Chapter 166 Fifty-Eight Weeks (14)
When the suspicion that Gin was an undercover agent was uttered, even Sherry couldn't help but glance at her with a strange expression.
Karasuma Renya chuckled: "I was just kidding."
After all, the very first dream showed Gin, as a member of the organization, killing the undercover agent Rei Furuya, and it was the final battle. Gin could not possibly be an undercover agent.
Even knowing this, if the Whiskey Trio really are all undercover agents, then Gin's luck is truly bizarre, making one sigh with envy.
Rei Furuya expressed his regret, and then seriously spouted nonsense: "Actually, it's not entirely impossible. Gin being an undercover agent and killing me don't contradict each other. After all, different countries and organizations are inherently at odds. Plus, it's the final moment when the organization's destruction is already decided. Isn't it normal to find an excuse to kill others to seize the greatest benefits and suppress other organizations? Especially the FBI. My pursuit of Shuichi Akai was genuine. I'm sure you can see that, right?"
Shirley's lips twitched, her eyes turning completely lifeless.
How could Gin and Shuichi Akai be spies in the same organization?
“If you really wanted to kill Shuichi Akai, he would have been dead long ago. Alright, stop trying to bring up the Scotland topic. The most important thing now is to confirm the situation in Scotland.” Karasuma Renya’s tone was calm and unaffected. Clearly, he did not really believe that Gin was an undercover agent, and he did not even care about Shuichi Akai, whom he had previously been extremely wary of.
“Alright.” The bound blond youth suddenly laughed. “Yes, that’s right, Scotland is my accomplice. No need for interrogation, he’s the undercover agent. We were just acting all along. Let’s kill him quickly.”
Karasuma Renya finally choked.
The expression on his face slowly disappeared, and he stared intently at the blond youth with a malicious and gleeful smile: "Zero-kun, it's no use trying to use reverse proof. Even if you confess, he will still be interrogated. Are you sure you want to increase his suspicion and end up being killed?"
"Anyway, I can't escape it. Since that's the case, I won't let the guys I hate get away with it. Scots and Shuichi Akai are examples. It's just a pity that I can't get Gin." The blond youth laughed maliciously. "Whether it's a lie or the truth, once it's out and someone as suspicious and cautious as you finds out, it's pretty much the end of me. After all, once suspicion arises, the crime is already established. No matter how you explain or prove it, there will always be a knot in your heart."
Karasuma Renya bent down to meet his gaze: "I thought you would be smarter in using Scotland to get yourself out, regardless of whether he is an undercover agent or not."
"Him?" The blond youth scoffed, then forced a fake smile. "Are you kidding me? How could Scotland possibly break through all the defenses you've set up to rescue me? He might be able to get close to me, but he would never kill me. So what would I need him for? To keep him around and drive me crazy?"
"Really? You're so sure he won't kill you? It seems you're quite aware of how much Scotland likes you." Karasuma Renya narrowed her eyes, carefully scrutinizing his expression.
"I'm going to throw up." The blond youth stared at him with malice and resentful anger.
Even a clay figure has some temper, and Bourbon, even as an undercover agent, is not a good-tempered person. Having fallen into such a predicament, being manipulated by others and repeatedly provoked by people he dislikes, it's not surprising that he's erupting now.
Moreover, this personality trait of being able to drag others down with him even when he's very angry is indeed very much in line with Bourbon's approach.
But is Bourbon really his true self?
While Rei Furuya might have developed a similar personality as a child, he eventually became a police officer. However, not all police officers have good character and personality. He genuinely never suspected that Bourbon was actually an undercover police officer...
They fell silent, and the atmosphere grew increasingly tense and dangerous as the silence deepened. Shirley didn't even dare to tap the keyboard to make a sound.
"So, you don't want to see Scotland?" Karasuma Renya spoke first.
"Why do you think I would want Scotland to see me like this?" The blond youth asked expressionlessly, but a hint of shame, anger, and hatred flashed in his eyes after he finished speaking.
Karasuma Renya: "..."
Sherry: "..."
Are the rumors about Scotland and Bourbon true?!
“I’d even rather see Gin and Shuichi Akai,” the blond youth said, suppressing his nausea.
“It’s not impossible.” Karasuma Renya laughed, and the atmosphere instantly returned to ease.
“But Scotland would be heartbroken if he heard that,” he said. “Even if he were arrested, imprisoned, interrogated, and threatened with death, he would still keep asking about your whereabouts, worrying more about your situation than his own safety…”
What?
Hypnosis and suggestion were instantly shaken.
Have they already... resorted to torture and interrogation?
“Scott is a tough nut to crack, and a reckless madman.” Karasuma Renya didn’t miss a single detail of his behavior, and slowly said, “Do you know what he said in the end?”
"What?" Furuya Rei asked, his heart churning with turmoil, yet his outward performance was flawless.
His mind and body, his emotions and reason, were almost completely torn apart at this moment, and his balance was in grave danger.
"He questioned me about whether I liked you, whether I really wanted to steal you away from him and keep you as a mistress," Karasuma Renya sighed.
Jianggu Ling: "..."
