Chapter 686 Carpenter Yao was driven away

Chapter 686 Carpenter Yao was driven away

Lu Erbai smiled. Perhaps it was because Ayu had been found and her worries were over, and things were getting better and better at home.

But to be honest, among the grandchildren, the old lady truly loves Ayu the most.

"Actually, you and your grandma are quite similar in personality."

Shu Yu turned her head. "Does it look like it?"

The old lady's words could be so sharp they could choke you; she had a real knack for speaking.

“Yes, it does.” Lu Erbai affirmed.

The two walked toward the county government office while talking.

The county government office was as normal as ever, and it was impossible to tell what had happened inside.

If Shu Yu hadn't recognized the guard who was standing at the door beside Lord Cheng, she probably wouldn't have known either.

"It seems like nothing's wrong." Lu Erbai looked outside for a while, then frowned. "Is it because your Uncle Yao hasn't arrived yet? It's already this late. He seemed so anxious yesterday; it doesn't seem like he can wait."

Looking at her father's peeking and searching manner, Shu Yu realized that her father was indeed not suited for work like tracking and investigation.

The guards at the gate were already looking this way.

"Father, if you want to know, why don't you just go and ask?"

"Ask? Who would you ask? Would they even tell us?"

Shu Yu said, "Dad, wait here for me for a while, I'll go ask."

Before Lu Erbai could react, she had already taken a few quick steps forward and stood directly in front of the guard.

The guard naturally recognized her. He had just seen Lu Erbai lingering outside for a long time, acting rather strangely. If he hadn't seen that Miss Lu was with him, he probably would have gone up to question her.

Upon seeing Shu Yu approach, he nodded slightly, "Miss Lu."

Shu Yu smiled and said, "Brother, let me ask if anyone came here looking for Lord Cheng or Mr. Qi just now?"

The guard was taken aback, hesitated for a moment, then nodded and said, "There was indeed someone who came, but they have already been driven away."

"They've been driven away?"

The guard nodded. The governor had important business to attend to, and it wasn't something that could be seen by just anyone. Especially since the other party couldn't even explain what important matter he wanted to see the governor about, it was even less likely that he would be allowed to enter.

It's not appropriate to let an unimportant person linger in the county government office.

Shu Yu thanked him, then stepped back a few paces and returned to Lu Erbai's side, whispering, "The guards at the gate said that someone did come looking for the governor, but he has been driven away. I just don't know if that person was Uncle Yao."

Lu Erbai breathed a sigh of relief. "Then they must be home."

"Is the Yao family's house far from here?"

"It's not far, just two streets from here, we'll be there soon."

So the two decided to go to the Yao family's house.

As soon as they arrived at the Yao family's door, they heard a woman crying inside.

Shu Yu and Lu Erbai exchanged a glance, and the latter immediately went forward to knock on the door.

A moment later, a young man a few years older than Shu Yu came out and opened the door. Upon seeing Lu Erbai, the man gave a wry smile and said, "Uncle Lu."

Lu Erbai was shocked to see his slightly red eyes. "What's wrong? What happened?"

The man stepped aside. "Uncle Lu, please come in first."

Shu Yu followed Lu Erbai into the room and saw an older woman leaning against a younger woman, crying and trembling.

She looked around but didn't see Carpenter Yao.

That's...strange.
