Chapter 9: Growing Food

Without waiting for Xiaoguo to refuse, Yang pushed Xiaoguo into her arms and ran away with the basket, waving at her as she ran, "Go back, go back."

Xiaoguo accepted the gift and looked at Aunt Yang's receding figure with emotion. She promised in her heart that she would repay her in the future. Xiaoguo turned around and just closed the door when Zhuangzhuang ran out of the house, "Mom, is that Aunt Yang? Did you bring us food again?"

"Yes, he brought us a lot of things."

A long time ago, Yang Dasao's family had no food to eat, and it was the old couple of the Jiang family who supported them every day so that they could survive. The Yang family always remembered their kindness, so after Jiang Shanhe and his mother passed away, Xiaoguo and Zhuangzhuang were the only ones left. The Yang family often supported the mother and son even when they were not well off. Xiaoguo remembered this kindness and would definitely repay them when she had the chance.

Xiaoguo and Zhuangzhuang took the food to the kitchen. Zhuangzhuang put down the rice bag and felt something blocking him. "Mom, what is this?"

Zhuangzhuang handed over a small bag. Xiaoguo took it and opened it. It turned out to be copper coins. After counting, there were 30 coins. Xiaoguo thought that it was the money that Yang Dasao had just handed over. This...

Xiaoguo looked at the copper plate in her hand with emotion and was speechless for a moment. Ever since Jiang Shanhe died on the battlefield, the Jiang family had no money deposited into the account, and Jiang's mother's death had also used up the last bit of money. Sister Yang must have known all this, so she secretly put it in the dish and sent it to her.

Xiaoguo thought about sending the money back, but then he changed his mind and realized that he had no money at all. If he wanted to make money, he had to have some capital. Xiaoguo kept the thirty cents and would definitely send back double the amount later.

After putting the money away, Xiaoguo took Zhuangzhuang out, wanting to go to the fields to see if there were any seeds to sow.

When they arrived at the field, they saw some people were already sowing seeds. When they saw Xiaoguo and his companions, they all greeted them. Xiaoguo responded one by one. When they arrived in front of their own field, the family next door said to Xiaoguo that it would rain the day after tomorrow, so they asked Xiaoguo to plant seeds quickly so that the seeds would be soaked through when it rained.

Xiaoguo thought so too. She only had two batches of seeds at home, so it would be easy to plant. It was also early now, so she discussed with Zhuangzhuang whether they should plant them first. Zhuangzhuang said he wanted to help his mother plant them.

The two of them hurried home to get a hoe. Xiaoguo hoeed in the front while Zhuangzhuang helped sow the seeds at the back.

Xiaoguo quickened the speed of digging the pit and let Zhuangzhuang sow the seeds slowly. When Xiaoguo finished digging a piece of land, he took the seeds from Zhuangzhuang's hand and asked Zhuangzhuang to sit at the edge of the field and not run too far.

In this way, Xiaoguo sowed seeds while paying attention to Zhuangzhuang. Seeing the child sitting obediently in the field waiting for him, Xiaoguo felt relieved and quickened his movements.

Maybe it was because the healing power in the end times followed his soul, Xiaoguo didn't feel tired even though he kept working. By the time he had sown all the seeds, they were exactly the size of a field.

Because the Jiang family was an outsider, they were allocated a piece of land of this size. It wasn't very big, but it was very small in this area. Xiaoguo thought it was just right, as the food from this area would be just enough for them and their son to eat.

Xiaoguo rubbed his waist and stood up, picked up the hoe and walked towards Zhuangzhuang, "Let's go home, Zhuangzhuang."

Zhuangzhuang stood up and held his mother's hand. Xiaoguo looked at the sun, lowered his head and asked Zhuangzhuang, "Are you hungry?"

I have been working so hard that I don't notice any time. Now it seems that the sun has risen high in the sky. It should be noon now. Looking around, people in the fields have gone home. They should go back to have lunch.

Zhuangzhuang shook his head obediently, "I'm not hungry, Mom, you've worked hard, I'll give you a back massage when we get home."

Zhuangzhuang's sweet words made Xiaoguo's heart blossom. What a warm-hearted boy! "When mom hears our Zhuangzhuang's words, she feels so much strength that she doesn't feel tired at all."

Zhuangzhuang listened to what Xiaoguo said with blushing face, thinking happily, Mom is so nice.

Just after Zhuangzhuang said he was not hungry, his stomach growled. Little Zhuangzhuang immediately covered his stomach and smiled shyly at Xiaoguo. His face, which had just turned red, became even redder. Xiaoguo gently pinched Zhuangzhuang's nose. What Zhuangzhuang didn't tell his mother was that his stomach had actually been growling for a long time.

The mother and son walked back home, drew a basin of water from the well, washed their hands first, and then called Zhuangzhuang to come out and wash their hands. While Zhuangzhuang was washing his hands, Xiaoguo came to the kitchen again, thinking about what to eat for lunch.
