Chapter 1284 Liang's Persuasion
Shu Yu frowned. "Why doesn't your aunt agree?"
Liang, standing to the side, exclaimed in surprise, "Isn't the sister-in-law of Master Yu's distant nephew satisfied? That's Master Yu, after all."
The old lady waved her hand, "Keep your voice down, you're hurting my ears."
She then turned to Shu Yu and said, "She looks down on Yu Fenglin because he is an orphan with no parents, and she also looks down on him because he only owns a blacksmith shop. She also said that he is ugly. She really has a lot to say."
Madam Liang curled her lip. "Has my standards become so high now, sister-in-law? The other party owns a blacksmith shop and is Master Yu's nephew, yet she still doesn't like him. Doesn't she even look at herself? Her family only owns a few acres of land. Does she really want to marry a rich young master?"
She was right; the old lady only just realized that Li had kept a lot of information on rich young men, and not only that, she was being picky. If it weren't for that, she wouldn't still be unable to arrange a marriage for Lanhua.
The old lady thought Yu Fenglin was a good choice, but Li thought the old lady had poor judgment. Why choose the worst one instead of the rich and powerful? Was she stupid?
The old lady was so angry she couldn't speak. She thought Li had gone mad. Didn't she see her own family's situation? Didn't she think about why those people would want her family? Weren't they after Ayu?
After hearing this, Madam Liang chuckled and said, "Mother, I'll handle this. I'll go talk to my sister-in-law."
"Are you sure you can do it?" the old woman asked doubtfully.
Madam Liang patted her chest, "Don't worry, I'll take care of it. I'll go see my sister-in-law first thing tomorrow morning."
The old lady was half-believing and half-doubting, but she didn't want to see Li Shi anymore. However, Lan Hua was her granddaughter, and she couldn't just ignore her and let Li Shi do whatever she wanted to harm her.
If Mr. Liang wants to give it a try, then let him try.
To everyone's surprise, Liang actually managed to persuade Li. The next day, she went to the blacksmith's shop to see Yu Fenglin, and only after she had a clear idea of what was going on did she go to find Li.
Li probably knew that Lan Hua had been using the excuse of repaying a debt of gratitude to deliver meals to Yu Fenglin these past two days, so she kept a close eye on her.
When Lan Hua went to work at Yi Ren Ge, she went with her.
Liang went to Yiren Pavilion to find Li. She told Li that it was good to be an orphan, because no matter how much wealth the other person had, it would all be hers.
Lan Hua didn't need to serve her in-laws after getting married, and she lived a comfortable life. So, the only people Yu Fenglin would have to be filial to in the future were his parents-in-law; it was essentially like him becoming a son-in-law.
Although those young masters came from wealthy families, in those large and powerful families, the eldest son usually inherited the family business. But the men introduced to Lan Hua were all the second or youngest sons, who were either not favored or spoiled. If Lan Hua married into such a family, she would not only have to serve a whole large family, but she would also have no say in the household and might even suffer grievances.
Yu Fenglin was different. He had a shop at home, so hiring a maid to help with housework and take care of the orchids was enough for him.
Furthermore, since this matter was introduced by Master Yu, whose family is incredibly wealthy, owning shops and houses in both the county and prefectural cities, he would undoubtedly take good care of Yu Fenglin. Even a small favor from him would be enough for the young couple to live comfortably.
Although Li didn't like Liang, some of the things Liang said really struck a chord with her.
She was interested in two things: first, her daughter could marry into the family and become the head of the household without having to serve her in-laws; second, her son-in-law would be the one to take care of her and her husband in the future.
These two points are impossible for anyone else to achieve.
After much deliberation, Madam Li still felt sorry for the orchid and agreed.
