Chapter 731 The Death of Song Xin

Chapter 731 The Death of Song Xin

Song Xin recognized him too. She wasn't sure if he still recognized her, but she was terrified.

She now has a husband and children, and lives a happy and fulfilling life. She doesn't want anyone to disturb this peaceful existence.

But she still rushed home, wrote a letter, and had someone quickly send it to Meng Pei, who was out on a镖师 (bodyguard/escort) mission.

Then, with a serious expression, she told Meng Yunzheng everything that had happened back then, without caring how much shock and disbelief Meng Yunzheng, who was only ten years old at the time, would feel upon hearing this.

All she knew was that if she didn't say some things, she might never have the chance to say them again.

After doing all this, Song Xin planned to leave home with Meng Yunzheng. Wherever they went was better than waiting to die here.

However, she didn't have time. That night, the house caught fire, but the mother and son slept soundly, as if they didn't feel anything at all.

Song Xin was the first to be awakened by the smoke, and she realized that she had been drugged.

The fire was already quite large. Song Xin's body was weak, but she still tried to wake Meng Yunzheng and desperately dragged him outside.

Unfortunately, he was stopped by the trusted subordinate he had met during the day as soon as he reached the entrance of the main room.

He probably didn't expect Song Xin to wake up. Since the fire couldn't kill her, he had no choice but to take matters into his own hands.

Song Xin knew she was doomed, but her son absolutely could not be harmed.

She told her trusted subordinate that the child belonged to their family and that she was already pregnant when she left.

The subordinate hesitated, and later he killed Song Xin and took Meng Yunzheng away.

When Meng Yunzheng woke up, his subordinate was not by his side. Only the neighbors said that his house had caught fire unexpectedly, his mother had not escaped and had been burned to death, and only he had been rescued.

Meng Yunzheng only learned the truth during the day, and his mother was murdered that night. How could he possibly believe that the fire was just an accident?

He knew very well who the murderer was.

But just two days later, the bodyguards who were with Meng Pei said that they had encountered robbers on the road, and his father had unfortunately died after rolling down a cliff. They were afraid that he was in grave danger.

The successive blows were too much for a ten-year-old child to bear, and he fell ill on the spot.

The funeral arrangements for my parents were all handled by my uncle, who came all the way from our hometown.

Meng Yunzheng did not recover from his illness for more than a month.

Rumors started circulating outside, saying that he was bringing bad luck to his parents.

Meng Yunzheng was unsure what the man wanted to do next. Fearing that he might implicate his uncle, he used the rumors to his advantage and argued with his uncle, keeping his distance from him.

Not long after, after investigating his birth date and the events surrounding Song Xin's marriage, Meng Yunzheng's identity was confirmed.

That man, Gong Qiu, the current Vice Minister of Works, came to take him home.

He told the Meng family that Meng Yunzheng was a child of the Gong family, and that Song Shi was his concubine. Once, while going out of the city to offer incense, he encountered bandits and was rescued by Meng Pei.

Seeing that Song Xin was beautiful, Meng Pei took her away despite her objections and threatened her with the child in her womb to force her to marry him.

He also said that Meng Pei had no children all these years because Song Xin wouldn't let him touch them.

The Meng family didn't believe Gong Qiu's words at all, but they still remembered what happened ten years ago, especially Meng Pei's actions of bringing Song Xin back and immediately getting married, and taking people with him to the south, which just confirmed Gong Qiu's statement.
