against the carriage with his eyes closed, his expression slightly solemn.
When the carriage arrived at the entrance of Luji Road on Futai Street, Qi Chan lifted the curtain and met Yao Tianqin, who had also gotten off the carriage.
Both of them were taken aback. Yao Tianqin immediately stepped forward and helped Qi Chan down. "Why has the Grand Tutor come over?"
"I've come to find Shu Yu."
"Then... together?"
"Let's go inside first."
The waiter at the door was originally greeting guests, but when he saw the two carriages, he quickly ran inside to inform Manager Yun.
As a local of the capital and a man of many knowledge, Manager Yun recognized Qi Chan and Yao Tianqin as soon as he stepped out. Remembering his master's instructions, he immediately came forward and said in a low voice, "Please come in, gentlemen. The master is on the second floor. I will lead you up."
Qi Chan glanced at Manager Yun, then, remembering his wife's mention of the second floor of the shop, nodded and followed her up.
Qi Chan had expected to find many guests on the second floor, but upon climbing the steps, he discovered it was eerily quiet. There wasn't a single guest inside, except for Shu Yu sitting behind a table drinking tea.
He instantly understood: Shu Yu knew he was coming and was waiting here on purpose.
Yao Tianqin didn't think too much about it. When he saw Shu Yu, he quickly stepped forward, his tone urgent, "Ayu, do you know Yunzheng's plans? Do you know that he gave up his official position to go back and open an academy?"
Shu Yu poured tea for both of them. "Mr. Qi, Uncle Yao, please don't rush. Sit down for a while and have a cup of tea to soothe your throats."
Qi Chan glared at her, annoyed. He had no interest in drinking tea right now.
Yao Tianqin was even less in the mood, but he still pulled out a chair for Qi Chan and sat down before sitting down himself.
As soon as she sat down, she couldn't help but ask, "Ayu, what are you really thinking?"
"I know about this, and I support him."
"You support him, but what about your parents? Do your family members know about his decision?"
