Chapter 556 Arrival in the Southwest

Chapter 556 Arrival in the Southwest

Aunt He is the fifth daughter's biological mother.

After the Fifth Sister died, Aunt He was so heartbroken that she lost all her mental support.

Furthermore, the old lady who used to be able to support her was gone, and the second master didn't like her. In the future, she would have to do heavy labor in the southwest. Thinking about all this, she felt that her future was bleak and she couldn't see any hope at all.

Such immense psychological pressure caused Aunt He to pass away shortly after Jin Shi.

Two more have left, making three in total, including Shu Yu whose whereabouts are still unknown. The Shu family couldn't help but feel uneasy, and the atmosphere was somber.

No one expected that just three days ago, the Seventh Sister suddenly fell into the water and was pulled out of the water, but she was already dead.

"You're saying the last one is the Seventh Sister?"

The second wife's legitimate daughter who tried to scare Shu Yu with a cockroach in the prison cell?

Hou nodded. "Yes, three days ago at noon, we rested by the river to get something to eat. Everyone was a bit tired and wanted to rest as much as possible, so no one noticed where Seventh Miss had gone. When the officials said they were to set off, they couldn't find her anywhere. Then someone shouted that there was a person floating on the river. The officials dragged the person ashore and found that it was Seventh Miss, but she was already dead."

Shu Yu frowned. "How did you end up in the water?"

Hou sighed, "The officials inspected the riverbank and, judging from the marks, it was someone who accidentally tripped and fell in."

"If someone accidentally falls into the river, there should be some noise, right? Even if they were exhausted, in a life-or-death situation, they would have shouted for help. She didn't make a sound at all? And what was she doing by the river in the first place?"

Upon hearing Shu Yu's words, Madam Hou frowned, finding it somewhat strange. "You mean, someone harmed her?"

"I wasn't there, so I can't say for sure, but I just find it strange."

After Shu Yu finished speaking, she lay down on the bed.

The Shu family was exiled from Dong'an Prefecture to Linzhang Prefecture, and they were about to reach their destination. Of the dozen or so people, five had already gone.

Actually, the number wasn't that large. Some exile groups lost two-thirds of their members just on the way. The Shu family consisted mostly of women, who were pampered and spoiled. Most of them were able to reach their destination safely thanks to the fact that the officials they encountered weren't too wicked.

Especially with that leading official in charge, the fact that no one forced themselves on the woman was already considered lucky for the Shu family.

Shu Yu went to sleep, but Hou Shi and the Sixth Miss exchanged a glance.

The two thought carefully about what had happened, but no matter how hard they tried, they couldn't figure out who was the one who had harmed Seventh Sister.

But at least, Hou became increasingly cautious in the following days.

The group set off again early the next morning.

Because of his injuries, Shu Yu sat on the cart and let the mule continue to pull him.

The lead officer was alright, so Madam Hou and the Sixth Miss also sat down.

The journey was not far ahead, and nothing else went wrong. Two days later, the group finally arrived at the capital of Linzhang Prefecture.

Standing at the city gate, everyone breathed a sigh of relief.

Shu Yu found it amusing. Officials could say they had completed their mission, but why were the Shu family members relaxing as well? Working day and night was the hardest part, wasn't it?

"Let's go, let's go to the government office first."

At the city gate, the leading official had Shu Yu and the others get off the cart.
