Chapter 26: Get Ready to Eat Something Hard

Zhuangzhuang was still young. He had been busy in the fields with Xiaoguo for an entire afternoon and had already closed his eyes due to exhaustion. Xiaoguo talked to Zhuangzhuang while looking up at the moon in the sky. The moon had already risen, while the sun had set long ago. The moon in ancient times was so big and bright. Xiaoguo, who lived in modern times, could not see such a beautiful moon at all. The moon had long been covered by tall buildings. After the end of the world, the moon was even more invisible. The sky was gray and gloomy, and it was impossible to tell the difference between day and night.

Thinking of the end of the world, Xiaoguo's eyes dimmed. It was good to leave there. Coming here at least proved that he was still alive and could do many things. He must live well here. At this time, Xiaoguo felt his shoulders sink. Looking towards his shoulders, he found that it was a strong little head resting on his shoulders. The little mouth was smacking, and the eyes were closed. Xiaoguo turned his head with amusement and looked at the door of his home not far away. He should live a good life while he was still strong.

When they got home, Xiaoguo put Zhuangzhuang down, covered him with a quilt, lit a candle, and went to the kitchen with another candle to prepare dinner. After being tired for a long time, his stomach was rumbling. Xiaoguo was ready to have a stronger meal after working for a long day.

I went to the space to look for bones in the refrigerator, and actually found a bag of large bones. Xiaoguo happily took them out and prepared to stew the bones with sauce, steam rice, and make a thick cabbage soup.

First blanch the pork ribs, leaving two for the cabbage soup, and stir-fry the rest in the fried sugar color. After coloring, add the spices you packed yourself, then add a spoonful of soybean paste, then cover the pot and simmer aside. Put the two pork ribs in another casserole and simmer with hot water.

The smell of the sauce wafted out, and because of the addition of spices, the smell was very overbearing, even waking up Zhuangzhuang who was sleeping. Xiaoguo was not afraid of attracting people over, because his home was far away from the village, at the very edge of the village, and the nearest Mrs. Yang's family was still some distance away from him.

Zhuangzhuang followed the fragrance to the kitchen in a daze. He stood at the door and looked inside, calling "mom" in a baby voice. Xiaoguo held Zhuangzhuang in his arms and sat in front of the stove. They warmed themselves by the fire while Zhuangzhuang snuggled comfortably in Xiaoguo's arms.

"We'll have dinner soon. Zhuangzhuang, wake up first." Xiaoguo rubbed Zhuangzhuang's well-nourished face and said softly.

Zhuangzhuang nodded, rubbing his eyes with his hands and asked softly with sleepiness, "Mom, what shall we eat?"

"We eat big bones and rice."

Zhuangzhuang was no longer sleepy when he heard it. It was big bone rice.

The mother and son sat and talked in front of the stove. After a while, the rice was cooked. Zhuangzhuang was already energetic and went into the house with the rice bowl. Xiaoguo walked behind him carrying the big bone, and the mother had to remind him not to fall.

Xiaoguo picked up a big bone for Zhuangzhuang. Zhuangzhuang blew on it, and when it was no longer hot, he took a tentative bite. The sauce was already sticky and hanging on the meat. The meat was already off the bone. As soon as he took a bite, the sauce went into his mouth. Zhuangzhuang ate it with relish. "Mom, your cooking is so delicious." Zhuangzhuang said incoherently.

Xiaoguo was amused and happy. She couldn't stop feeling delighted. She took a spoon and scooped a bowl of soup to cool it beside Zhuangzhuang. "If it tastes good, eat more."

The mother and son even finished up the meat soup, and finally each of them had a bowl of cabbage soup. After taking the last sip, they couldn't help but let out a sigh of satisfaction.

After drinking the hot soup, they felt warm all over. While they were still warm, they washed the dishes. After dinner, they went to put some grass for the cows and played with the calf for a while. Zhuangzhuang yawned and Xiaoguo took him back to the house. Zhuangzhuang wanted to listen to a story at first, but Xiaoguo fell asleep halfway through the story. Xiaoguo tucked in the quilt for Zhuangzhuang and fell asleep beside him soon after.