Rei Furuya's expression truly cracked at that moment.
But his reason quickly returned, and he flawlessly displayed an expression of rage, disgust, and chilling murderous intent.
Sherry: "???"
The 17-year-old girl with brown hair looked like she'd been struck by lightning, her mouth slightly agape, completely dumbfounded.
Karasuma Renya remained calm. After all, he had lived for so long and had seen all sorts of things. Moreover, he already knew about the Scottish and Bourbon affair. He was just a little surprised and doubtful about the extent of the Scottish madness.
“He completely disregarded my authority as the organization’s boss.” Karasuma Renya was very displeased. “Although I knew before that Scotland was prone to losing control when it came to you, I never expected him to go this far. Even if he’s not an undercover agent, he must be punished properly to let him know his true identity.”
"Why not just kill him?" The blond youth, even angrier than him, had a murderous look on his face.
"Do you really want to kill him?" Karasuma Renya smiled enigmatically.
The blond youth met his gaze coldly, his eyes showing no hesitation or wavering.
“Alright, keeping such an uncontrollable Scotland around is indeed troublesome.” Karasuma Renya’s smile deepened. “Then I’ll have someone bring him here so you can kill him yourself?”
The blond youth was somewhat tempted, but ultimately refused, gritting his teeth: "No, I'd rather die than let him see me like this!"
This is a matter of male dignity.
Karasuma Renya could understand, and her suspicions lessened somewhat. She smiled, turned around, picked up a controller, and said, "Okay, don't let him come over. After all, I'm also worried that he's your accomplice and might prepare some methods that I can't detect, or do something like kill you before he dies so you can successfully start a new cycle. After all, you police officers love to play this self-sacrifice tactic, and I'm already tired of it."
The screen flickered, then transformed into a dimly lit interrogation room, where a disheveled, black-haired young man was strapped to a chair.
"Scotland, do you know you're wrong?" Karasuma Renya pressed the microphone on the call.
The black-haired youth, who had been hanging his head, suddenly raised it, revealing a pale face. His upturned blue eyes were incredibly cold, dark and filled with a terrifying obsession, like a black panther lurking in the darkness, ready to bite someone's throat.
“Boss, I need to see Bourbon,” he said, his voice hoarse.
Karasuma Renya didn't seem to turn his head to look, but he was actually staring intently at the expression of the blond youth under the high-definition surveillance camera on his phone.
“But Bourbon said he doesn’t want to see you,” Karasuma Renya said slowly. “He even wants to kill you.”
“Impossible,” Scotland said without hesitation. “Bourbon won’t let me die.”
"Because you have something on him? Killing you would reveal his important information?" Karasuma Renya smirked. "For example... Bourbon is actually an undercover police officer."
Scotland's pupils contracted, and although he quickly composed himself, the camera successfully captured that moment of shock and anxiety.
"What did you say? Bourbon is an undercover agent? How is that possible? No one can be an undercover agent except Bourbon!" he immediately said firmly.
Karasuma Renya was no longer satisfied with just watching the surveillance video; he turned around and looked at the blond youth's expression with great interest.
He was looking at Scotland on the screen on the wall, his face expressionless, revealing nothing about his expression.
But the fact that his expression is not visible indicates that his emotions are at their most intense right now, and he is even trying to hide all his emotions by not wanting to reveal any of them.
“Scotland, do you know how the organization treats traitors?” Karasuma Renya said to Furuya Rei. “You discovered Bourbon’s undercover identity a long time ago, and you knew that he was an undercover agent for the Public Security Bureau, but you concealed it from the organization because of your own selfish desires, causing countless losses to the organization, and you still don’t want to admit it now. That is enough to make you die hundreds of times over.”
"I'm sorry, I can die, but before I die, can I see Bourbon one last time?" Scotland said earnestly, looking at the camera.
Karasuma Renya wasn't looking at the camera; he was looking at Furuya Rei.
Rei Furuya wasn't watching Renya Karasuma; he was watching Scotland on the screen.
“But Bourbon doesn’t want to see you, right, Zero?” Karasuma Renya reached out and stroked the blond youth’s smooth, short hair.
“Yes.” Rei Furuya looked away. “Even seeing him through the security cameras annoys me.”
“Bourbon!” Scotland’s voice suddenly became agitated. “Why?! Didn’t you say you would kill me with your own hands? Didn’t you say you wouldn’t let anyone kill me before you?!”
"I know! Is your current condition really bad?! Did the BOSS do something to you? Is that why you don't want me to see you like this?!" He was almost frantic by the end, struggling so hard that the chains binding him made a piercing sound.
Karasuma Renya turned his head and glanced at him, once again surprised that he was so crazy about Bourbon, even though he was usually such a calm and deep person.
When he turned back again, he found that the blond youth's face was as black as could be.
“Kill him.” Those cold, angry purple eyes turned to meet his gaze.
Karasuma Renya looked at him, a satisfied smile gradually appearing on his face. He placed the remote control in his hand next to the hand that was bound to the operating table, and gently placed his index finger on one of the buttons.
"Okay, as long as you press this button, Scotland will die immediately."
