Chapter 6 Pork and Scallion Wontons

At dawn the next day, Xiaoguo heard the crowing of chickens outside. She opened her eyes and saw that Zhuangzhuang was still sleeping soundly. She got up quietly, closed the door, walked to the kitchen, and prepared breakfast.

Take out the pork from last night and chop it into minced meat. After searching the kitchen, I couldn't find any scallions, ginger, or seasonings. Xiaoguo went into the ring again, took out scallions, ginger, and various seasonings from the kitchen, and put them away in the ring. Then, Xiaoguo sorted the bottles and jars and started to chop the ginger and scallions into minced meat. He put them into a basin, added some salt and MSG, light soy sauce, thirteen spices, and poured the soaked scallions and ginger water into the basin in batches. He stirred vigorously in one direction, and finally sprinkled some fried pepper oil on it to enhance the flavor and lock in the moisture. The meat filling that came out was clumping and juicy.

After preparing the filling, he prepared to knead the dough. After the dough was kneaded into a smooth dough, Xiaoguo looked at the sun rising slowly outside, added water and lit the fire.

On the other side, Zhuangzhuang opened his eyes but didn't see his mother. He ran out of bed to look for her. Following the sound, he came to the kitchen and looked at the busy Xiaoguo and shouted, "Mom!"

Xiaoguo turned around when she heard the voice and saw Zhuangzhuang getting up. "You got up very early. Mom said she would call you when the meal is ready."

Zhuangzhuang thought his mother had gone out alone to look for food again, but when he saw her making breakfast, he was relieved, "Mom, I'll go out with you after dinner."

"Go out?" Xiao Guo remembered that she still wanted to find something to eat. "No need. Mom has already found something to eat. We don't have to go out to look for it anymore."

"Really?" Zhuangzhuang looked at Xiaoguo with a bright look, and Xiaoguo smiled.

"Of course it's true."

"That's great. I'll help mom light the fire." After saying that, he moved the pony and sat in front of the stove.

Xiao Guo agreed, "Then you boil some water, and when it boils, we'll cook the wontons."

Zhuangzhuang then looked up at the table, "Wontons? Really wontons!?"

Zhuangzhuang looked at the small wontons on the table with a bright gaze. He hadn't eaten wontons for a long time. He added handfuls of firewood with great energy.

The water boiled and Xiaoguo had finished wrapping the wontons. She asked Zhuangzhuang to stand further away to avoid getting burned. As soon as Zhuangzhuang left the stove, Xiaoguo started putting the wontons in. After putting them in the pot, Xiaoguo quickly stirred them to prevent them from sticking.

The water started to boil and the aroma wafted out. Zhuangzhuang was so greedy that his mouth was watering. He asked his mother if she was done. Xiaoguo saw that Zhuangzhuang was about to fall into the pot, so she said to him, "Help mother take out the dishes and chopsticks."

Zhuangzhuang turned around and went somewhere, "Mom, is it cooked?"

Xiaoguo nodded and said, "Serve the rice."

There were two bowls, one big and one small. Xiaoguo put some seaweed and shrimps at the bottom of the bowl and added a few drops of sesame oil. Zhuangzhuang looked at the bottles and jars he had never seen before and was curious about what they were. Before he could ask, he was attracted by the aroma of wontons coming out of the pot. Two bowls of hot wontons came out of the pot. Zhuangzhuang rushed to help his mother hold the bowls, but Xiaoguo couldn't beat him, so she let him hold the chopsticks. The two came to the dining table, and Zhuangzhuang blew on the wontons twice while they were still hot and couldn't wait to stuff them into his mouth.

Seeing this, Xiaoguo quickly said to Zhuangzhuang, "Eat slowly, don't burn yourself."

Zhuangzhuang nodded while chewing wontons, and his eyes were narrowed into slits due to his joy.

Xiaoguo was also very happy. Seeing Zhuangzhuang eating happily, she also felt her appetite whetted. She followed Zhuangzhuang and ate two bowls of soup, finishing all the soup in the pot.

After the meal, the two of them collapsed on their chairs again, their stomachs were round from overwork. Xiaoguo was afraid that it would damage Zhuangzhuang, so she rubbed his stomach, and he burped three or four times, and then he felt that his food had been digested.

Zhuangzhuang didn't let his mother wash the dishes, and he took the dishes and went to the kitchen. Xiaoguo followed him all the way to the kitchen. Zhuangzhuang washed the dishes, but the stove was too high and he couldn't reach it yet, so Xiaoguo had to wash it. He then promised Xiaoguo, "Mom, I will grow up quickly and take care of you."

Xiao Guo was moved again. She was a solo mother and had planned not to find a boyfriend before. She would do IVF when she was old enough. Now, she could get such a caring eldest son for free, who is not even like her husband. She once again thanked the deceased original owner and her dead husband in her heart.
