Chapter 312 Steamed Egg Custard
The mule cart soon stopped in front of the Lu family's large house in Shangshi Village. Shu Yu got off the cart carrying Quan Quan, who was whimpering from hunger and about to cry.
Lan Hua carried a small stool and sat at the door, waiting for them while tying a ribbon around her neck.
Upon seeing the group, she quickly placed her sewing basket on the stool and came over. "Father, how are things at Fourth Aunt's house?"
"Let's go inside first and talk." Lu Dasong's expression was not relaxed, and Lan Hua immediately felt uneasy.
She was shocked when she saw the wound on Xiao Zhen's forehead, who was being led by Da Niu behind her.
She quickly closed the door after everyone had gone inside.
Li came out of the main room with a frown. Just as she was about to say something, Lu Dasong instructed her, "Make something for Quan Quan and Xiao Zhen to eat first. Steam two bowls of egg custard to fill the children's stomachs."
Li frowned, not moving. "What's going on?" What's there to eat? He still wants steamed egg custard. These eggs were hard to come by. Is he the only one who's generous?
"Oh, stop asking, hurry up. After the child finishes eating, we still need to get to the county town."
Li was unwilling and kept dawdling.
Fortunately, Lan Hua was quick-witted and had already run to the kitchen to get busy.
Shu Yu didn't bother to look at Li Shi, and took Quan Quan to the kitchen. Seeing this, Xiao Zhen grabbed her sleeve and hurriedly followed.
While coaxing Quan Quan, Shu Yu told Lan Hua about the situation in Da Xu Village.
In the courtyard, Lu Dasong also had a brief conversation with Li.
Lan Hua was shocked upon hearing this, but Li almost cursed out loud. She had just uttered Yuan Shanchuan's name when Da Niu, quick-witted and agile, pulled her aside. "Mother, Xiao Zhen is still here. Don't say anything that will upset her. Besides, with A Yu here, have you forgotten about the time when Second Uncle's shop opened and he sent someone to deliver gifts to the master? Don't worry, Fourth Aunt will be fine."
"Of course I hope she's alright." Otherwise, wouldn't she implicate them?
Li was already very troubled these past two days, and now her chest was aching. She didn't want to see Xiao Zhen and the others, so she simply went back to her room.
At this critical juncture, Lu Dasong had no time to argue with her, nor did he bother to say anything to her.
He told Erniu, who had already run back, to find his old pants from when he was a child and change Quan Quan into a new set.
Although Shu Yu removed his diaper, the child's pants were also wet.
The steamed egg custard was ready quickly, and Lan Hua gave Xiao Zhen a bowl, but the latter hesitated.
She knew this was something precious; she had hardly ever eaten it when she visited her three uncles' homes before.
Her eldest uncle's family is taken care of by her eldest aunt. Her second uncle's family is poor, and her mother won't let her eat. As for her third uncle, let's not even talk about him; it's a miracle he doesn't complain about being poor and saying his precious daughter doesn't even have egg custard to eat.
Therefore, in Xiaozhen's heart, the steamed egg custard from her uncle's house was very precious.
Now that she steams two bowls at a time, she's hesitant to cook, especially when her parents aren't around.
Lan Hua took a spoon and said, "Eat quickly, aren't you going to the county town to see your mother later? Don't delay."
Shu Yu had already started feeding Quan Quan; the little guy was clearly very hungry and was eating very hard.
After Shu Yu finished feeding him a bowl, he was still a little unsatisfied, tugging at her hand and babbling, "...eat, ah, eat."
Shu Yu wiped his mouth and said, "Okay, let's not eat now. We'll eat in the county town later."
After saying that, she turned to look at Xiao Zhen, who had already finished eating and was looking at her impatiently, as if she really wanted to go to the county town to see her mother.
Shu Yu switched Quan Quan's arms and said, "Let's go."
