Chapter 2399 Goodbye, Zhengdao Village
That evening, the village was unusually lively.
Ms. Wu brought her parents over as well. Her brothers had gone to the mountains in the afternoon to hunt pheasants and rabbits for a special meal.
The Fang and Xu families have lived in Zhengdao Village for many years and have gotten to know many good neighbors. Everyone who could be invited came. Everyone was a little reluctant to see them go, but more than anything, they were envious.
Everyone knew their future would be bleak, and many regretted it deeply. If they had helped capture the rebels back then, they might be able to leave now.
Shu Yu paid half of the cost of the final meal, and the other half was paid by the village. This was a great event for Zhengdao Village, and the village naturally had to show its appreciation.
The Fang and Xu families are going to the capital, and they'll need money for everything. They're not exactly flush with cash, so they'd better be frugal for now.
Shu Quan was filled with regret when he found out. It was a rare treat to have such a feast, and he never expected to miss it.
After a hearty meal and a good night's rest, the group happily went to the county town the next day to process their household registration documents.
Shu Yu and Meng Yunzheng didn't go; having nothing else to do, they went up the mountain.
They had a premonition that after leaving this time, even if they came to the Southwest again, they probably wouldn't come back to Zhengdao Village, at least not for the next ten years.
They weren't planning to hunt; they were just wandering around, treating it as a return visit.
"I remember this place. Back then, those guys from Team Five tried to scheme against us, but you took care of them all."
Meng Yunzheng held her hand and said with a smile, "It seems that the entire fifth team has changed its members."
"Really? I hadn't noticed that."
The two walked slowly, and soon came to a hill. Shu Yu was about to turn around, but when she saw the wooden sign standing in front of the hill, she paused. "That looks like the Second Master's grave."
Meng Yunzheng glanced up and saw that it was indeed the name of the Second Master of the Shu family, but the grave seemed to have been neglected for a long time. It seemed that even though the Second Master of the Shu family was gone, he couldn't attract much attention from others.
"You said the Shu family has all left, so will they move the Second Master's grave?"
Meng Yunzheng raised an eyebrow. "What do you think?"
Shu Yu glanced at it twice and shook her head. "I guess they won't be moving."
Relocating graves is a huge undertaking. Even if the Shu family still harbors some affection for the Second Master, let alone their current aversion to him, they probably won't be able to move the graves right now.
They didn't look any further and turned to continue walking into the mountains.
By the time we came down the mountain in the afternoon, everyone who had gone to the county town for business had returned.
They were quite efficient; not only did they complete the household registration procedures and obtain the travel permits, but they also bought everything they would need for the journey, and each family drove back in a mule cart.
Immediately afterwards, they began tidying up the house in a flurry of activity.
Although everyone has lived in Zhengdao Village for several years, they don't have much stuff. Apart from essential clothes, bedding, pots and pans, they have nothing else.
By the time everyone finished their work, it was already evening.
Everyone got ready and went to bed early that day, but perhaps because they were too excited, they all suffered from insomnia.
The next day, when Shu Yu loaded her luggage into the car and was about to leave, she saw that all three families had arrived, yawning.
The Xu and Shu families quickly boarded the carriage, while the Fang family, besides being excited, also felt a great deal of reluctance.
Mr. and Mrs. Fang held the child and repeatedly gave Fang Xiyue and Ma Lu some instructions before letting them get into the car.