He didn't lower his voice; it was loud enough for everyone to hear, and his tone was seductive.
"As soon as you press this button, that chair will inject Scotland with a new poison developed by the organization. He will die in excruciating pain as his internal organs melt, bleeding from all seven orifices. That should be enough to vent your anger, right?"
The voice, like a sinister and terrifying cold venomous snake, lingered in everyone's ears, as if it could bite its prey to death with its sharp fangs at any moment.
Shirley's body trembled uncontrollably, a chill running from her feet to the top of her head, yet she couldn't move an inch. She could only let her gaze frantically dart back and forth between Scotland and Bologna, countless thoughts racing and chaotically popping into her mind.
What...what should we do? Is Scotland really not an undercover agent? But my sister treats Scotland very well, and she seems happy to see Scotland and Bourbon working together. Scotland and Bourbon must really be good partners, right? Just like the rivalry between Sakura and Bourbon was an act, the discord between Scotland and Bourbon must also be faked, right? Otherwise, it's really strange that Scotland is in such a hurry to see Bourbon. If Scotland really is Bourbon's partner, if he's killed by Bourbon like this, Bourbon might have a mental breakdown and expose more information... Even if...even if Scotland isn't an undercover agent, it's really...unbelievable that Scotland, who is so devoted to protecting Bourbon and would give his life for him, has to die like this...
In the suffocating silence, the blond youth suddenly laughed.
“That’s great, thank you sir, it lets me kill that guy myself.” He said, pressing the button and turning to look at the screen with anticipation.
"Smack!"
The lights in the dimly lit interrogation room suddenly blazed on, so bright that the stunned black-haired youth instinctively closed his eyes.
Shirley couldn't help but look away, not wanting to see him struggling and dying in agony from the poison.
However, three seconds passed, and there was still no movement.
"Sir, are you joking again?" The blond youth suddenly sneered, his anger barely contained.
Shirley paused for a moment, then turned to look at the screen and found that apart from the lights being turned on, nothing had happened in Scotland, and Scotland itself looked completely bewildered.
"It was just a small test. Congratulations on successfully passing the test." Karasuma Renya also laughed. "After all, Scotland has sacrificed so much for the organization. He was just temporarily blinded by emotions. Why would I kill him directly? This was just a little game to test whether you were really police comrades."
The blond youth sneered again: "Isn't it because controlling that guy would be easy after I captured him? Even if you don't trust him in terms of intelligence, his other abilities would make it hard for you, as the BOSS, to give him up, right? After all, right now, besides Gin, he's the only one in the organization who can rival Shuichi Akai in sniping skills."
"Zero-kun is so smart." Karasuma Renya happily patted his head again.
"Wait, Boss, I'll do anything, but please let me see Bourbon—"
Karasuma Renya immediately took back the remote control and turned off the surveillance video, and the Scottish voice came to an abrupt halt.
Rei Furuya finally breathed a sigh of relief. Although he had controlled his body's reaction, his mind was in complete chaos. His vision was filled with static, like a broken machine, and he was experiencing tinnitus, like a hallucination.
You made the right bet.
He dared not think about the consequences of betting wrong, but he could no longer control his thoughts.
While perfectly handling Karasuma Renya's subsequent probing, Furuya Rei thought to himself, "It's over. This time it's really over. The current safety is only temporary."
He will definitely dream of Hiro during the fourth experiment tonight.
Even if he wanted to hypnotize himself to forget all his memories of Hiro, it would be too late. His knowledge of hypnosis was not yet at that level, and he could not achieve a level of perfection that would go undetected.
Rei Furuya closed his eyes and frantically tried to figure out what to do.
He even glanced at Shirley again when she was around.
But when faced with his pleading gaze, the brown-haired girl's eyelashes trembled violently. She lowered her eyes to hide her panic and apology, and then slowly looked away.
Even knowing that Rei Furuya might actually be able to reincarnate, she couldn't bear the possibility that her sister might suffer cruel torture and be murdered.
Rei Furuya was well aware of this, but he was simply unwilling to accept it.
Things kept getting worse, as if the world was telling you that there was no worst, only worse.
Rei Furuya took a deep breath, his gaze towards the dream chair gradually darkening.
Dream Chair?
No, it should be called a nightmare.
During the fourth Nightmare Experiment, the organization's boss revealed the fourth objective.
“I don’t want to see real memories this time, Zero. Show me your dream-fabricating abilities this time.” He lowered his voice and hypnotized him. “As Bourbon, you should know how terrifying the organization’s interrogation methods are, right? If you continue like this, you will expose your comrades sooner or later, especially the comrades who are currently infiltrating the organization. What they will experience then will be far more terrifying than Scotland today, right?”
"But this time it can't be like the first experiment, where it suddenly cuts off just when you're almost able to see clearly who's challenging you to a fight under the cherry blossom tree at the police academy. Their faces and their expressions can't be blurry."
"They died because of you. You must remember everyone's faces, watch carefully how they died, and see what kind of expressions they made when they were exposed, tortured, and killed by the organization because of you. You must remember this."
"Good boy, I hope you have a nightmare."
