Chapter 497 Shu Yu: I'll Pay Another Ten Taels
'Hiss!' Shu Yu almost chipped her teeth.
Is this really a biscuit? Or is it a toothpick for her to grind her teeth?
Shu Yu looked at the pancake in her hand with a conflicted expression, wondering whether she should eat it or not.

Shu Yu lowered her head again and tried to take another bite, but only teeth marks were left on the pancake; she couldn't even bite off a piece.
The Shu family members were all watching her, and upon seeing this, they couldn't help but sneer.
"If she's so capable, then she should refuse to eat it."
"What a fuss. Let's see how long she can hold out. If she doesn't want to eat, then let her go hungry."
"Do you think the officials will intervene if we go and snatch those cakes from her now?"
"The five taels of silver for favors have all been spent; how could the officials have the time to care?"
The group exchanged glances, all of them somewhat eager to make a move.
However, just as they were about to take action, Shu Yu suddenly stood up, took the flatbread, and walked step by step toward the officials who were sitting together, eating and chatting.
Fourth Sister, "What...what does she want to do?"
Not only them, but even the old lady frowned and looked in her direction. However, she was old and not as strong as a young girl, so she didn't want to speak at all.
Shu Yu walked up to the officials, then took out a ten-tael silver note and handed it to them.
The officers who were speaking suddenly stopped and stared wide-eyed at the silver notes in her hand.

The Shu family looked at her in horror, their smug expressions still lingering, now replaced by a comical grin.
Shu Yu pursed her lips and whispered to the officers, "Here's ten taels of silver, take it all. Will you still take care of me? That cake was too hard, I really can't eat it."
She's gotten so inflated, she's really gotten incredibly inflated.
The officers looked at each other, one of them looking at the silver note in her hand with a look of surprise and touching his chin.
Oh dear, I thought this trip wouldn't yield much, maybe just five taels of silver at most, but it seems there's more than that.
The officer chuckled and took the ten-tael silver note. "Since you've already paid for your meal, we'll definitely make sure you eat well. However, we gave a discount on the previous five taels because we were grateful for the old couple's hardship. Plus, since you've just been exiled, the conditions aren't that harsh yet, so five taels of silver can last for five days. But this ten taels won't last much longer."
Shu Yu sneered inwardly. No wonder they say that these officials can squeeze the most money out of people on the road to exile. Look at their practiced movements.
Shu Yu nodded. "I understand. I'll hold on for as many days as I can."
The head officer readily handed her two rice balls wrapped in pickled vegetables.
Shu Yu thanked him with the rice ball and was about to turn back when he heard the official who had offered to take care of him when they left the city gate say, "Miss, you have more than just these ten taels of silver notes on you, don't you?"
Shu Yu paused, turned around to look at him, and clenched the rice ball in her hand slightly.
Upon hearing this, the other officials also turned around.
The officer sized up Shu Yu. "You've got some nerve. Aren't you afraid we'll just strip you naked, take your money, and then leave you alone? You don't really think we're the kind of honest laborers who will do anything for you if you pay us, do you?"
