Chapter 573 Wanting to Change Jobs
Shu Yu watched his departing figure, her eyes slightly narrowed.
At this moment, the thin woman who worked with her came over. She looked at Shu Yu with a slightly complicated expression, opened her mouth as if to say something, but seemed afraid of Master Lan.
After a long pause, she finally couldn't help but remind Shu Yu, "Miss, that music school is not a good place. You, you should... think it over carefully."
Shu Yu turned her head, looked at the woman's kind eyes, smiled and said, "I know, I won't go."
The woman slowly breathed a sigh of relief, then lowered her head and continued working.
It was noon when everyone finally got a break.
Shuyu still has some of the pumpkin she steamed last night, plus some dried sweet potato, so she won't go hungry.
The family of three next to her were somewhat surprised to see her take out food. After all, they were newcomers and didn't have much food.
Hou Shi and the Sixth Miss were also there, but the Shu family members watched others eat lunch, feeling hungry and uncomfortable.
Everyone was short of food, so there was no surplus to share with them. If they gave it to others, they themselves would go hungry.
Soon, Madam Shu fainted in the afternoon due to not eating all day and the heavy workload.
The people working in her group almost vomited blood. Since she fainted, they had to work twice as hard, otherwise they wouldn't be able to finish their tasks and wouldn't even have much food left for the night.
Shu Yu pretended not to see it. She had already taken over the task with the woman. She squatted down and broke up the clods of earth, then had the ten-year-old child put them into a basket, which was then carried away by the man with the missing hand.
The southwest region has long hours of sunshine, so they work until late afternoon.
After the work was finished, someone would come to take stock and distribute the grain according to how much work you had done. By the time you took the grain home, it was almost dark.
So, excluding the time spent traveling to and from the destination, they work almost non-stop for twelve hours a day.
I'm exhausted, really exhausted.
Although Shu Yu is in good physical condition, she still wants to try a different job.
She carried the grain home, and Hou Shi and the sixth daughter, looking exhausted, walked up to her. The three of them didn't want to say much, and they walked in silence all the way to her doorstep.
Back home, I still had to fetch water, gather firewood, cook, and prepare meals. My whole body was screaming in refusal, and all I wanted to do was lie in bed and be a cripple.
Shu Yu handed the grain to Hou Shi, saying, "I'm going to the foot of the mountain to gather some firewood and see if there are any wild vegetables or mushrooms to pick and bring back to eat."
Hou nodded. "Then be careful."
Shu Yu went out and ran right into the Shu family members who came in afterward.
The Shu family members only glanced at her before listlessly entering the courtyard, not wanting to say a word.
There were quite a few people who shared the same idea as Shu Yu. There were quite a few people wandering around at the foot of the mountain, but most of them were men.
Shu Yu avoided them and walked a little further inside. She hadn't gone far when she saw someone standing in front of her.
She smiled and walked towards him.
As soon as they stopped, Meng Yunzheng across from her frowned, pulled her over to sit down, and handed her some still-warm steamed buns and chicken legs. "Are you very tired?"
Shu Yu said, "It's alright." She took two bites and sighed contentedly, "But I still want to change jobs."
"What do you want to change?" Meng Yunzheng opened the water bag and fed her the water directly.
