Chapter 16: Incense

Chapter 16: Incense

Buddhism is the traditional religion of Kyushu. Bai Mo could not find the answer to its origin in history books.

After more than five thousand years of ups and downs, the ancient civilization of this land has forgotten too many things.

It's just based on online speculation and the performance of some Buddhist magicians.

In addition to its close relationship with the spiritual system, Buddhism has also produced many masters of the space system.

Every Buddhist temple is a private territory of the Buddhists, although every year places for practice are allocated to all parties and walks of life.

But they believe in fate, and how much one can gain in the temple depends entirely on oneself.

The same is true for Jing'an Stone Temple.

As soon as Bai Mo stepped over the quaint threshold and walked in, he felt the relaxation and comfort from his soul.

What caught my eye was the vigorous ginkgo tree, with its golden leaves dotting the plain blue bricks beneath my feet. A bamboo of the same color poked out a section of its upright body from behind the courtyard wall.

A quiet and peaceful place.

Jing'an Stone Temple is located in the back courtyard of Jing'an Temple. It is simple and elegant, and in front of it is a renovated normal Buddhist temple, which provides a place for people to worship Buddha and burn incense.

Bai Mo doesn't worship Buddha or read Buddhist scriptures. He can't see the uniqueness of the flowers, plants, rocks and trees in the backyard. He just thinks it has a unique charm.

The same was true for Mei Qian and Zhou Tianyuan beside him.

“Squeak~”

The door of the ancient stone temple in front of them was pushed open, and the elderly monk at the door stood like an old pine tree. He smiled at them, his eyes crystal clear, as if he could see through everything in the world.

He put his hands together and said, "Three donors, this is it. Time is precious, so I will not disturb you any longer. When the time is up, someone will tell you three donors."

Upon hearing this, Bai Mo and the other two also put their palms together in front of them and returned the greeting.

"Thank you for showing me the way, Master!"

Monk Mingzhi smiled slightly and walked out.

"Let's go in." Mei Qian glanced at Bai Mo and Zhou Tianyuan and said.

"Yeah." The two nodded and looked at the temple door which was pitch black and they couldn't see what was inside.

They walked in one after another.

As soon as he stepped into the temple, Bai Mo felt his eyes brighten. In front of him, an ancient and solemn Buddha statue sat on a high platform.

There is an incense burner in front of the Buddha statue, and next to the burner is a pile of incense in a wooden box.

Not far in front of the tripod is a cushion.

Bai Mo looked around and found that only the Buddha statue, incense burner, incense and cushion in front of him were clear.

The rest of the place remains invisible darkness.

Zhou Tianyuan and Mei Qian, who came with them, have disappeared.

Thinking of the spatial fluctuation he felt when he came in, a hint of understanding flashed in his eyes.

Then he once again turned his gaze to the small space in front of him that he could see clearly.

I looked around carefully but didn't find any wooden fish.

Bai Mo took two steps forward, came to the tripod, and took out three incense sticks from the incense box.

Light it with the candle burning next to it and insert it into the incense burner in front of you.

After all, it is an unscientific magical world, and he would rather believe it exists than not.

After doing all this, Bai Mo sat cross-legged on the futon. He stretched out his hand, took out a wooden fish from the opened space, and began to beat it.

He wanted to see what surprise was waiting for him.

“Da da da~”

A calm and clear sound rang out in the silent space. At first, Bai Mo did not feel anything unusual, but as he continued to knock.

He felt as if his spirit was tied to something and became a little heavy.

And in his invisible spiritual world, silver stardust was spinning slowly, almost as fast as his usual meditation practice.

"It is said that the Buddhist music in Jing'an Stone Temple can also enhance spiritual power and even help people break through the spiritual realm."

What the class teacher Suning said when he informed them of the training assessment more than two months ago came to mind.

Bai Mo thought that this should be the purpose of knocking the wooden fish.

Therefore, he did not stop his movements, and despite the increasing mental pressure, he kept knocking the wooden fish in his hand again and again.

“Da da da~”

The gentle voice was still ringing continuously, but Bai Mo felt that he could no longer hear clearly. The invisible pressure became stronger and sweat was pouring down his forehead.

I even felt as if my head had become someone else's wooden fish, being hit again and again.

Bai Mo didn't know how long he had been knocking, maybe a day, maybe half a day.

But he no longer had the strength to hold on, his body could no longer withstand the mental pressure, and he subconsciously stopped knocking.

Then, as the sound of the wooden fish disappeared in the space, the mental oppression also receded like the tide.

He took out his cell phone and checked the time. It was six o'clock in the evening. They had arrived at eight in the morning.

When my attention returned to myself, the feeling of hunger spread from my abdomen to my whole body.

Bai Mo took out some food such as bread and water from the space. After filling his stomach, he took a rest to relax his tense spirit.

As he finished the food in his hand, his aimless gaze fell on the incense burner.

I lit incense in the morning, but now it’s gone.

Bai Mo stood up, picked up three incense sticks again and lit them.

The incense had only been burning for a while when he smelled the unique scent and felt his tired spirit refreshed.

It's like taking a hot bath after working out.

He was originally so exhausted that he couldn't even meditate, but now he felt that his condition was recovering at a fairly fast pace. This incense could actually restore mental fatigue.

“No wonder you can practice for so long.”

Bai Mo sighed inwardly. Under normal circumstances, if he was under such tremendous pressure, he could only last four or five hours at most, but today he lasted so long.

Knowing the magical effects of this incense, Bai Mo did not waste any time. He sat cross-legged on the cushion, closed his eyes, sank his mind into the spiritual world, and entered into meditation.

Soon, he discovered that what Suning said was right. The speed of practicing here was much faster than outside.

The silver stardust that was originally rotating at a constant speed was now spinning at a high speed in his spiritual world.

Just like a water pipe was connected, the magic energy continued to grow.

Five hours later, Bai Mo opened his eyes. Because of the incense, meditation did not make him tired. Instead, his mental state had recovered, so he picked up the wooden fish again.

The knocking sound, neither fast nor slow, neither long nor short, neither light nor heavy, echoed again.

The familiar feeling of oppression emerged again along with the sound. Bai Mo said nothing and resisted silently.

The breathing gradually went from light to heavy, the body slowly went from relaxed to tense, and drops of sweat ran down the cheeks and fell to the ground.

When Bai Mo thought he couldn't hold on again, a crisp sound seemed to be heard in the air, as if something broke.

Bai Mo, who originally felt exhausted and could hardly control his body, suddenly felt that the increasing mental pressure was relieved a little.

It feels like you are holding your urine and someone is whistling beside you. When you are about to hold it back, you find that you are suddenly immune to the whistle and can hold on a little longer.

“This is the third level!”

Bai Mo made a judgment in his mind. He was not too far from the third realm to begin with, so it was not surprising that he broke through now.

The cultivation of spiritual power is difficult, even though he has a good talent in this area, he still agrees with this judgment. Therefore, Bai Mo does not want to miss such an opportunity to cultivate spiritual power.

Therefore, even after breaking through to the third realm, he still did not stop to rest and reward himself.

Since this incense of unknown origin is so useful.

Bai Mo was still prepared to light another stick of incense after he was exhausted, and then use meditation to recover.
